For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

To update my own post, it would seem that Ocado's Twitter team haven't been advised what the actual problem has been this morning, so they know as much as us customers ie 'operational'.

SquirrelInTheOak · 16/03/2020 13:21

Parahebe would you update when you've received it please?

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 16/03/2020 13:25

mummypop I don’t think people who can pay upfront to have shopping delivered for a year should be a priority at all. Try people with disabilities, those who are self isolating, the elderly, pregnant women. Money shouldn’t be a priority - need should.

ChessIsASport · 16/03/2020 13:25

My Ocado order came today. I was expecting problems but it was early and virtually nothing missing. I am in the South East. I wonder if some areas are lower on stock than others. I didn’t really order anything that would be low stock though. Mostly fresh food and some frozen.

Thinkingabout1t · 16/03/2020 13:31

All these problems caused by people being stupid and greedy. People are going to need to look out for each other.

I wish I had some useful advice to offer. Locally we have people offering help online via Nextdoor and social media, so it's worth looking there.

Those who are worrying about older relatives living at a distance, can you sign up for their local online network and organise help for them that way?

Best of luck to everyone.

DobbyLovesSocks · 16/03/2020 13:32

@madcatladyforever I had to read your post twice - it sounded like you were going to resort to eating cat food Grin

Devlesko · 16/03/2020 13:34

I think soon all online orders will be reserved for the elderly and other at risk groups.
I think you'll just have to go and queue like everyone else.
I've heard a few say they were struggling with home delivery.

BarbedBloom · 16/03/2020 13:37

I am worried about my order on Wednesday. It is just my usual stuff. I am immune suppressed with asthma and have mobility issues due to RA so can't go to the shops. What family I do have are also self isolating due to their age or being in a vulnerable group and friends live too far away.

There is no point asking my neighbors. They are not pleasant and many of them aren't even here

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 13:40

Yes, good point about adding addresses to your account, you are the bill payer but the delivery can usually be to anyone.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 16/03/2020 13:42

I have a standard delivery due today from Ocado: no emails or texts (and no reminder yesterday that my editing deadline was approaching) and I've not been able to log on today or yesterday: had the window open since about 10am and still about 2/3 way through loading. I'm anticipating no delivery at this stage...

Gwenhwyfar · 16/03/2020 13:47

There's plenty of foods in the shops near me. Certain things are missing, but most things are fine.

bobstersmum · 16/03/2020 13:48

I had asda this morning, some things missing but nothing much.

Onceuponatimethen · 16/03/2020 13:49

My Ocado also completely cancelled - feel close to tears

Illberidingshotgun · 16/03/2020 13:54

I don't think everyone who has a larger than normal online delivery is being selfish, some of it may be that we are also ordering for others too. Last week mine from Tesco was a couple of crates bigger than normal, because my Mum's shopping was also in that order (I normally take her shopping but she is self-isolating due to health problems).

If Tesco stop delivering for any reason I could be absolutely stuck, as will she.

GroggyLegs · 16/03/2020 13:54

Thetigeronthewobbelboard

Absolutely agree.

I'm grateful I'm able to do my own shopping. Someone vulnerable or ill is welcome to my click & collect slot.

TheStuffedPenguin · 16/03/2020 13:57

I have a Tesco order later this afternoon - fingers crossed.

biwinoone · 16/03/2020 13:59

My most of Iceland shop was cancelled and I had to go to the shops today to get the essential items. Iceland was almost bare with long queues at all tills. I as told that they get the stock at 11pm and people start gathering outside at 7am. I couldn't find most of the things there but managed to find most of them at the local shops. So do check if you have cash and carries, best one or nisa local type of stores as they still are well stocked.

cantdothisnow1 · 16/03/2020 13:59

We set up a new Waitrose delivery for my inlaws who are in there 80s and likely to be asked to self isolate soon. They have no family locally to them. I suspect a lot of the new traffic will be similar arrangements being made.

I use Ocado, normally excellent, I do hope I can get on the site at some point today as I want to cancel my order for Wednesday as I don't really need it.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/03/2020 13:59

I'm expecting an Ocado delivery in the next hour. I've had the confirmatory email, with two sensible substitutions. I did try all day yesterday to update the order but was unable to get on to the site before the cut off time.

Managed to get on at 2am and booked deliveries for next two weeks.

The phone line is down and there's a message saying to email if you need to contact them.

Crimson72 · 16/03/2020 13:59

Yes, I am, late afternoon. I've just had the usual email and text to say they are on their way, with no missing items. They are also bring a Fetch order which has one missing item.

That sounds promising @Parahebe! Is it from Ocado? Yes, please update us later.

Puddleduck42 · 16/03/2020 13:59

Why are they cancelling these deliveries then?

noidea02 · 16/03/2020 14:00

Yep mine for this afternoon also cancelled. Just my normal weekly shop. No extras or stockpiling. I was able to go to the supermarket just now but the shelves were nearly empty! I’m now worried the same will happen to my elderly parents and in-laws. It’s a massive failure on Ocado’s part.

Astrabees · 16/03/2020 14:02

I am working long hours in social care helping older people. I have an ocado reserved slot every week, when they deliver an identical order each week unless i change it. It has been generated this week and i have an email saying it will be delivered on Friday. In doing this i am mot trekking around Aldi, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose buying up stuff that would be better left for someone more vulnerable and I can save any more stress being added into my life, which is stressful enough already. I din't think this can go on for much longer, surely the irresponsible hoarders will run out of time and money before much longer.

willowpatterns · 16/03/2020 14:02

I can't say I'm surprised if they are all having operational issues to be honest.

Can't be helped, can it?

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 14:03

But if they don't have enough vans or drivers what are they to do?
