They say everyone with symptoms should be tested. And this along isolation.

They also said that people who have it can be contagious for 2 weeks AFTER they feel well.

So I'm sure Boris will be along soon to confirm what the uk are doing.

Jesus. Christ.

I was just watching this. The U.K. measures don’t match those recommendations. I wonder if things will change now.

Pumpkintopf · 16/03/2020 16:12

Can you link to this please- have looked on the WHO website but not sure where to find it. Thanks

Snowflakes1122 · 16/03/2020 16:13

Why aren’t the U.K. following WHO advise? This sounds pretty obvious and a good idea by them Confused

Snowflakes1122 · 16/03/2020 16:13

Advice*

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2020 16:14

It’s literally just happened. It might not be up yet.

Cherrypie32 · 16/03/2020 16:14

‘Test, test, test’ was the over riding message. That and the 14 day isolation. These points will have to be addressed today surely.

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 16/03/2020 16:14

It said WHO have neww guidelines for children and pregnant women, does anyone know if Ican find them online? I'm pregnant and getting anxious Sad

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 16/03/2020 16:15

It's ongoing now on. The DG sounded almost apoplectic that there wasn't testing of those with symptoms going on. Something tells me Boris press conference won't have anything that is near what who are suggesting

fretaway · 16/03/2020 16:15

I hope the UK are going to follow the WHO’s guidelines now. They’ve made it pretty clear.

Otherwise how do you know who should isolate and who shouldn’t?

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/03/2020 16:16

It’s like the UK’s response to this is absolutely bonkers.

golightlytoday · 16/03/2020 16:16

14 days isolation isn't enough. You can be contagious for 14 days AFTER you feel well.

The press conference is on going. BBC cut away from it

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/03/2020 16:18

Meant to write ‘The UK’s response to this is absolutely bonkers’. It’s like they’re just ignoring all the advice! We pay the wages of these clowns!

ameliethree · 16/03/2020 16:18

Test, test, test they stress.

Also said this is a serious illness and does affect children and has caused the death of children. I completely understand that what we have been told so far is that this is mild for children, however when this was growing in Wuhan, I think the children were off school on holiday anyway, and then the school holidays were extended. Could this have possibly skewed the stats? I’m not scaremongering, but if we are so in opposition to WHO guidance and what many other countries are doing globally, we really, really must have more evidence.
I don’t understand why universities and colleges can’t be closed. There is not the issue of childcare here. Campuses could remain open for those who are unable to travel home, but it would surely help with social distancing.
If schools have to remain open, they also need to address the issue of children being carriers and bringing the virus home to parents who may be vulnerable with underlying health issues.

Bloody hell.

ameliethree · 16/03/2020 16:19

Press conference is live now on Sky News - Cobra meeting is happening now, so unlikely they’re going to do anything new in relation to it.

LittleSwede · 16/03/2020 16:20

It's live on sky news now. It's making me feel sick. Then Boris will be on straight after at 4:45 with a totally contradictory message Shock

CaptainBrickbeard · 16/03/2020 16:21

It’s very worrying that they have warned this is more dangerous to children than we have been led to believe. I can’t understand the U.K. approach at all - especially wrt testing, it’s insane.

LittleSwede · 16/03/2020 16:21

'It's the containment strategy which is showing a slow down' - Thedros words just now

TheQueef · 16/03/2020 16:22

Boris will hold off until he's had the outcome of cobra revised.

Pumpkintopf · 16/03/2020 16:23

Thanks golightly

DippyAvocado · 16/03/2020 16:23

I was just watching this. The U.K. measures don’t match those recommendations. I wonder if things will change now.

They won't. There are enough people who value the economy over lives to support the current UK plan of doing bugger all. This view won't change until people see that the NHS is overwhelmed and start losing their own loved ones, by which time it will already be too late for us to implement a widespread testing regime. That advice is probably aimed at countries with lower levels of infected so far. The genie is well and truly out of the bottle in the UK. Plus, I detect an air of scepticism from some about these international experts. We Brits seem to have a special type of science that applies only to us.

AutumnCrow · 16/03/2020 16:24

Our UK strategy is being run on the back of Dominic Cummings' obsession with Game Theory.

Boris Johnson needs to wake up. He's supposed to be running a country, not helping his mate play Fortnite Meets Contagion.

DBML · 16/03/2020 16:25

So we’re not:

Testing everyone
Isolating people appropriately
Using harsh enough social distancing measures
Doing what other countries are doing....

....but....
I don’t give two hoots because the U.K. government scientists know best.

StitchInLime · 16/03/2020 16:25

He said children and babies have died. I have read nothing to suggest this. Why are we only just learning this?!
