To feel scared and embarrassed to live in the U.K. right now?

We have a PM who is an arrogant muppet who really only cares about himself and doesn’t give a toss about anyone else.

Wes don’t have respirators, oxygen, or even basic medical equipment. The government knew this and should have started doing something two months ago when it all kicked off.

How is hand washing going to help my daughter who has to get a crowded bus to school, with people coughing and sneezing into her face.

Sorry for cutting off some of Germany and Lithuania's bed capacity to fit it in!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 16/03/2020 00:33

Like all the other countries have enough equipment hey? Look at Italy, they are not coping now, France and Spain are heading towards the same

knowing that all these countries have a lot more equipment, them not copying shouldn't make you feel any better. We are even less able to deal with it! How is that a positive for you?!?

Fieldofgreycorn · 16/03/2020 00:33

Well I don’t think BoJo is anything to be too ashamed of, look at Trump. Then the other half of the world’s countries seem to be run by mad dictators.

Re the virus yes we have too few acute beds, not enough staff and respirators. Not enough personal protection equipment. We knew this could happen after SARS etc and we are shockingly unprepared. But we’re not the only country to be in this position.

Theyrecomingtotakemeawayhaha · 16/03/2020 00:34

Oh good, let's have lots more ventilators.
And let's now manufacture the staff to operate them on people with ARDS.?

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 00:37

And let's now manufacture the staff to operate them on people with ARDS.?

Quite. I don't think may seem to get just how highly trained and specialised most ITU doctors and nurses are. You can't train people overnight to do their job.

EmeraldShamrock · 16/03/2020 00:41

Like all the other countries have enough equipment hey? Look at Italy, they are not coping now, France and Spain are heading towards the same The UK and Ireland won't be long behind them. What's the plan everyone live as they are washed their hands regularly. Maybe they're thinking of the cash they'll save on pensions and nursing homes, shouldn't they be disinfecting areas, deep cleaning trains, reducing the amount of passengers per carriage, shutting schools to slow the spread. Cheltenham going ahead was an absolute joke too.

Zaza1414 · 16/03/2020 00:41

Sorry, Ive been (non coronavirus,I'll,) my ex husband took me shopping, 1st time in over a week ,I felt, and apologised for buying my regular stuff, I didn't buy hand sanitizer, but I did buy my normal loo roll, that is normally shared between very and 2 neighbours!!!

MinkowskisButterfly · 16/03/2020 00:42

@Doyoumind are you an expert in SARS -CoV-2? Have you seen it play out before hence knowing what will happen? Me neither. Nobody knows what is to happen when those under quarantine slowly lift the lockdown chances are they will have stemmed it so that if and when a second wave arrives they can be prepared. This virus is an unknown, But the experts, those who have dealt with sars and other pandemics before (ie WHO, I'm not disputing Whittys expertise in general just in this area) are advising and urging countries to go at this agressively not in a wishy washy manner as our dear PM and his sidekicks are. We are heading for Italy mark 2 here, if not worse unless we heed the warnings.

EmeraldShamrock · 16/03/2020 00:44

Well I don’t think BoJo is anything to be too ashamed of, look at Trump Two wrongs don't make a right. They look like they're related. 🤣

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/03/2020 00:44

alloutofucks are you talking about Eyam in Derbyshire? That is the only village I know of with a significant plague story who self isolated?
But they nearly all died. They isolated to prevent them giving the disease to others after it was brought back in some material.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 00:50

No I am not. Yes Eyam self sacrificed. I can't remember the name of the village, I had never heard of it until I visited the area on holiday. And in the village church is a memorial to it and a board telling you all about it. I really need to go to bed. But will ask my DP tomorrow if he can remember the name - he is sensibly asleep.

I was pretty fascinated by the Black Death at the time as I was horrified at the idea of one third of people dropping dead in 9 months. So this village always stuck in my mind.

MorganKitten · 16/03/2020 00:53

Those countries in the EU are getting financial help... and Boris is not actually helping the people. Awesome.

Justaboy · 16/03/2020 00:53

the herd immunity makes sense to me

My understanding is that herd immunity only works with a vaccine

Nope! it works when you get the illness and your body produces antibodies to it. Its easier to do with a vacine as you dont devlop the full blown illness, but as there isnt one yet and it dosent look as if there will be for a year or so then..

The good news is that another 2,500 odd people recovered in the last day in China and very few people there are devloping the illness!

