For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

That's odd and worrying for Ocado. They only deliver from warehouses so are really good at managing to only allow orders of stuff they know they'll have in stock at the time your order is due to be picked.

I wouldn't bother ordering from anyone else at the moment. They all pick from stores which do that anything in them, so chances of getting what you order delivered are minute.

Vallderama · 16/03/2020 10:13

@MummyPop00 a lot of the Johnny come latelies are people who have to self isolate and mostly not new customers but just new to online shopping . Hmm

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 10:16

I wonder if there were so many people trying to edit orders with Ocado yesterday who couldn’t get on and when the cut off time came they saw that there were orders obviously not complete so not worth sending out. I know that I usually hold a slot with champagne so if I couldn’t get on to amend I wouldn’t just want that delivered.

venusandmars · 16/03/2020 10:18

We're part of a local veg box and farm shop scheme, have been for years. They have just announced that they are not taking on any new customers after a 3-fold rise in new orders in the last week. So people who have been happily buying their green beans from Peru or Kenya, their tomatoes from Spain, their chicken from Thailand are now looking to small local suppliers to sort out their panic.

Fortunately the veg company are prioritising the 'usual' orders of long-standing customers (so not if we suddenly start adding in extra items).

Maybe, at the end of all of this, some of the new customers will have converted long term to buying local and seasonal...

*Re: home shopping.

Think companies should prioritise long term customers who pay yearly upfront (like us). Been with Asda paying this way for the last 3 years.

Pissed off that I’m fighting for slots with Johnny come lately all of a sudden & will be emailing them to say so. One typical weekly shop, that’s all I need, I’m not asking a lot and ordering 300x dried pasta every other day like all the loons*

That's very caring of you isn't it? You're lucky in that you have the money to pay upfront for delivery. Many families I have worked with wouldn't be able to afford this, nor would they be able to afford to buy more than the absolute minimum amounts.
In this situation, we should be supporting each other and not just thinking of ourselves selfishly. Shame on you.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 10:20

Maybe those of us who have slots should be asking neighbours and friends if we can add items for them, we’re doing that.

HopelessLayout · 16/03/2020 10:22

Sainsbury's doesn't have any delivery slots. As I discovered when I went to check out after selecting all my shopping.

fishonabicycle · 16/03/2020 10:22

I've just been on the Ocado website and its fine - got what I needed (normal order as I refuse to be part of the problem).

RosesandIris · 16/03/2020 10:23

I have just looked at online delivery and there are no delivery slots at all for the foreseeable future. All three supermarkets I went to yesterday had many bare shelves including fresh produce. The world has gone mad. It is really quite disturbing. We haven't stockpiled and are now regretting it. Genuinely wondering what we can have for dinner

20Newnames · 16/03/2020 10:23

Sainsburys also cancelled a whole delivery last night with a couple of hours notice. Just normal groceries, nothing odd.

RosesandIris · 16/03/2020 10:23

What are elderly people supposed to do if they can't get food delivered and they aren't allowed to go out?

Sweatheart · 16/03/2020 10:23

Think companies should prioritise long term customers who pay yearly upfront (like us).

Oh sod off. If anyone should be prioritised it should be those in isolation.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 10:23

Rookie error @hopelesslayout. Always choose the slot first.

Bathroom12345 · 16/03/2020 10:24

Soon - couldn’t agree more re your comments. That is exactly what the staff are fighting against. Stupid entitled people who think they should be first. Equivalent of ‘don’t you know who I am’.

My old mum has been going to her local supermarket looking for loo rolls for the last week and the shelves are bare. She doesn’t complain, just keeps going with her walker.

Still, at least you are ok.....

Just made a 70 mile trip to deliver some to her after she told me in tears

ElfDragon · 16/03/2020 10:24

Ocado website has a virtual queue operating, and also states that due to high demand they are currently prioritising existing registered customers over new customers trying to register.

I normally leave editing my shop (have had a reserved slot for years, been an Ocado customer since dd1 (now 16) was a baby) until the day before its due, but now make sure it’s done earlier in the week.

Hopefully they will sort everything out soon - I have 3 disabled children and ‘popping’ to the shops has never been an option for us at the best of times, let alone now.

toptomatoes · 16/03/2020 10:24

Our Saturday evening Tesco shop was cancelled on Saturday due to staff shortages. Luckily they told us in the morning so we could go to the shop. It was just a normal shop, not 27 billion loo rolls.

eeeyoresmiles · 16/03/2020 10:25

For Ocado, isn't it more likely to be drivers self-isolating, than them not having stock unexpectedly having had it at the point you checked out? Good idea for neighbours to 'share' slots by putting things in for each other.

Nanasueathome · 16/03/2020 10:26

I’m due my regular weekly delivery from Ocado tomorrow.
Website says in a virtual queue.
I dint need to amend so will wait and see
Have just checked Waitrose and their website is not available

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/03/2020 10:27

I've checked my asda order that's coming between 3 and 4 today and it all seems ok so far

FallonSwift · 16/03/2020 10:29

Think companies should prioritise long term customers who pay yearly upfront (like us).

So you'd rather that people who should be self-isolating end up going to a supermarket out of desperation because they have no supplies, just so that you can protect your 'early adopter' status?

What an odd and selfish attitude - you do realise that paying in advance doesn't make you better than anyone else?

EveLevine · 16/03/2020 10:29

@MummyPop00 Asda actually have a system allowing delivery pass holders to reserve the same slot every week, and Ocado also do similiar - Ocado even do the order for you!

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 10:30

Whenever I go to the Ocado app it doesn't connect. I can't even place an order.

The Ocado app has been taken off line for the moment. There was an email to tell everyone that.
They aren’t taking on new customers at the moment.
I went to edit my order yesterday and there was a queue. I got through quicker than they said and everything I wanted was in stock.

Spacie · 16/03/2020 10:30

I will certainly be offering my slot to my elderly neighbours if they reappear. But I'm beginning to think they have gone away to their families. Obviously my Mum gets hers, but yesterday when asked for a list all she wanted was pickled herring and coffee.

Bluejuicyapple · 16/03/2020 10:30

I did a Tesco click and collect. There were a few substitutions but generally I got a good order

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 16/03/2020 10:31

My Ocado order has just been cancelled. 15 years I’ve been with them. Pissed off
