For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

Well given the concerts and marathons going on across the UK yesterday we may as well all just throw street parties and everyone bring a dish or two to share. UThe UK is going to be a great test case for the rest of the world to get reams of statistics on just how bad the virus actually is.

MaggieFS · 16/03/2020 12:42

@DameXanaduBramble Assuming an average revenue and profit per cubic space per item, it's actually more profitable for them to make fewer drops per van, because of lower fuel costs and less man hours per delivery.

Oopsy41 · 16/03/2020 12:44

I've just had mine but it was only half of what I ordered. There was no fruit, meat, eggs or veg so still going to have to go out anyway. I was trying to be sensible and mix with as few people as possible but systems can't obviously cope with the increase in people ordering. It's hard to know what to do for the best

Ontheboardwalk · 16/03/2020 12:44

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 I’ve not received my confirmation e-mail yet either. Am getting worried now.

It just says they are preparing my order on the website

SilverySurfer · 16/03/2020 12:50

I only tried Ocado once when they failed to deliver and customer service was non existent, so pleased I've stayed with Tesco and/or Waitrose, neither of whom have failed me. As I'm disabled and don't drive, I rely on the deliveries. I've booked dates much further ahead than usual with both of them and fingers crossed they will arrive without too many items missing.

If stupid people stopped panic buying, there would be sufficient for everyone.

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 12:50

@Bloomburger. Does your phone/iPad remember your password for you? You should be able to find it through that.

millerjane · 16/03/2020 12:55

Consider Indian/Asian supermarkets - we went to one and they were fully stocked. A lot of essentials come in huge quantaties also.

TheGreatWave · 16/03/2020 12:55

All being well my Ocado order should turn up, I have had the initial text plus just now the text giving can details. I think at the moment it comes from Birmingham to Leeds and then up to the NE.

It is a big shop but a significant proportion is a heater (if we have to self isolate in the conservatory) and art stuff for dd's birthday.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 16/03/2020 12:55

Think companies should prioritise long term customers who pay yearly upfront (like us). Been with Asda paying this way for the last 3 years. Pissed off that I’m fighting for slots with Johnny come lately all of a sudden & will be emailing them to say so. One typical weekly shop, that’s all I need, I’m not asking a lot and ordering 300x dried pasta every other day like all the loons

Wow!
I really hope I don't know you in real life.

One weekly shop is all most people need.
Cop yourself on.

Indiemeg · 16/03/2020 12:56

Just tried to order my weekly Sainsbury’s delivery. No slots for the next two weeks as well.I try again later in case it’s a glitch!

Ontheboardwalk · 16/03/2020 13:00

Just got my receipt mail from Ocado. Everything being delivered, including toilet roll and pasta, with no substitutes. I can relax now

Hope other people’s deliveries turn up

snowegg · 16/03/2020 13:01

Got my Ocado order this morning, no substitutions. Had to edit it in the early hours of Sunday though. Good job I seem to have insomnia right now. I think the issue is likely to be where they have drivers off.

madcatladyforever · 16/03/2020 13:05

I'm buying loads of cat food online. I'm on the exante diet and this box is good for a whole month so that's me sorted, I can't cheat if there is no food in the house.
But I'm buggered if I'm going to be isolated with a hungry cat who doesn't have any volume control.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 13:07

@Cam77 I know. The UK will provide lots of material for research papers for many years to come. Crazy.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 13:08

And those people buying a bit extra knew what would happen.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 13:09

@MaggieFS. It’s not about whether it’s better, its about having the resources to do it at all!

OneHanded · 16/03/2020 13:10

It’s a worry. I’m disabled so can’t do it any other way anyway.

chicken2015 · 16/03/2020 13:11

Just got my email been cancelled, just normal shop , now need to brave the supermarket 😬 a lot of food was for my autistic daughter who is quite limited so quite specific 😣

Marpan · 16/03/2020 13:15

Well Waitrose pitched with mine missing half of the items and replacing for example a 3 pack of baby wipes with 1 nivea make up wipes. ???

It’s generally hard to shop with my one year old let alone right now.

theneverendinglaundry · 16/03/2020 13:15

Ocado messaged me this morning saying my delivery will be up to 5 hours late, but miraculously no substitutes, so I'm not complaining.

I've been with ocado for 2 years, they are usually pretty good but are clearly struggling to deal with the madness.

I hope everyone calms down soon.

annielennoxstuckinmyhead · 16/03/2020 13:16

My Asda delivery just didn't bother turning up yesterday evening. After 60 mins on hold all they did was apologise and say it never was coming due to lack of lorries. My kids went without over night. 😞

Mrsmadevans · 16/03/2020 13:16

Plenty of stock in all my local supermarkets of everything except hand gel. Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi, Iceland. Am in Monmouthshire Smile

annielennoxstuckinmyhead · 16/03/2020 13:18

Oh and I didn't even get a notification either. No call, no email and no text. I sat up waiting until 10pm

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 13:18

I’ve been with Ocado for over ten years.
I get a delivery each week. I’ve only ever had a couple of deliveries cancelled or disrupted.

Parahebe · 16/03/2020 13:20

Is anyone due a delivery later today?

Yes, I am, late afternoon. I've just had the usual email and text to say they are on their way, with no missing items. They are also bring a Fetch order which has one missing item.
