Tesco bare....why aren't the shelves being restocked ?

I was in my local Tesco at 9am
There was no meat (no chickens or bacon)
The toilet rolls gone,no pasta (basically the obvious things )
At 9am you would think there would be some available.
Is this the same in your area?

I don’t understand what essential workers are supposed to do. We can’t go to the shops every day, we can’t book an online delivery for days and most stuff is out of stock. I’m beginning to feel v v worried about how i will actually get essentials if I have to isolate.

PlugholePencil · 17/03/2020 14:14

Our Tesco was 24hour but is shutting overnight to restock shelves. It re-opens at 6am, I went after the school run. No meat, no eggs, no pasta, no loo roll. So stripped within 3 hours. Unbelievable.

Sparklingplasters · 17/03/2020 14:15

Our Sainsbury’s get deliveries three times a day but toilet rolls are taking up so much space in lorry’s that other stuff isn’t getting through

adiposegirl2 · 17/03/2020 14:16

We the people are not waiting for restocked shelves. We see a pallett, we are tearing into it and helping ourselves.

I have seen this myself on several occasions. I dont partake in case I catch something.

And yes I do sanitise my shopping once I get home.

Sarawish · 17/03/2020 14:16

The people that stockpile so selfishly and with a complete disregard for the welfare of others should be named and shamed. On Facebook and Twitter.

It is an accurate measure of someone’s true personality, how they behave in situations like this.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/03/2020 14:18

Our Tesco not too bad. I think supply will catch up in the main, as there is a limit to how much people can stockpile. They will have to adjust to more deliveries and fewer people in the actual shops though.
They had most things we needed yesterday, even loo roll, just not the big packs of it we normally buy.

motheroftwoboys · 17/03/2020 14:19

Our local large Tesco in the north east is short of loo roll, hand wash, rice, pasta, bleach and - strangely - washing up liquid. Bit low on some tinned veg. Other than that it seems business as usual.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/03/2020 14:21

We haven’t needed to grab loads now as we have been buying a few extra items with each shop since January, just in case this happened. So now we have enough stored food for a couple of weeks emergency isolation, which I like to have in anyway as we live rurally.

HowDoesTheCow · 17/03/2020 14:23

Morrisons today had no trolleys either at the door or in the car park as they were all in use. No decent chocolate on the shelves either.

Hollyhobbi · 17/03/2020 14:27

Are ye all practising social distancing???? Doesn't sound like it.

MarieG10 · 17/03/2020 14:28

Popped into Morrison's to pick up some bits at 8am. Shelves empty and milk cages stripped bare. The assistant said people had been queuing at 7am and when doors opened were running down the aisles.

WTF are they doing with all that milk? Freezing it I assume.

I guess it will be like this for a few weeks until people just physically can't store any more

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 14:28

People still need to eat and hunt for the elusive toilet rolls!

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 14:29

I bought milk and bread and something for the kids dinner

ArthurMorgan · 17/03/2020 14:30

Our asda is no longer 24hours but on a mainly 6am - 12 am basis (Mondays are 7am,Sundays are usual) I think if we stand a chance of getting anything at all it needs to be at 6am when they open

SoCrimeaRiver · 17/03/2020 14:30

A colleague asked in her local Tesco about deliveries (she needed nappies for her grandson). The shelf stacker said that they get deliveries at 10pm each night but shelves are empty within 20 minutes.

She didn't get her nappies.

Littleposh · 17/03/2020 14:30

They are.

My local Tesco had a full stock of toilet paper yesterday, it had completely gone in 2 hours

PeterPanGoesWrong · 17/03/2020 14:32

I can assure you, the supermarkets are desperately trying to restock. But that’s pretty hard when everyone is panic buying everything. My local, city centre store which is usually a 24 hour store has been closing at midnight to restock.

I really feel bad for the people who need to self isolate but can not buy months worth of food etc.

ItsLikeSputnik · 17/03/2020 14:33

I’m a home delivery picker in Morrisons. It’s been crazy for the past few days. People are queuing to get in the store at opening time and the shelves are decimated within an hour or two. A pallet of loo rolls was almost fought over and was gone in less than ten minutes.

EstuaryBird · 17/03/2020 14:33

We’re isolating as we both have respiratory problems, we’re in our 60s. We have about enough food and supplies for about 2 weeks and an Asda slot booked for weekend after next..but obviously we’ll only get what they have to send.

The panic buying scares me more than the virus to be honest. I’m certain people are taking more perishable food than they can store which will end up thrown away. This greed just disgusts me.

If the Government don’t find a way to clamp down on this there will be more people in hospital with malnutrition than CV. Simply ‘asking’ people is not sufficient. I don’t have a solution but maybe it’s time somebody came up with a rationing app!

BubblesBuddy · 17/03/2020 14:35

We have our own septic tank and soakaway. Sadly we will be using kitchen roll for loo paper before long. Cannot buy any anywhere! It will not be great for our system but it’s private so we will have to deal with it ourselves when it stops working. Very cross about selfish stupid people and the shops should have stopped over buying earlier!!!

adiposegirl2 · 17/03/2020 14:35

Tesco Purley had a two item limit on a lots of items and closes overnight to restock.

rosegoldwatcher · 17/03/2020 14:35

Just imagine what might be left of our population if this goes on until 2021; all the considerate people dead from starvation and only the greedy selfish fuckers left.

Allflightscancelled · 17/03/2020 14:36

Yesterday our Morrisons had loads of fresh meat, fish, fruit and veg but was totally out of cold remedies, loo roll, pasta and soaps of any kind. This was fine for me because I only really wanted fresh stuff, then managed to get one of the last three hand wash bottles in our local pharmacy.

Today in a huge Sainsburys trying for a few things because DD has invited two picky eaters over for tea (thanks Hmm) it was like a swarm of locusts had been through. Almost no fresh stuff of any kind. Also, I noticed, no loo rolls, soap, cold remedies, pasta etc (all the usual). Some people must have VAST stocks of these things Angry

Aesopfable · 17/03/2020 14:36

Families are going to struggle if you can only take a couple of packets at a time. They perhaps need to ration it according to numbers in the household.

Lifesabeach86 · 17/03/2020 14:37

Because the demand has suddenly skyrocketed and the supply can't keep up!
