I'm currently under lockdown in France in a relatively big city. The measures came into effect at 12pm today and will last for at least two weeks... Feel free to ask any questions !

My students either went back to their parents or are holed up in halls of residence.

walkwalk · 21/03/2020 18:46

Op is it still possible to get online deliveries from amazon and non-essential shops websites?

Thanks

Makiwa · 21/03/2020 18:56

My 3rd year student DS is at home. No lessons provided. No news about exams. His uni is only 50km away across the other side of Ile de France from us so he didn't cross half the country when the news was announced.

I don't order much by internet but all shops who have my data have emailed or texted to to say that they're deliverying as usual.

MickeyMouae199 · 21/03/2020 19:38

@kersh33 I am in Toulouse :-)

@Seventyone72seventy3 I really hope that that doesn't happen here... But I guess the lack of people on the streets combined with the police being stretched almost makes it easier ?

@walkwalk

Similar to @Makiwa, my deliveries are still coming for now

@Makiwa Yikes that must be stressful for your DS ? Is he at a "fac" ?

I work for a "grand école" and lessons are being provided... We don't -compared to some facs - have that many students and it's already taking a lot of effort from both students and lecturers to maintain classes... I can imagine places with more student really struggling to keep teaching going...

@Madcats The advice at my uni to students was to go home if at all possible. Quite a few are still at their accommodation (people whose parents live far away etc.) but it's a campus uni so not too bad. Management have a list of students who stayed put and check up on them regularly !

Thanks op!

Best wishes

Mickey he is at a IUT studying web and mobile applications. The 3rd year involves alternance so he spends half the time there and half the time at work. There are less than 50 of them on the course so a bit surprised that there's been nothing forthcoming from the teachers, still light-years away from les grandes écoles. He's not showing any signs of anxiety but that's probably because he is the classic laid back nerd Smile. On Monday his work ordered everyone to WFH. He seems to have enough work from them to keep him occupied throughout the week. I'm wondering how long we keep paying rent on his studio while he's holed up here.

BurneyFanny · 21/03/2020 20:28

We are theoretically supposed to be teaching online. Some are managing online but those of us with young kids can hardly carve out time for preparing and delivering a three-hour Skype lecture.

Makiwa · 21/03/2020 20:46

Burney that's absolutely understandable but I am sure that you have communicated your situation with your students. We're just at the start of this new way of life and we'll all eventually find some middle way.

Frenchfemme · 21/03/2020 21:01

A welcome but unexpected phenomenon is that since the restrictions came into force, I have had no sales or scam phone calls. Previously, I was getting on average 5-10 per day (glad I have an answerphone!). I’m not complaining, but it’s eerily quiet.

BurneyFanny · 21/03/2020 21:44

Fair point, they have all had emails.

Booboostwo · 22/03/2020 05:47

I am an hour from Toulouse OP!

kersh33 · 22/03/2020 08:28

I'm not too far away from Toulouse, but no restrictions on riverbanks yet that I have heard of. Just the curfew. Not sure about public parks - I hope they are closed like the beaches as people will just congregate there otherwise.

I think the sunny weather we get at this time of year is going to test a lot of people's resolve. It is sad to see all the restaurants and cafes with their empty terraces which would usually be bustling, but there will be other sunny days once we get through this! 😊

crapette · 22/03/2020 08:42

@MickeyMouae199 @Booboostwo @kersh33

I am also just under an hour from Toulouse Grin

pluiedeprintemps · 22/03/2020 11:52

@Frenchfemme

I have noticed this too - no spam calls !

pluiedeprintemps · 22/03/2020 11:55

@walkwalk
Amazon has stopped shipping non-essentials in France and Italy

Booboostwo · 22/03/2020 12:13

There is nothing on the Amazon.fr site, no emails sent to clients and I just put in an order that was accepted. Are you sure this is correct?

pluiedeprintemps · 22/03/2020 12:27

@Booboostwo
I hope it isn't correct - I have an order in that I am waiting on but I saw more than a couple of reputable sources confirming it.

BurneyFanny · 22/03/2020 13:21

Some absolute arse of a woman on my FB this morning was asking where still delivered because she needs more "indoor wear". FFS.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 13:23

"indoor wear" hahaha, isn't that just....clothes? Or pyjamas?

BurneyFanny · 22/03/2020 13:30

Well precisely. And some poor minimum wage warehouse workers and delivery bods are going to risk their lives bringing her her vital new sweatpants.

GabsAlot · 22/03/2020 13:39

can i ask how much notice u were given for lockdown-it was hours for pubs and resturants here but i magine a lockdown will take longer
