Just had an email from DD large secondary school in northwest saying they will be shut from tomorrow until the Easter break - and to wait for further updates on whether they will open after Easter.

I'm presuming this is nationwide

I assume you're in Trafford?

Wish our local would do the same. I've taken my kids out now anyway

MissFrizzleIAmNot · 17/03/2020 14:14

We have 1 laptop between 6 people.

4 of them at school. I don't know how we will do all this online work

almondlattecheesecake · 17/03/2020 14:15

We had an email today to let us know that due to staffing levels the school may have to close.

Official decision will be taken later this afternoon / evening.

Absentwomen · 17/03/2020 14:17

Its possible to check on local authority websites, upcoming planned closures.

Two of our secondary schools have closed due to staff shortages.

Pinkbutterfly79 · 17/03/2020 14:17

I work in a primary school. We are still open at the moment but have a number of pregnant staff and a few that have to self isolate for various reasons so I don’t think it will be long before we are forced to close.

We were told yesterday that if a child is off school because they are unwell the absence will be authorised but if they are just taking precautions because they are worried it will be classed as unauthorised and may result in a fine Shock Angry

lazylinguist · 17/03/2020 14:17

Ha - posted upthread to say 'Nope, no closures here'. Just found out several local schools have decided to close from tomorrow, including my dc's!

1980sQueen · 17/03/2020 14:17

To be honest I can't see any schools being open this time next week.
Surely not now.
I know so many people now who are self isolating just in our village alone. Even those that are not are too terrified to send their kids to school.
If there are still schools open by the end of the week, then the country is even more messed up than I feared.

1980sQueen · 17/03/2020 14:21

At the end of the day health comes first and foremost.
Yes, education is important, but the schools have agreed to send work home.
There is no way I am putting my child with underlying health conditions at risk. Thankfully the school agrees with me and has authorised the absence.
Every parent should have the right to make their own decision when it comes to their child's health and well being.

crustycrab · 17/03/2020 14:23

Is it QES? They're closing due to so many staff self isolating that it's unsafe to stay open

Omashu · 17/03/2020 14:23

Are you talking about Stretford high school I. Manchester? If so, I know they have shut but it’s because they don’t have enough staff as a lot of them are self isolating and they school don’t believe the government are doing enough so they closed.

forkfun · 17/03/2020 14:26

It'll happen sooner than later to all schools. We're in self-isolation, but the local primary is now down to minimum staffing numbers. If a few more go off sick/self-isolate, the school will have to shut.

Wejustdontknow · 17/03/2020 14:30

I am South Yorkshire and my sons secondary has closed to years 8/9 due to low staff, they are trying to prioritize those doing gcse’s and the youngest. They have said any that are on free school meals they will be in contact to arrange for this to be accessed which I think is reassuring to see for those who would need it

Nquartz · 17/03/2020 14:31

My friend has been asked to pick her DD up immediately & she's off for 12 weeks due to high risk

Waspnest · 17/03/2020 14:32

We've been told today that DD's school are intending to stay open providing they have the staff but if they don't have the staff, priority will be given to Ys 11 and 13 and the others may be sent home with a days notice. The students have already been given log in details etc and will be expected to follow their usual timetable at home.

TantieTowie · 17/03/2020 14:33

Our school (South West) is closing from end of today

Notredamn · 17/03/2020 14:34

Ours has as well, as of tomorrow.

MunchMunch · 17/03/2020 14:39

One of our local schools (an academy) has closed apart from year 5,6,10 &11.

Child care provisions for anyone who needs to work are being provided and anyone on FSM are getting a voucher for Aldi.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/03/2020 14:41

DS's primary is still open, still plenty of kids going in.

NetballHoop · 17/03/2020 14:42

Two of our schools (South East) have closed for some year groups due to lack of staff.

MinkowskisButterfly · 17/03/2020 14:43

We are a primary in the northwest, we haven't heard anything about closing. The fact school have not told us to look out for info on updated cv isolation rules (14 days from 7) I find odd as our school seem really on the ball with this info as soon as there is a change. They have cancelled all school clubs for all years and all school trips until further notice.

KoalasandRabbit · 17/03/2020 14:44

Our school has closed to year 9 from tomorrow.

Work set for English, rest being investigated. Other years may be closed soon.

nancypineapple · 17/03/2020 14:45

Just had an e mail from dd large london comp saying only yr 7, 11 and 13 are coming in from tomorrow due to staff shortages. Money and help being sent home for pupils in receipt of school meals. I think it's a very brave decision and absolutely the right one for this part of London

KoalasandRabbit · 17/03/2020 14:45

Our Italy, France and Spain school trips they are adamant are still running in early June. Confused

Juliehooligan · 17/03/2020 14:47

If it’s the same school that my niece goes to, it’s only for yr 7,8 and 9 due to staff shortages.

PhoneTwattery · 17/03/2020 14:47

If it's the same school as I'm thinking (North West) then they are open to Year 11 and 13 only.

If not then there are two of them!
