They say everyone with symptoms should be tested. And this along isolation.

They also said that people who have it can be contagious for 2 weeks AFTER they feel well.

So I'm sure Boris will be along soon to confirm what the uk are doing.

Jesus. Christ.

Briefing starting now...

notangelinajolie · 16/03/2020 16:53

So we are ignoring the WHO because we know better.

What the hell?

My DD is a teacher and is on the verge of walking out of her job/career today. I spent an hour on the phone to her this morning persuading her to go in when all I wanted to do was tell her the opposite She is bloody terrified.

Boris better have something good to say this afternoon.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/03/2020 16:55

I pulled my immune suppressed kid from school last Wednesday.

He's not going back.

No faith in the guidance at all, and it's too much of a risk. We are staying home.

Moominmamma33 · 16/03/2020 16:57

Posting and hoping it's reassuring for those who have children, that it is still true that age is by far the biggest risk factor if you look at the figures. Very, very few children have died, it only mentions children dying on the video, not babies, by the way. A really tiny proportion of victims have been in the youngest age group. Children or younger people are at slightly higher risk of complications than others in their age group if they have a suppressed immune system or pre-existing medical issues such as asthma. It's a tragedy that anyone dies of this of course, whatever their age.

SerendipityJane · 16/03/2020 16:57

The social unrest if it turns out that people who disregarded official advice fared better than those that followed it doesn't bear thinking about.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 16:57

The fact that it does cause the death of children terrified me. I had thought it didn't and have been saying that.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/03/2020 16:58

It has struck me that it would be very useful to know who's had it so that some people can emerge back into the community to help and to kick start the green shoots of economic recovery.

I find it interesting that MPs are getting tested even though not ill enough to warrant hospitalisation. Funny that.

Also, given that there seem to be some horrid viruses doing the rounds this year, isn't it possible that people could think they've had it when they haven't?

ameliethree · 16/03/2020 16:58

BJ press conference... 😧

willowpatterns · 16/03/2020 16:58

I suspect there simply isn't the capacity for everyone to be tested - path labs mus be at breaking point already. There are only so many tests that can be done a day.

StillbreathingStillhere · 16/03/2020 16:59

So basically the same as the last press conference.

EmergencyPractitioner · 16/03/2020 16:59

I have mild symptoms following seeing a suspicious case last week and work in A&E. I have not been able to access testing today despite trying hard. I can't understand why they are not testing health workers like me to track infections and also to test for antibodies in the future, so those who have them can look after the infectious patients in the longer term.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 16:59

@SerendipityJane Sadly that is what happened with Grenfell Tower. Those who got out when they could (I know not everyone could) rather than stay in, were the ones who survived. Same as 9/11. Those who got out survived, those who followed official advice to stay in died.

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 17:00

I’m a teacher. I have a dreadful cough so I’m staying at home.

Apparently 25% of the children were off today. I expect that to rise.
Which makes a mockery of it all. If more than half of the children aren’t in there there is little point in doing the planned work. No point in teaching a new concept for half the class to miss it.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 16/03/2020 17:00

Did he just say everyone in a household with someone with symptoms for 14 days now? I swear I heard that but school just sent out something saying 7

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:00

@willowpatterns other countries are managing it.Is the UK somehow much more incompetent than anywhere else?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 16/03/2020 17:01

Patrick Vallance just confirmed 14

StillbreathingStillhere · 16/03/2020 17:02

Rambling bollocks

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:03

@Moominmamma33 It really is not reassuring that very few children die if it is your children. There are mothers on this forum with children with all kind of health issues that makes them vulnerable.

Look at time 16.26 Test, test, test

SerendipityJane · 16/03/2020 17:04

@SerendipityJane Sadly that is what happened with Grenfell Tower.

But in the case of COVID, there will be a plethora of comparators. If families that ignored Boris and kept their kids off school against official advice see less infection and deaths than families that did as the government said, we could see some very nasty scenes directed at the powers that be.

Bear in mind we'll have international comparators too ...

doubleshotespresso · 16/03/2020 17:04

Where was it mentioned that babies or children have died please?

Poppy1968 · 16/03/2020 17:05

the bottom bullet point states: Although those aged over 60 are most at risk, children have also died from Covid-19

Katri999 · 16/03/2020 17:05

Oh this just goes from bad to worse

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:06

@notangelinajolie I would just let her walk out. The government is not protecting us.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:08

@SerendipityJane Yes imagine if your child was one of those who died after the government assuring you that children only get mild symptoms. Bloody hell I would want to murder Boris myself.
