Anyone know what time to expect it today? Is Boris doing it today?

I see the BBC have a Coronavirus daily special 4.10-5.40pm today so presuming it will be then?

Do you think we'll have any announcements today? I'm hoping there are more lockdown measures announced. I think it's time to shut non essential shops and enforce social distancing.

He can ask but it is not legally binding. That is the stupid bit because some of those asked to stay at home will still be going out.

PleaseStopCrying · 22/03/2020 17:47

Unless he was bluffing..

I sadly don't think he was, we are totally fucked. He has no intention of putting stricker measures in place. Angry

Redrover87 · 22/03/2020 17:48

Unbelievable, they don’t give a fuck do they

nellodee · 22/03/2020 17:48

@middleager that's it exactly.

Xenia · 22/03/2020 17:48

This is the list of people - the 1.5m - who ought not to go out. It does not include the obese or the old although they as everyone should social distance and only go out for work where their work cannot be done at home etc.

HouseElfy · 22/03/2020 17:48

This is all a softly softly approach so no one kicks off when lockdown is eventually implemented.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 17:48

Whitty doesn't strike me as a man to refuse to put his face to something but require his subordinate to front it. Also doubt a subordinate at such a senior level would thwart their senior in process of revolt.

SouthWestmom · 22/03/2020 17:49

She seems desperate to say it as it is and he's like Disney dad

Mary1935 · 22/03/2020 17:49

The London major said this morning they are pushing through emergency powers this week.
I think it’s for restrictions on the public going forward.
We are at a loss why they he is not being stronger in his points.
Let’s keep doing what we are doing - social distancing. Sadly we have absolutely no control over any one else. Is so frustrating and dangerous what we are doing.

highlandcoo · 22/03/2020 17:49

The journalists are asking again and again about stricter measures but they keep dodging dealing with it. No help at all .. useless and pathetic.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 17:49

This is all a softly softly approach so no one kicks off when lockdown is eventually implemented.

But for how long can they keep that up? Surely today they should have announced something stronger.

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 22/03/2020 17:50

If you look at the journalists at the front they are well spaced out. I assume BJ and the others have all been tested and so know they pose no risk. I may be a lone voice in the dark but I think the government are doing a decent job in very difficult times.

RedDiamond · 22/03/2020 17:50

Wonder how many teenagers are watching this?

Mockerswithnoknockers · 22/03/2020 17:50

He's not Winston Churchill. He's Ramsay MacDonald staring uncomprehendingly at the Crash of 29: 'Unfortunately, there are some people who are now human scrap.'

(Yes: A Labour PM really did say that.)

PleaseStopCrying · 22/03/2020 17:50

Did she really just say large gatherings were better than smaller ones. All people are going to take from that is that large gathering are ok. [head desk]

Lifesavesocialdistance · 22/03/2020 17:50

I didn't see it all after his speech.

Are we back to herd immunity? I just heard about protecting vulnerable? I assume enough people in community will now have it, after Liverpool game, flights in and out, Cheltenham etc and work and schools being open to occupy NHS for months without the vulnerable on top.. That's how I saw it?

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 22/03/2020 17:50

I think I'll be in the 1.5 million by virtue of one diagnosis but I am in fact fitter than average for my age.

I imagine I'll not get ventilated though as I don't look good on paper.

I wonder if the list is a handy quick guide of who not to ventilate,

Like the Mikado song.

sociallydistained · 22/03/2020 17:51

Can't believe she just said that...I know that's not what she meant but that'll be what is taken from it. Wow

nellodee · 22/03/2020 17:51

2 weeks ago Italy locked down. Every day we delay makes our outcome worse than their's.

BarbedBloom · 22/03/2020 17:51

Oh my god. She is useless

SouthWestmom · 22/03/2020 17:51

So you can opt out of shielding?

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 17:52

Did she really just say large gatherings were better than smaller ones. All people are going to take from that is that large gathering are ok. [head desk]

Yes pretty much

OP posts:
highlandcoo · 22/03/2020 17:52

Don't thank us for social distancing!!

Enforce it Angry

RedDiamond · 22/03/2020 17:52

Yes you can. It is advisory only.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 17:52

So you can opt out of shielding?

Yes but they are asking you very strongly to listen to them..
