So back from uni
19 years old ,out at the pub last night ,today he tells me ,he’s still planning on playing footy with his old school mates ,no intention of staying in.

I’ve walked the dog this morning,the park I walked past was full of families all laughing and kids running round ,I counted 20 kids in the park on swings and slides
Walking the dog ,the whole world seemed to be out ,I never walk past that many people Usually on a Saturday morning.

Does he have grandparents?
If people don't do this voluntarily, they will be forced to do it on a stricter lock down.
And that will be his fault.

My 18 year old is applying for a temp job in Tesco- you know, to become a key worker, a hero. I don’t understand the vilification of the young just because they are going out to meet up in the fresh air.

Some of the young people like my Dr son are in the hospitals now fighting for the lives of people because other young people will not give up their right to go out and socialise.

I don’t know how to make him see sense ,
If he needs exercise he walk one the dogs ,we have a few all needing a walk .i manage to walk them and keep away from people by changing directions
But playing footy ,still after all that’s in the media
Perhaps he would be better going back to uni ,as we are a big family and the rest of us are doing our bit and staying in

My daughter living in Madrid is just starting her 2nd week of lockdown in her apartment. The Government has just decided it will last for a month.
She can go to the shop for food on her own, and to do household chores like putting out recycling.
Otherwise you stay inside, and if stopped out in the street without a good reason there are very heavy fines.
We might very easily go the same route if things get worse.

Groups of people out here too (I was out on a dog walk, expecting empty moors). Golfers and whole families with grandparents loudly bitching about things being closed. Things will stay closed a lot longer because of them it's beyond stupid!

I'm sorry but even in hard times like this a temp job stacking shelves does not make one a hero.

I don’t understand the vilification of the young just because they are going out to meet up in the fresh air.

Maybe you need to read a bit more about both social distancing and the severity of the virus.

FWIW the small local football leagues are still playing (well, they are round here) & although it is a contact sport they’re not on top of each other all the time. Better than being in a pub.

But we will get lockdown. Sooner rather than later I hope. Italy’s started on 10th - we need it NOW

Tell him he can't live in the family home if he's not going to follow the gov. advice. He's endangering you all, and other people too.

Actually, it bloody well does.

They will be exposed to all kinds of viruses from dickheads that aren't isolating, without the aid of face masks or hand gel.

When you go shopping, you need food on the shelves and a person to take your money, or even open the damn shop.

The people doing this are at risk of catching the viruses that the general public bring in, in the masses.

If you don't think that's heroic, then I assume you are 100% self sufficient and don't need shops at all?

Ungrateful.

We do need it now, there are many many people of all ages who are simply ignoring advice to stay home. One of my Facebook friends was out at a ‘last hurrah’ party in a pub last night and she’s a bloody midwife who you’d think would know better. My elderly neighbour was out at the hairdressers this morning because she said her ‘roots were desperate’. I despair, I really do.

I'm not ungrateful at all. My DD has been working long hard days in retail this week.

But come on, she is not a hero. She is someone doing her job. Yes she is at risk, and both myself and her dad are high risk, but she isn't a hero.

An 18 year old as described above who has seen a JOB opportunity and gone for it is not a hero. They are a person getting and doing a job.

I'm not saying these people are not vital, but they are not heros. Let's save that honour for the people who truly deserve it.

Really? Do you not watch the news, or the announcements, or read the information that's on here and everywhere else? Have you really not seen any film of the appalling experiences in China and Italy?

I despair that so many people seem incapable of understanding simple and straightforward instructions.

Shelf stackers are not normally heroic... To be working under the conditions at the moment they certainly are. I feel sorry for your daughter having a mom like you...

*Like I said, both my husband and I are high risk. He is disabled and ticks a few of the risk boxes. I have a lung condition that means this virus could actually end me. My DD has been working long days in retail. She is not a hero. People are not considered Sherpa for simply going to work which is what a huge number of people are still doing.

I am actually. I just think too many people are up their own arses here. Working in Tesco as a temp doesn't make anyone a hero. The doctors and nurses that are face to face with this every minute of their working day, they are our hero's.

No need to apologise but it does. So does being a postman or working in the post office delivery office.

Football and other sport is probably OK as long as they don't all jump in the bath together (if they still do that), or socialise afterwards but go straight home, shower and put their clothes in the washing machine so as not to possibly contaminate others at home. Exercise builds up the immune system and, as everyone says, young people are more resistant.

Please don't. My daughter has been loved and supported every minute of her 18 years by me. I have told her every single day how much I appreciate what she is doing, both at work and because she is doing the family shopping too. I have made sure she has food when she comes home, food to take to work and every night she walks through the door her dad had run her a hot bath. Her work clothes are washed and ironed for her and I have been paying her petrol as a thank you for everything she had done.

She doesn't need your pity.

Interestingly, I am the one who has been called 'not nice'

I'm not saying they are not appreciated. I have said they are VITAL. Hero is another level which I just don't extend to shelf stackers. That's all.
