We are going to be like Italy

Just like Italy we will be in a few weeks. The park is packed with children!! Weddings are still going ahead with hundreds of people, no one cares. There will be high risk people at the weddings because their mentality is we are not on lockdown so we will continue as normal.

Unfortunately I know a lot of people who are not taking the virus seriously and mock those that do, really pissing me off

My friend has been to the park today. Not a nature park either.. an actual play park with swings etc. I'm told it was busy as usual and we're in the south east. Do people not realise that the schools have shut for a reason!

TitsInAbsentia · 21/03/2020 15:20

Went out for a walk as hadn't left the house for a few days, park is heaving, kids all over the playground equipment and adults using that weird outdoors exercise kit....we clearly need stronger words to come from the Government, because people just aren't getting it.

Buccanarab · 21/03/2020 15:26

It started earlier in Italy, that's the only difference.

It didn't, the 1st cases were reported at the same time.

"The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak was confirmed to have spread to the United Kingdom on 31 January 2020"

"The first cases of COVID-19 in Italy during the 2019–20 worldwide pandemic were confirmed on 31 January 2020"

Haplap · 21/03/2020 15:33

No we're going to be worse. We're still dicking about when Italy had already locked down. They have more ICU capacity, than us, but still not enough. It's going horrendous and all because of our incompetent government. Blood on their hands.

IrenePantsoffski · 21/03/2020 15:35

Cases of severe self-righteousness are rising exponentially in the UK

Aren't they just.

I don't think the comparison with Italy really stands up to much scrutiny, either.

TheCanterburyWhales · 21/03/2020 15:36

I'd forgotten about those early 2 cases unt today (Italian news full of the fact it's exactly a month today) but another poster in Italy pointed out those 2 cases were completely cured and totally unconnected to the outbreak in Lombardia noted on the 21st.
Which is also worrying as it means there have probably been isolated outbreaks all over, that because people recovered quickly, haven't even been registered as cases.

TheCanterburyWhales · 21/03/2020 15:36

Why not Irene?

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 15:42

I think the likelyhood of riots is higher in the uk than italy - look how certain people are building up exploit it for their own gain.

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 21/03/2020 15:43

We are rural South West and have been invaded by holiday makers. The holiday parks and campsites should never have been allowed to open for the season. We don't have the resources here if people get ill. The supermarkets are empty yet they expect to come here and buy food. All the local entertainment parks and pubs etc are now closed so there is nothing to do anyway, but they will be using petrol pumps, parks, toilets etc and potentially spreading the virus from other areas. All of the accommodation will need cleaning, potentially spreading the virus to local people or next visitors if not cleaned properly.

A lot of people are extremely pissed off that this has been allowed to happen. Everyone just needs to stick to their own area and not travel to other areas to stop this spreading.

Weddings will be off now because all the venues are closed. My friends wedding in early May has been called off by the venue.

Devlesko · 21/03/2020 15:46

I work at wedding venues amongst other things and all mine have been cancelled, or i cancelled them.
I know some are still going ahead, but it's morally wrong.

cdtaylornats · 21/03/2020 15:47

Why are MN people so convinced Italy's medico-science professionals are better than the UKs.?

Shinesweetfreedom · 21/03/2020 15:48

@LuluJakey1
One of the most accurate descriptions I have read yet of the population of this country.

NothingIsWrong · 21/03/2020 15:49

My friend is a registrar, did a wedding this afternoon. They were banned from having any more than the two witnesses, but the venue had set up a Skype link for them and it was broadcast

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 21/03/2020 15:51

My neighbours just threw a BBQ party for a few friends :/ I am also jealous as they all came with bags of food, while we can't find much...

Derbygerbil · 21/03/2020 16:05

I bet those saying “no, we won’t be as bad as Italy” are the same people who were saying “it’s all a fuss about nothing - it’s just the flu!” a week or so back.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 21/03/2020 16:10

Why are MN people so convinced Italy's medico-science professionals are better than the UKs.?

It's not just Italy is it, it's almost every European country.

MoltonSilver · 21/03/2020 16:12

We are going to be like Italy

No question about it but its sooner than you think.
The UK is sleepwalking straight into it.

clarebear99 · 21/03/2020 16:39

@madcatladyforever did not see any cafes that were full, not sure why she said that 🤷‍♂️

I just went to the park for a walk with my daughter- keeping away from everyone, we saw 20 ppl in the basketball court (a lot more than normal) and 25 in the kids play park. It’s ridiculous, yes it’s shit but we to keep away from each other! I don’t see how we won’t go into lockdown because some idiots can’t listen to the rules.

happytobeheresparkl · 21/03/2020 17:24

People are irresponsible idiots !

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 21/03/2020 17:34

793 people have died in Italy today yet we are not locked down.

Vinorosso74 · 21/03/2020 17:39

SIL mentioned in family WhatsApp group that family were self isolating as she had cold and cough. Today she says they have been to a big park which was busy-they have 2 pre school age kids. I despair. I really do. Oh and she's an NHS key worker (not frontline but still) and the kids will be in nursery.

Sunshine1239 · 21/03/2020 17:53

Italy is locked down?

Lifesavesocialdistance · 21/03/2020 17:55

Red lentil yellow lentil

Comments like yours trigger me.
In 2007 I faced giving birth on a road side because maternity units were so understaffed they just closed doors.

The horror stories at the time from the run down hell holes our two local hospitals had become made me as afraid of ending up in one of them then due to underfunding , as I am afraid of ending up in one now due to coronavirus.

However money isn't the only issue. The whole thing needs a massive overhaul.
