We are going to be like Italy

Just like Italy we will be in a few weeks. The park is packed with children!! Weddings are still going ahead with hundreds of people, no one cares. There will be high risk people at the weddings because their mentality is we are not on lockdown so we will continue as normal.

Unfortunately I know a lot of people who are not taking the virus seriously and mock those that do, really pissing me off

OP posts:

Are you sure you aren’t jealous of the bride OP?

If you don’t want to go to the wedding just don’t turn up, anything else is none of your business.

Derbygerbil · 21/03/2020 13:55

It would be nice if they defined key workers too. I work for a bank and all we've heard is "some bank workers" so we don't know if it applies to us at all (we're not a retail bank) and, if so, which workers?

Where have you been? It was defined late Thursday night:

This thread feels like a bunch of old women knitting around the guillotine

copperheart · 21/03/2020 13:56

Cases of severe self-righteousness are rising exponentially in the UK

This!

TheCanterburyWhales · 21/03/2020 13:57

In what sense?

It is my business. My brother is a doctor responsible for a CV community hub in the south-west. These people’s irresponsibility puts him and his staff under even more pressure than they are currently. Get out of your bubble and stop being so fucking selfish.

TheCanterburyWhales · 21/03/2020 13:58

@Seventyone72seventy3, of course, sorry, I forgot you'd been at it for longer!

So much wrong with this post.

Why would you say she’s jealous? Nothing to suggest it and saying so is very odd.

It’s everyone’s business when people are being socially irresponsible.

unhappyclap · 21/03/2020 14:00

@Seventyone72seventy3 Do you or anyone else know where we can see one of these graphs?

I think so many people are underestimating what is happening. Had a friend ask if I wanted to meet up this weekend...erm no!

thatgingergirl · 21/03/2020 14:01

What factors make Italy the comparator with us? Population/land mass/age etc? I've been looking at stats for the Netherlands - sadly quite a number of coronavirus deaths but with a far, far smaller population than UK. What comparators are the correct ones?

ginginchinchin · 21/03/2020 14:01

@RedLentilYellowLentil In my area it was the Labour Party, under Tony Blair, who took our a&e away and made our hospital a satellite clinic instead. Don't blame the tories solely for this, it was your beloved Labour Party who started the asset stripping. Incidentally this is something that spread everywhere. I worked all over the country and saw exactly the same save our hospital headlines everywhere, along with the obligatory health authority announcements of '... it's not safe ... we can't recruit staff... '.

unhappyclap · 21/03/2020 14:02

Sorry can see pics and grah further up the thread.

InglouriousBasterd · 21/03/2020 14:02

^

What Kitty said. I’ve done a lot of pharmaceutical work in Italy and they have a very elderly population with largely uncontrolled diabetes and underlying health conditions. We will likely have more cases however.

madcatladyforever · 21/03/2020 14:05

We bloody well are, I went to the chemist today - had prearranged with them to throw my prescription through the car window at a certain time as I'm front line and don't want to stand in there infecting everybody!!!
It's a very small very rural town in the west country and there was a queue all the way down the road for the chemist and everyone in the queue was standing next to each other chatting, gossiping, a couple of people coughing, elderly in the queue as well as Boots now has a 2 week medication delivery date and nobody wants to wait that long.
Its a beautiful sunny day and the town was absolutely rammed with people going for a walk - the entire family - adults, kids, elderly, everyone was out.
Cafes were full, shops were full, it was packed. I have never ever seen the town so full.
I didn't even get out of the car to get a paper. I just went home.
I know it's sunny and lovely out there but FF's sunlight does not kill this virus.

UYScuti · 21/03/2020 14:07

think about a forest fire it can only continue to rage if there is enough fuel for it, Italy has a huge amount of human fuel for the virus, when the fuel runs out the virus runs out of people who are susceptible to its worst effects and the numbers will drop

897654321abcvrufhfgg · 21/03/2020 14:07

2 weeks after first death Italy had 104 deaths, I believe we had 142 at the same stage.

teta · 21/03/2020 14:11

I think we will be in a worse situation sadly. People's stupidity just has to be seen to be believed . The shops were packed and we have loads of tourists from the west midlands here today - rural area. The car park is now full and everyone is cheek by jowl there.

InglouriousBasterd · 21/03/2020 14:14

Yep UY, I agree

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/03/2020 14:16

I think we'll be on a total shutdown in the next fortnight, latest.

BirdandSparrow · 21/03/2020 14:17

@FreakStar in Italy all schools are closed. In Spain too, all schools completely closed all across the country until at least 30 March.
I think keeping schools open for key workers will turn out to have been a mistake.
Very half arsed measures in the UK, applied very slowly.

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/03/2020 14:19

I hope we go on Lockdown soon.

That will stop all the buggers coming from 20/30 miles away to shop in our tiny supermarket, possibly spreading their germs (we are very rural and no local cases) and buying up their allocation of food in every supermarket they pass.

Orangecake123 · 21/03/2020 14:19

Much worse than Italy- I think because of the reasons you've mentioned and the state of our NHS hospitals which had already been under a lot of pressure and severely underfunded for years.

Bulb1976 · 21/03/2020 14:21

Right, so whilst supermarkets are open with hundreds of people in them, offices, businesses and a large majority of people that are still going to be working in schools let’s all attack brides that want their weddings to go ahead.

Sunshine1239 · 21/03/2020 14:33

The key worker list is the issue

Many employers including mine are staying open and making staff work now they know they are key workers and have child care

Last week I was told I’d be working from home - now I’m not allowed all and they’re almost made up that they can force us in

We are by no means an essential service
