Our school is shut from tomorrow

Just had an email from DD large secondary school in northwest saying they will be shut from tomorrow until the Easter break - and to wait for further updates on whether they will open after Easter.

I'm presuming this is nationwide

Ah! Thanks! That’s helpful info x

tinytemper66 · 17/03/2020 13:23

I don't think so!

Littlebookwormiam · 17/03/2020 13:23

Heard nothing about our school in North Wales 🤷‍♀️ glad yours is closing

leafygarden · 17/03/2020 13:25

@tinytemper66 erm - what do you mean?

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 17/03/2020 13:25

Nope, not nationwide if you're in England. There is no official instruction to close schools.

Morgan12 · 17/03/2020 13:25

Clearly she means it's not nationwide.

AvocadoOwl · 17/03/2020 13:26

Interesting. Is this on government advice? If not is it an academy school?

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 13:26

I don't think its all schools. Theres a large secondary near me which is closed from today due to teaching shortages but most still remain open.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/03/2020 13:28

Of course it’s not nationwide Angry

You think out of the whole country, BoJo phoned your headteacher first to let them know?

leafygarden · 17/03/2020 13:31

Why are some of you so upset that I'm thinking it's nationwide??

I don't know - I was just hazarding a guess and posting on here to see if anyone else was having their school shut.

Apologies if that is very contentious, as it wasn't meant to be.

As far as I know, in my area of Leeds the schools are still open. I'm into week 2 of isolation and am still seeing the school run going past in the morning/afternoon

leafygarden · 17/03/2020 13:32

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat no I didn't think that Confused

OP posts:
Mistlewoeandwhine · 17/03/2020 13:32

If it’s SH then I think it is just that particular school due to staff shortages.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/03/2020 13:33

Because that’s how rumours start. It’s causes panic and distress and it spreads like wildfire.

leafygarden · 17/03/2020 13:33

@RubaDubMum89 the school will be shut from tomorrow onwards

OP posts:
MarieQueenofScots · 17/03/2020 13:34

Christ why the continuous chippiness?!

How hard is a pleasant response?

We’ve not heard anything OP - although we’ve had a mail saying how communications will come out etc.

leafygarden · 17/03/2020 13:34

@Mistlewoeandwhine sorry - what's SH?

LefttoherownDevizes · 17/03/2020 13:34

Our primary in London/Surrey is shutting from tomorrow as a quarter of staff of self-isolating. It is operating a skeleton childcare service though for frontline NHS staff or others that have to go into work, but they've made clear there ma not be hot food available and no schoolwork (other than that which is being set by the teachers to be done online)

Letthemysterybe · 17/03/2020 13:35

We’ve had in update today that our school plans to remain open as long as possible.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 17/03/2020 13:35

Sorry to hear that OP. I imagine it’s staff shortages now that teachers need to stay home even with a slight cough.

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 13:35

The initials of the school?

usernotfound0000 · 17/03/2020 13:37

@RubaDubMum89 Leeds here too, DD school definitely still open. A nearby primary school had a case and they closed for deep cleaning but only a few days. Another school has closed nursery but not heard of any others. I imagine teacher shortages will be the cause before the government close them all.

Mintjulia · 17/03/2020 13:38

No, not here. School intends to stay open until Easter unless instructed otherwise by govt.

ItchySeveredFoot · 17/03/2020 13:39

A local secondary has had to shut because they no longer have enough staff to run it. But we're east Midlands.

Lightuptheroom · 17/03/2020 13:41

South here, schools are closing due to staff shortages, seems to be the way they are trying to close whilst there isn't any definite advice from the government
