Tesco bare....why aren't the shelves being restocked ?

I was in my local Tesco at 9am
There was no meat (no chickens or bacon)
The toilet rolls gone,no pasta (basically the obvious things )
At 9am you would think there would be some available.
Is this the same in your area?

Also - this is a great time to be supporting British farmers. Buying farm gate produce rather than queueing in the shops for hours for things like eggs, veg and milk!

EverydayLife · 17/03/2020 16:06

I did think there was an extra stash at the back!

Devlesko · 17/03/2020 16:07

Because as soon as they have a delivery and restock, twats are panic buying.
Rationing will help, I can see this happening within the month, because of the selfish cf's.
It's going to take a few million to die before we actually look at what an entitled selfish load of wankers we are.

bananacakeZ · 17/03/2020 16:08

Shall we let Darwinism fix all this? - the people who are deliberately going out and mauling each other and touching everything in sight are most likely to catch CV - which will be apparent in 2 weeks. Karma?

SinglePringle · 17/03/2020 16:08

God I pray that people stop panic buying. I get it, you go into a shop, shelves are bare, staff put out stocks, shoppers buy them all because shelves are bare ... and so it continues. But it’s just not necessary.

If you’re doing it, why? And please stop. There’s enough of everyone shops normally.

PussyWillowPeach · 17/03/2020 16:11

@ChrisPrattsFace

As someone who used to work in a supermarket - we definitely used to get deliveries everyday. Usually there would be a delivery drop at least 3 times per day of everything but bread.

FamBae · 17/03/2020 16:11

My story a of a little act of kindness ..... I popped into my little village convenience store on Friday, they had everything that I couldn't get in Tesco, loo rolls, pasta, flour and antibac handwash, I bought one of each except the loo roll as I always get a 24 pack and there's only the two of us. So phone DM for a chat and to see if she was OK after Boris told her she can't go out. She had been shopping but couldn't get hand wash, pasta, loo rolls or Quorn mince she & her partner had tried 4 supermarkets, so I said no worries my little corner shop has all that, popped in yesterday and all gone but pasta (his last box) so got mum a bag of pasta and I said what a shame about the hand wash as DM couldn't get any, so he went out the back and gave me one of the three bottles that he had reserved for himself and a face mask for my DM, bought a huge smile to my face, I shall be popping back with some flowers tomorrow. Oh and I managed to find her some Quorn mince in a very decimated Asda nearby.

ChickenyChick · 17/03/2020 16:14

there is enough if veryone shops normally.

but these are not normal times, and people are not behaving normally.

My "normal" is very down to earth and unflappable. At Sainsbury's this morning I felt a huge surge of anxiety that's been with me all day

At least my subconscious keeps me entertained by putting songs into my mind... this morning I found myself humming "where is my mind" by the Pixies Grin

PussyWillowPeach

-as some one who’s currently working in a supermarket and has been for 12 years, we absolutely don’t get deliveries every day.

Ladiva1971 · 17/03/2020 16:15

I work at Lidl and we have not recieved pasta, eggs, sugar, flour etc for 3 days now, our normal delivery is 16 palettes a day and now we are now only receving 4. We open at 8 and the shelves are bare then.

flowerycurtain · 17/03/2020 16:16

Farmer here. For the best chance of fresh food head to Waitrose, M&S, Tesco, Morrison's or co op.

They have regular contracts with farmers and we are supplying as normal. More in fact. I'm having my produce picked up daily rather than thrice weekly.

The discounters buy whatever is left on the market - they buy the surplus when we have it cheap. Therefore they're the last in line when it comes to having any stock at the minute.

AnneKipanki · 17/03/2020 16:19

SIL works in Tesco . Lat week was horrendous . As soon as the shelves were filled they were empty again .
Yesterday Tesco Metro got a toilet roll delivery 130pm . Gone by 2 pm .

Weregoingonanadventure · 17/03/2020 16:25

Because people wont stop panic buying. If everyone just did a normal shop, with maybe a couple extra bits then there would be enough for everyone. They cant keep up with stocking piles of stuff for every person. If everyone just bought normally then the supply chain would keep up.

It's not tesco you should be mad at, it's the fucking idiots stripping the shelves.

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/03/2020 16:26

@ChrisPrattsFace

I work in a very small supermarket. We get deliveries every day! Not always the same stuff, one day will be fresh, another day ambient, another day frozen. We get bread delivered every day except Sunday, we have our own bakery to bake stuff off seven days a week.

Suppliers are pulling out all the stops to get us multi deliveries though. Where do you work where you don't get deliveries every day?

gingergiraffe · 17/03/2020 16:27

No flour of any kind in my huge local Asda at 8am this morning and I had run out. Are people suddenly going to start baking when they don’t normally do? I fear there will a mountain of wasted food in a few months when lots of perishable products run out of date.

LettyBriggs · 17/03/2020 16:31

Not the same where I am at all, but within a 15 minute walk of my house I have about 10 supermarkets (inc sainsbury local etc). HOwever none of them seem to have toilet paper. All of the corner shops have heavily market up toilet paper though.

PickAChew · 17/03/2020 16:34

They are, just not fast enough. DH was in a Tesco which had a massive delivery of loo roll, while he was there, at the weekend. He picked up the last box of Daz which he was there (we needed it and that was his main reason for going to Tesco and not Sainsburys - we do lots of laundry thanks to a kid with SN and only had a few day's worth left). They had stocked up with that again, when he stopped by on his way to work, this morning.

LASH38 · 17/03/2020 16:37

@LettyBriggs, you may have solved your local missing roll issue there Grin

Actually it’s not funny, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the local shops are buying from supermarkets then marking up.

DieSchottin93 · 17/03/2020 16:38

It's a vicious circle. The more people panic buy the emptier the shelves will be and the longer it will take for them to be restocked. People have been panic buying for a couple of weeks now, surely they must all have enough by now? Confused

adaline · 17/03/2020 16:39

It's a combination of things.

One - a vicious circle. You go in and there's barely anything left so you worry and buy more than normal, hence there's nothing left for the next person and so on.

Two - supply can't keep up with the demand.

Three - lots of food comes in from overseas.

Icecreamdiva · 17/03/2020 16:40

I’ve just updated my ‘normal ‘ midweek Tesco order and instead of the usual £40 it’s over £100. Not because I’m panic buying but because instead of three adults being out all day at work so buying soup/sandwiches/fruit/snacks at works canteens plus all four of us eating out or buying takeaways 2/3 nights a week, all of a sudden there are four adults living at home and we will be eating in for every meal. DH is also forgoing his regular pub visits so I’ve bought beer for him and I’ve also added a medicinal bottle of gin for me. Nor will we be stopping off when we are out to buy any last minute bits and pieces. Everything we will consume over the next few days is in there. Overall we will spend a lot less than normal but it looks like a lot when buying it all at once

adaline · 17/03/2020 16:40

I think saying to do a normal shop isn't helpful to those who are having to isolate. If you can only go out to get supplies and you know your local shop will have nothing, wouldn't you get what you could now?

Drivemybluecar · 17/03/2020 16:46

I have food as I live in the middle of nowhere so I always have a packed larder and freezer. But I’m worried about people eating it because what if this lasts for ages and I can’t get more food !!!!!!

Never been in this position before and I will admit to being scared

user1497207191 · 17/03/2020 16:47

At 9am you would think there would be some available.

Not all deliveries are overnight. Not everything gets delivered every day.

mindproject · 17/03/2020 16:49

The authorities want us to fight amongst ourselves over the last loo roll. We are being socially engineered.

If you cant get loo roll use a flannel and wash it.
