Will you still visit pubs & cafes?

Today's advice seems so vague, we've been told to avoid these places yet they haven't been told to close, do they expect pubs to still open and have staff just standing there with no customers?

On my local Facebook page there have already been posts from 4 local pubs and cafés saying they will still be opening and have very strict hygiene standards.

I feel so sorry for the landlords and staff.

I have been until tonight's announcement. Honestly do t know what to do for the best

I think a lot will close of their own accord now.

We went out yesterday to local out of town shopping park/cinema complex place. It's usually chock-full on the weekend, can't get parked, waiting ages to get a seat in restaurants etc. But yesterday, the bowling alley was much quieter, Pizza hut was really quiet and the cinema car park was barren by 5pm.

This was obviously before the announcement. So it's only going to get worse now. I'm very much carrying on regardless, I have to still work and the kids will go to school until we're told otherwise. But even still, I'm not going to bother with much outside of that right now.

What gets me is the advice to avoid close spaces, advice to work from home, advice to socially isolate.

Half the kids and staff will be off, it won’t be worth opening them anyway.

Me either, I'm on the edge of a small town and have several country pubs within a 5 minute drive, they're not the kind of places that get packed but rely more on the food side of things.

I'm in a low risk category and have no underlying health conditions and unsure whether to still go and be even more vigilant with hand washing and not touching my face etc.

The schools not shutting yet is to keep frontline staff able to work, e.g. NHS etc. It is really harsh on the owners on cafes etc, but this is to SAVE LIVES. These circumstances are absolutely unprecedented.

I think schools will shut, but it will be a cost-benefit decision.

It is my son's 16th birthday on Friday. He has plans with friends and we were meant to be going out to dinner but will cancel all plans.

Feel for him but will make it up to him when all this is over.

I won't but seen lots on Facebook say their still going out.

I wouldn’t expect a business to shut if they can’t afford to. Boris isn’t going to pay their wages is he.
I can’t understand why supermarkets are not restricted. There were far more people in the supermarket all within close proximity than there will be in cafes and restaurants.
I’m not planning on going anywhere except work, unfortunately I can’t work from home.

They won't be able to afford to stay open with no customers. And yet they won't be able to claim on insurance if they close "voluntarily". It's a dick move from Boris (and I've been broadly on board with the government's approach thus far, despite loathing its politics with every fibre of my being...)

it’s pretty clear that they don’t want to tell them to close as then they’ll be responsible for helping them out with state aid or benefits for staff like other countries are doing. They’re trying to get them to make the decision themselves then the government has no culpability. I have to say the entire Uk response has been outrageously bad.

My school has no plans to shut until gov instructs it.
I don’t trust Boris one bit.

Children of frontline workers could be cared for as done currently in France to still enable their parents to go to work, so this is not a valid argument.

Didn't before to be fair, pubs are grim and cafes are not my thing especially greasy spoon builder cafes.

The advice is to avoid non essential social contact.

We’re avoiding going out. Kids are still at school (I also work in a school). But we’re staying home. We don’t tend to frequent cafes, pubs, cinemas and bowling as the kids have coeliac and one has autism and really struggles to go to those places anyway. I feel very sorry for business owner.

No. I will follow the advice not to.

Don't go to the pub.

Landlords have minds of their own. They don't need to be told to close.

Just follow the advice. That's all you have to do. Not that hard to understand. And you might save a life.

Unless my work cancel my visits, I have absolutely no choice but to visit public places to wash my hands 😡.

I’m so cross that a friend of DS’s birthday party is going ahead this weekend. We are following the advice and won’t be going, everyone else is sending their food choices in. Don’t people watch the news? Or don’t they care?
