self isolation is different to social distancing

self isolation you enter when you or anyone in your family develop a cough or a high temp or you/family member are in a vulnerable group

social distancing is what we should be doing as a minimum all the time. ie. minimise going out.

All those people self-isolating at the drop of a hat you are causing the problem. For self isolation, you WILL need to stockpile food etc because you want to eliminate going out for 14 days.... But if we all self-isolate then we are all going to need to stockpile which is what everyone has just done last week. ie. why the government didn't mandate it in the first place... cause of crazy people.

We are in week 2 of this and we need to have the stamina to get through to month 18. You are not going to do this by self isolating for all that time.

So, people self-isolating and therefore stockpiling are annoying me... AIBU?

Lockdowns work by having the police and army patrolling the streets, by fining and arresting people that break the law, and that is why I suspect Boris is drafting in at least 20,000 troops.

Everyone will not end up in prison, because most people are petrified of catching and do not want to be out in the first place!!

It seems to be only you that feels we should all be doing a little less social distancing and a bit more mixing.

I think people have departed this thread because you have not shown a shred of comprehension, and it is people like you that scare the shit out of us. How are we going to get through such an enormous crisis of this magnitude with people like you feeling 'annoyed' that we are isolating.

Show some compassion, many people are dying and you are actively making things worse.

Everyone should be self isolating unless they are going tow to

ChequerBoard · 22/03/2020 16:47

I'd rather people self isolated that ignored all the advice and carried on like they were fucking immortal.

I live in a pretty village, its usually very busy on Mothering Sunday with people bring their Mums for a lively pub lunch and a nice little walk/poke about the antique shop. I'm stunned by the number of families I've seen still coming here today. Obviously the pubs are shut but they are still here, cluttering up the place.

Fuck off home!

EggysMom · 22/03/2020 17:02

My family are currently social distance-ing.

In anticipation of the inevitable morning when we wake up and one of us has the temperature or the cough, we have gathered sufficient food to enable us to go into isolation for 14 days.

Isn't that what others have done?

The government needs to introduce rationing
Heard Jeremy Corben today proud that he knew someone who will only allow one of each item to be sold. If you have a family how long will this do you? Surely that puts you back at the shop in a shorter amt of time? I can see why the panic buying happened, the shelves were so empty (in Ireland and thank God haven't seen this yet but can't get soap or cleaners anywhere which is worrying me, we only had 2 soaps at home and 1 cleaning spray so soon we're going to have a problem).

We’re a family of 5. If we can only buy one item of something at a time, it means at least twice the number of trips to the shop. More unnecessary contact.

No. In times like these it just means you buy something else. So instead of 2 x 1 item toy buy 1 x 2 item.

We are partially self isolating (if that's a thing!). That means we are both not going to work and our whole family are not leaving the house unless it is necessary, ie one of us going out every few days to get food. Our children have not been beyond our property in over a week, I'm not sure how that would be annoying to you? We are not stock piling etc, but just buying the necessities for our family.

It doesn't work like that eg for milk it is one of any sort of milk so for that item alone you will need to make extra trips. You can't just buy a bottle of semiskimmed and a bottle of full fat. If you have four teenagers at home you are probably going to have to make daily trips to keep up as you are only allowed go buy the same amount as a single man living on his own.

DICarter1 · 23/03/2020 07:43

We’re not ill but self isolating to a degree. Husband is getting our food. One child went for a walk in a field with me the other day but aside from that we’re not going out. Might go for a drive in the car to break up the boredom but we don’t intend to go out unless necessary.

Devlesko · 23/03/2020 11:18

Hey, without reason? There's a killer flu epidemic, what reason do you want?
People isolating aren't the ones queuing in shops and panic buying, they are you kow, isolating.
