For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

I'm expecting an Ocado delivery in the next hour. I've had the confirmatory email, with two sensible substitutions.

That also sounds promising! I managed to get onto the site this morning to edit my order after waiting about 10 minutes in their virtual queue. Once I got in the site was running fine, although the items you’d expect to be out of stock were (anti bacterial soap, rice). I just hope that it all turns up now!

ticking · 16/03/2020 14:06

I don't know if anyone has already commented this but Ocado systems had a massive meltdown this morning.

The website is down as are their warehouse systems and their phone systems (or they were first thing!)

I did get my order - it arrived 4 hours late! but they will have to cancel a load of orders to get back on track.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 14:07

It may have been mentioned!

justasking111 · 16/03/2020 14:19

Ocado said it was struggling last week. Best to go shopping.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/03/2020 14:22

I think all these people saying “oh, let’s order for family/neighbours too” are part of the problem (along with staff shortages I expect). If drivers are having to deliver massive orders it’s going to take double the time and some aren’t going to get anything as a result. It’s madness.

The supermarkets need to start seriously rationing now. It’s not fair that some people are selfishly stockpiling and leaving nothing for others who may be vulnerable.
Today at the supermarket I took what I needed for the next week or so, that’s it.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 14:24

I agree to a certain extent. Ive already said upthread i think this is the problem so better to arrange a separate slot. I can see them withdrawing the service eventually, they won’t run at a loss.

apricotnuts · 16/03/2020 14:29

An sorry to hear that. If it is of comfort to others my Ocado shop arrived earlier today, only one v minor substitution, fine milled oatcakes for rough grain!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/03/2020 14:38

shesgot but if those family members can't get out, and you can but can't visit them because you risk transmitting the virus to them, how is it being part of the problem? If you give up your own slot to a family member, then it's not adding extra demand. I'd rather go without so my 90 year old gran can eat - I have a full freezer, and can manage for these two weeks while I stay away in case I develop anything, but she can't.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/03/2020 14:57

AndNoneForGretchen

I’m talking about the poster for instance who said she’s taking orders over the garden fence from her entire street! Give your slot to someone else who needs it more or order a few extra items - fine. But having a free for all and doubling/tripling your order coz you’ve managed to get a slot and your neighbours/family haven’t is only going to cause problems (as we are seeing on this thread). I have a slot booked for next week but I’m not holding my breath!

goingoverground · 16/03/2020 14:58

My Ocado delivery slot was supposed to be 1-2pm today. I've just received a text to say "Sorry in ADVANCE, but some deliveries might run late today; we'll be in touch when we have more information." No receipt with substitutions and the name of the driver either.

TheGreatWave · 16/03/2020 15:02

I will keep you posted too, mine is due 7-8, so hopeful it will turn up. They haven't been delivering up here long, so possibly don't have a huge customer base especially if they are suspending new accounts.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/03/2020 15:05

shesgot ah, I missed that post. That is clearly unreasonable. A few neighbours banding together to meet the £40 minimum delivery charge - fine. A few neighbours ordering over £600 worth of stuff and panic buying - not fine
.

Therealjudgejudy · 16/03/2020 15:07

@MummyPop00 what if Johnny whatever is also someone with disabled family??

Your attitude is vile

ifIwerenotanandroid · 16/03/2020 15:07

I just put an order into Superdrug & it wouldn't go through & all their chat was down.

The shop was pretty much normal when DH was there yesterday.

goingoverground · 16/03/2020 15:11

An update, the website is now showing my 1-2pm delivery as being on the way to arrive in the next hour. Still no receipt. Hopefully that suggests if you haven't been told your delivery is cancelled, it will arrive at some point.

Teacaketotty · 16/03/2020 15:12

I got my Tesco delivery this morning, a few subs but nothing out of the ordinary - even got the sacred toilet roll!

Drivemybluecar · 16/03/2020 15:22

It read the entire thread. But I have just got back from Tesco and it is empty. So not surprised.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 16/03/2020 15:23

Just nipped to Waitrose as it's the only one I can get to on the bus, without a million changes. Shelves are pretty stripped. Expecting Morrisons tomorrow (fingers crossed) but wanted to get some staples in, just in case, like sausages. Got plenty of veg and don't really eat carbs, so no pasta, rice or bread needed thank goodness, but had to get eggs from the One Stop.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/03/2020 15:24

7 items not available from Asda,3 subs.It supposed to be arriving in the next 10 minutes

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2020 15:29

Morrisons app wasn’t working properly either but is ok if you use the website.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 16/03/2020 15:30

My Ocado shop was a due tomorrow morning. I hope it comes now

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/03/2020 15:31

My Ocado order arrived well within the delivery slot. Everything there. Delivery chap said they can't come in any more, so he unloaded into my porch.

MissSmiley · 16/03/2020 15:33

I had my Tesco delivery this morning, on time, 6 substitutions but sensible ones, I've booked next week ok

Parahebe · 16/03/2020 15:44

For those asking, yes my supermarket order this afternoon is from Ocado. Fingers crossed it arrives - I have had no further communication from them, it's still 'on its way', it isn't due just yet. Will update later.

I'm in the South East, I believe the vans come from the Dartford site.

Westfacing · 16/03/2020 15:45

Yesterday my Ocado delivery was half an hour early and two sensible substitutions. I had the usual text a few hours beforehand so was hopeful!

I managed to finally get on to the website this morning to place another order for 10 days time. I'm very sorry for those whose orders have been totally cancelled - very frustrating. It's pot-luck.

They're not taking on any new customers, if that's any consolation.
