We are going to be like Italy

Just like Italy we will be in a few weeks. The park is packed with children!! Weddings are still going ahead with hundreds of people, no one cares. There will be high risk people at the weddings because their mentality is we are not on lockdown so we will continue as normal.

Unfortunately I know a lot of people who are not taking the virus seriously and mock those that do, really pissing me off

Agree we are going to be worse then Italy.
In my area people are organising trips to the Pearl together ‘because otherwise they’ll go crazy’. I’m the unpopular one for pointing out that defeats the purpose of paying for nursery.
These bloody rainbow walks piss me off too. A schedule has just gone up on my local Facebook group of times and roads the kids can walk together.
Don’t even get me started on the adverts for cheap holidays on the coast.
Lock us down. People need to be given no choice because they abuse the freedom we already have.

PlugholePencil · 21/03/2020 12:54

Park not pearl

PlugholePencil · 21/03/2020 12:55

God, typed in a hurry. Defeats the purpose of closing the nursery.

Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon · 21/03/2020 12:57

I was wondering what trips to the pearl involved - was thinking it sounded fancy! (Sorry, I know this is serious.... I just got to laugh where I csn at the moment!)

username108 · 21/03/2020 12:58

Honestly, I can't wait to watch the world burn. We all deserve it.

Straycatstrut · 21/03/2020 13:00

@Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon Where did you get that from please? I'm trying to keep up with it too. Really scary Sad.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 21/03/2020 13:01

@RedLentilYellowLentil
Your post has made me angry. Do you think whoever you would have voted for would do it better? It is the population of this country not doing what they are "requested" in this democracy. Look how responsible we are ? Perhaps you would prefer the army patrolling as in other countries. All the idiots have to do is socail distancing for gods sake. Oh no I forgot, idiots are immune from illness, they wont give it to anyone else and its all a conspiracy anyway. The government is handling it the best way they can, its the bloody people who are screwing it up

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 21/03/2020 13:03

Pub near me (typical old WMC type) has curtains drawn but clearly people inside drinking as you can hear them when you walk past. Feel like calling the police tbh

NationalEmergency · 21/03/2020 13:05

Maybe if ventilators were reserved for the sensible ones who obeyed the rules, they might change their minds regarding social distancingHmm

Seventyone72seventy3 · 21/03/2020 13:09

*Do you think whoever you would have voted for would do it better?

If you think every party and every prime minister would do things exactly the same why do you even bother voting? I think a different PM could have handled this very differently and more effectively.

lennyhenryslaugh · 21/03/2020 13:09

I'm still having to work and take all my germs home to my 4 children

Popsandevie · 21/03/2020 13:11

I am not certain the police will have any powers to do anything. There has been no legislation passed from my understanding?

nellodee · 21/03/2020 13:13

Apologies for poor formatting, I can't get the date not to cut off.

Just like Italy we will be in a few weeks

Are you Yoda?

LambriniSocialist · 21/03/2020 13:15

Yes, I think we will be worse than Italy. I think it's going to be too difficult to turn this around now.

HRH2020 · 21/03/2020 13:15

The people ignoring the advice will be the first to complain when there are no ambulances or beds to be admitted to.

LambriniSocialist · 21/03/2020 13:16

Are you Yoda?

I had to read that sentence from the OP a few times and had the same thought Grin

LuluJakey1 · 21/03/2020 13:16

Nomorepoliticsplease I actually think the government is doing a decent job at this point but I do think Lentil has a point about the damage done over the last 10 years by austerity which has made our ability to cope with this in many ways worse.

But I think they are doing a decent job and listening and prepared to act. I don't think Corbyn would have dealt with it as well.

LuluJakey1 · 21/03/2020 13:17

Nomorepolitics I do wonder why we seem to be a nation with so many stupid, arrogant, greedy, ignorant fuckers?

simplekindoflife · 21/03/2020 13:17

My next door neighbours are having a kids party in the garden! Bouncy castle, guests, elderly grandparents, babies...

The mind boggles!!

LeeMiller · 21/03/2020 13:18

I fear it would be worse than Italy even if the government put everyone in full lockdown now, but if they don't then I think it might be much worse. And remember Italy hasn't peaked yet.

chococo · 21/03/2020 13:20

It's a private venue. The venue has said any weddings due to take place can be postponed without any additional fees to a later date subject to availability, but the person getting married is refusing to change date and literally pulls faces everytime I try to emphasise the importance. I just hope the government bans all private functions too and just puts us on lockdown as the venue has said only on lockdown the weddings will not go ahead

OP posts:
Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 13:21

Buzz feed - 'Downing Street is still considering a partial lockdown of London in the coming weeks.'

kittykat7210 · 21/03/2020 13:23

I spoke to my auntie (runs infection control units in 2 hospitals) and she says that whilst we will have more infection our death rates won’t be as severe, Italy have a much older population AND apparently have been abusing antibiotics for a long time, and whilst obviously it’s a viral infection, viral infections often cause secondary bacterial infections. Obviously despite 40 years experience this is a new virus and cannot be exactly predicted, but she says our strict rules on antibiotics will stand us in better stead than Italy.

NeckPainChairSearch · 21/03/2020 13:24

Agree that the NHS is in appalling shape after 10 years of Tories. It's not like we weren't warned though. Millions of voters just didn't think they'd be at the sharp end of brutal Tory cuts.

I don't think the government is on message yet. I think BJ is really struggling to control the narrative and that's part of the problem.

And 'we'll be through the worst in 12 weeks' was nothing short of fucking stupid and Trump-esque. The country does NOT need more bloody lies and puffed-up soundbites. It erodes trust and we NEED trust.
