I'm currently under lockdown in France in a relatively big city. The measures came into effect at 12pm today and will last for at least two weeks... Feel free to ask any questions !

@GabsAlot
For non-essential shops etc it was announced at 8 on that everything must shut at midnight if I remember correctly.

For lockdown, it was announced at 8 pm for midday the next day.

@BurneyFanny @BirdandSparrow

I'm planning on growing my body hair long enough all over that it becomes a whole bodysuit - that'll be my indoor wear.

KatharinaRosalie · 22/03/2020 14:07

A welcome but unexpected phenomenon

We never use the landline. As it's part of the package, we still have the phone for emergencies, but it's on silent and we have no answering machine. For mobiles, download the Should I Answer app, works nicely with French sales calls as well.

Unexpected phenomenon over here - exactly like in Avengers after half the world's population had been wiped out, wildlife is coming back. Hedgehogs all over to start with. Last night dogs were going nuts and whined the entire night, and after being out like 200 times, one was clearly stinking of fox poop. We don't have urban foxes here, never seen one in my actual garden.

We also have some neighbours who believe that 'lockdown is lockdown' and have been gossiping that we should not be walking our dogs. Their own dog has spent their entire life in a 2x3m cage, so of course they don't see the need..

Thanks for updating @pluiedeprintemps

Have a baby fast outgrowing her current clothes size here and nothing in the next size up!

GabsAlot · 22/03/2020 14:25

thanks pluie-stay well

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 16:35

@pluiedeprintemps hahahaha! Great idea!

JM Blanquer (the education minister) has just announced that the most probable scenario would see kids going back to school on May 4th !

May sounds good to me, could be September..

In the Corrèze, just north of Brive in rural area. Went to intermarché yesterday, the previous time no pasta, but now restocked and limited to 1 pack per trolley. 1 person per trolley. Plexiglass screens on tills and cashiers wearing masks, as were staff on meat/fish/cheese counters. Strangely no wholemeal bread and all the cheaper unsalted butter had gone.
Have a medical appt in Brive-la-Gaillarde tomorrow, will be interesting to see how many people are about.
Just wish I'd got my hair cut.
There's a v long list of businesses allowed to open including computer sales, repairs, garages etc.
In the nearest village the restos are all doing take aways.

pluiedeprintemps · 22/03/2020 19:35

@newtb

Unsalted butter gone instead of salted! Barbares - what would the Bretons say!

@MickeyMouae199
Everyone knows blanquer is an arriviste prick! I hope he’s called out by the government soon

Good news Smile. Student DS has had news from his teachers. A timetable has been sent. They have been asked to contact their teachers if they have any problems with obtaining the wherewithal to follow the lessons.

Madcats · 23/03/2020 14:17

Can I ask another QN of the people "locked down"?

When you aren't allowed "to leave your house" does that mean you can't go in the garden either?

Our terraced house faces east-west and I am wondering about shoving a bench in the front garden to get more of the evening sun (yes, this is the second day of sun in Somerset!).

DD is diligently signing in to do her lesson today and then house partying her mates at break times.

crapette · 23/03/2020 14:26

Yes, we are allowed in the garden.
We have no neighbours, but I guess chatting over the fence would be frowned upon.

Frenchfancy · 23/03/2020 14:58

We are allowed in the garden, thank heavens.

Booboostwo · 23/03/2020 15:39

I can report back on medical services in France. I’ve had a cough for seven days, on day 4 I had one temperature spike at 38.8 and I have a very congested nose (and disgusting mucus). Last night I had trouble breathing lying down so I didn’t sleep at all. I called my GP today expecting to be told to ride it out but he absolutely insisted I come in to be seen. He is spacing all his patients so that no one is waiting and as of tomorrow all the doctors in our local town are banding together to hold a coughing and other COVID symptoms surgery in the local hall every afternoon where anyone can drop in. That way they can separate their COVID from other patients. He thinks I probably have it, but it is mild and they are not testing mild cases at the moment.

He was only wearing a mask, no other protective gear, IMO that seemed inadequate but he seemed at ease. I did not see anyone else on my way there and back and did not touch anything outside the examination room. I was also asked to wear a mask.

BurneyFanny · 23/03/2020 16:42

DH's uncle and aunt have it. They are in the at risk age group, just, but are at home so far.

kersh33 · 23/03/2020 16:44

Thanks for the report @Booboostwo. Hope you feel better soon.

Just as a question because I have heard this as a request a couple of times when going to see doctors - where did you get a mask from? You can't get them for love nor money here!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 23/03/2020 19:57

Are you able to take shopping to family who are self isolating. I'm finding it so hard not to see my mum 😐

danni0509 · 23/03/2020 20:04

Are dentists open? Emergency dentists?

Thanks x

kersh33 · 23/03/2020 20:05

@Dickorydockwhatthe Going out to assist vulnerable people is a valid reason to leave the house.

We are shopping for DH's parents so that they don't have to leave the house. But we leave the shopping outside the front door, move away across the road and ring them to let them know. We get a wave from the door but that's it. We talk on the phone regularly though.

kersh33 · 23/03/2020 20:07

@danni0509 Dentists are closed. If you have an emergency you can leave a message on my dentists answering phone and someone will let you know where to go.

I haven't tested it, but suspect it'd probably be the hospital for emergency dental work.

Frenchfancy · 23/03/2020 20:26

My dentist and the orthodontist are seeing emergency cases. Our normal appointment got moved. DH had an appointment last week. It is now in October.

pluiedeprintemps · 23/03/2020 21:06

@Booboostwo
Prends soin de toi ! Bon Courage.

Karwomannghia · 23/03/2020 21:07

Karwomannghia · 23/03/2020 21:08