MrsFezziwig · 16/03/2020 00:54

@alloutoffucks are you talking about Eyam? You may well be right about the plague not re-emerging but apart from that you have the story the wrong way round. The village self isolated because the plague in Derbyshire originated within it (from an infected bolt of cloth sent from London) and they agreed to quarantine themselves in order that it did not spread to other villages in the area. Over 200 villagers died out of a population of about 800, but even when whole families were dying the villagers did not break the quarantine.

Reading some of the comments on the Coronavirus threads when it seems that not allowing you to walk your dog or go to bingo is an infringement of your human rights, I can’t see anyone nowadays making a similar sacrifice.

Justaboy · 16/03/2020 01:01

re Eyam..

They didnt know what Bacteria were in those days, no idea! they didnt know that fleas carried it as it was alleged a roll of cloth that contained the fleas!

What someone did think was that the plauge wasnt here before outsiders turned up so if no outsiders were allowed here then the illness coundnt spread!.

And they were right, but a few cases happened untill that kicked in as it were.

That bubonic plauge was much much worse than COVID-19

Blitzen2 · 16/03/2020 01:04

I hate Boris but let’s be realistic here OP, what do you want them to do??

Nobody could have foreseen this. It’s an unprecedented fluid situation that is made worse by the way our NHS has been abused.

We are already seeing over 70’s refusing the possibility of a lockdown. People need to start taking responsibility for their own health and stop relying on others. The government won’t save us and the NHS have an impossible job to do.

Justaboy · 16/03/2020 01:06

Yep right on that Fezziwig

Read the tragic story of poor Mrs Hancock dragging her 6 children and husband to bury them:(

ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu · 16/03/2020 01:10

And if a consultant there told us not to panic why the hell would I listen to anyone here unless one of yous are a vascular or respiratory surgeon
He said it is no worse than seasonal flu

Yes it's bad but only one person has so far died In Scotland
So not any worse than normal

So you think the scientists advising Boris are lying when they stood in front of the nation on Thursday and quite clearly said it's not a flu? Do you think the WHO organisation and their experts are lying too?
If you think Boris and his scientists are lying about it being a flu because you believe your family GP instead, why fuck should everyone else have faith in their herd immunity experiment when you don't even have faith in what they say the fucking virus is?

My lung consulate told me on Monday it's very much not the flu, even the experts who disagree on how to tackle all agree it's not the fucking flu.

Anyway I'm off. I hope the coronavirus flu passes your dad by and he keeps well. I genuinely mean that. Worrying about vulnerable parents and their health is stressful and I don't wish it on anyone, Thanks for you and your dad.

Chloemol · 16/03/2020 01:12

@alloutoffucks. Must be nice to be able to predict the number of people who are going to die.

It’s people like you, bandying around figures that doesn’t help matter. Hopefully there will be a cure, then there wont be the deaths, hopefully what we do in the next few weeks will help slow it to allow a cure. Let’s hope we do t hit the worst case figures being bandied about hey? Rather than scaring people witless

feelingverylazytoday · 16/03/2020 01:18

To feel scared and embarassed to live in the U.K. right now well I can understand why you might feel scared but why would you feel embarrassed? There's good things and bad things about most countries, surely?
We will have 500,000 people die
Will we? Measures are already being put into place to keep the death rate as low as possible, by putting the most vulnerable groups into isolation. The people who are left to catch the virus are the younger healthier people who have a much better rate of survival. I would guess that will skew the deathrate downwards.

NeckPainChairSearch · 16/03/2020 01:28

Well I don’t think BoJo is anything to be too ashamed of, look at Trump. Then the other half of the world’s countries seem to be run by mad dictators

Boris Johnson is a lying, self-serving, arrogant prick. But yeah, not worse than a murderous dictator or a pathologically dishonest, narcissistic, ego-driven game show host with strong ties to Putin.

Let's not set the bar too high, eh?

Lily193 · 16/03/2020 01:31

We will have 500,000 people die

Let's see solid evidence for this please - calculations based on data in reputable scientific publications. No doubt a ridiculous figure plucked from thin air in yet another attempt to create hysteria, with absolutely nothing to back it up.

EmeraldShamrock · 16/03/2020 01:34

It seems to be spreading quickly in the republic of Ireland in terms of population there's 169 positive cases now.

feelingverylazytoday · 16/03/2020 01:37

Lol, are people really suggesting the whole of the UK self isolates? Tbat isn't the way the world works. It's too late now anyway.
The government still has the option of ordering lockdowns and other similar measures, their advisers will also be analysing what is happening around the world. They can always decide to copy what other countries are doing, or alternatively other countries might start to follow us.
