We have a PM who is an arrogant muppet who really only cares about himself and doesn’t give a toss about anyone else.

Wes don’t have respirators, oxygen, or even basic medical equipment. The government knew this and should have started doing something two months ago when it all kicked off.

How is hand washing going to help my daughter who has to get a crowded bus to school, with people coughing and sneezing into her face.

missyoumuch · 16/03/2020 00:03

@Doyoumind they also won’t have lost a huge percentage of their older population to COVID, and perhaps may benefit from warmer weather which reduces the spread and treatments/vaccines currently in development.

These are all theories, it’s not even proven that we develop long lasting immunity to this virus so UK is taking a big gamble to say the least.

MakeItRain · 16/03/2020 00:03

There might be no exit strategy for the countries in lockdown but you can guarantee it's slowing the spread and reducing even more pressure on health systems already at complete breaking point. For that reason alone we should be doing the same thing. It will buy time to enable more equipment to be built, for vaccines to be developed and tested and to, as much as is possible, spread the mass demand for hospital beds that is on its way.

I can't understand why the government seem to be sleepwalking into a complete and utter nhs crisis. That seems to be the alternative in just letting it spread like wildfire through the population.

cyclingmad · 16/03/2020 00:04

Oh christ you cannot be prepared for every bloody scenario, seriously! What if the next virus causes something else how da duck would you know what equipment to stock up on.

EmeraldShamrock · 16/03/2020 00:07

Oh christ you cannot be prepared for every bloody scenario, seriously No but if government idiots weren't constantly cutting medical funds, privatising areas they'd have the staff to pull together.

MMN123 · 16/03/2020 00:07

@aprilanne
Your fathers GP sounds very kind. He’s given your father the right advice, as that’s the best thing he can do to protect himself.

aprilanne · 16/03/2020 00:08

Well WETTHAM and everyone else who made of my spelling mistake
Sorry but as I said my father attended to see his consultant because he is due another operation on one of his stumps
.he also has copd and taking g chemo tablets for blood disorder
And if a consultant there told us not to panic why the hell would I listen to anyone here unless one of yous are a vascular or respiratory surgeon
He said it is no worse than seasonal flu

Yes it's bad but only one person has so far died In Scotland
So not any worse than normal

spongedog · 16/03/2020 00:09

I am so hoping all the arrogant people on here criticising spelling are perfect all of the time. Just horrid. If you dont like the meaning in the post fair enough - criticise that.

aprilanne · 16/03/2020 00:11

Yes both the consultant and gp gave same advice before anyone asks .

aprilanne · 16/03/2020 00:14

Maybe its us Scottish folk are hardy but everyone seems to be going around there normal business except buying the loo roll and pasta madness

Wanderlust21 · 16/03/2020 00:17

Lol aprilanne probably because we're so determined not to be like England with anything haha. 'England is panicking? Right. Sack that moira! Put those spuds down, we're going to the pub!'

MinkowskisButterfly · 16/03/2020 00:19

@SuckingDieselFella Nobody is saying the others would have done different/better. This is not a political battle' this is about following advice given by those that know pandemic patterns bèst' and that is the WHO yet our people in charge of protecting the population are failing us. Nobody is really interested in who is doing that failing' but they are concerned that the failing is happening and that as a consequence so many people will die who are not yet supposed to.

ilovesooty · 16/03/2020 00:20

Exactly @spongedog. So someone madeca spelling error. So what? Argue the point made and stop mocking the spelling ffs.

aprilanne · 16/03/2020 00:20

Exactly wanderlust21 straight from a Michael macintyre sketch
😁

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 00:20

I am really sad to hear that the consultant gave that advice.

newusername2009 · 16/03/2020 00:23

It’s so pointless criticising government - Corbyn would have been weak when strong decisions needed to be made. I don’t love boris and who knows if he is right but we’re not the only ones doing it this way - Sweden are too.

Boris has to think of the economy too because whether we like it or not economic disaster will kill people in poverty after the virus is gone. Let’s just hope that when the worst hits we will pull together like other countries have.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 00:23

In terms of an exit strategy from lockdown -

The Black Death killed a third of the population of England and Wales in 9 months. In Derbyshire all the villages were ravaged by the Black Death except 1 village that forcibly self isolated. No one caught the Black Death or died. When things died down and they started mixing with other villages and the local town again, the Black Death did not re emerge. Everyone in that village lived.

Grandmi · 16/03/2020 00:24

I so agree. As a registered nurse I am shocked at BJ assumptions!! Drs and nurses need so much training to be safe with patients on ventilators!!

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 00:25

I am really sad to hear that the consultant gave that advice.

I don't know any GP's or consultants who would be saying COVID-19 is the same as flu, and if I overheard any, I'd be reporting them.

Chloemol · 16/03/2020 00:26

Like all the other countries have enough equipment hey? Look at Italy, they are not coping now, France and Spain are heading towards the same.

This is a new virus, and like many before it’s unpredicted and takes time to get a vaccine. However what’s really different from previous ones is Social media and myths being put out as facts, they along with the papers are whipping up the fear.

If you don’t want your daughter to go to school then don’t send her.

But what’s the point in blaming the Government, they didn’t bring it in, they are doing what they think is best, and if you read the posts on her lots agree with what they are doing, lots don’t. They are looking at what the next stage is, let’s wait and see what happens over the next few days b

And before anyone starts China’s lockdown hadn’t worked as they themselves say the virus has travelled out of the lockdown area and has mutated. Italy has lockdown and more and more cases being seen

If you want to self isolate do so

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 00:26

As a registered nurse I am shocked at BJ assumptions!!

Same here, and at us not following WHO advice.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 00:27

@newusername2009 Why the assumption that those who disagree with you are Corbyn supporters? I am not. For all her faults I wish Theresa May was in charge of this crisis.

And every other country that is doing lock down and tracing will have a better economy after this mess than we will. If the government stick to its plans, then 500,000 people dying and untold numbers suffering from long term lung damage, will not be good for our economy.

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 00:27

Like all the other countries have enough equipment hey? Look at Italy, they are not coping now, France and Spain are heading towards the same

They have more than us.

aprilanne · 16/03/2020 00:29

Todayisnottuesday I am not lying if that is what you are implying
Maybe they saying what they thought maybe they thought what is the point of terrifying a elderly double amputee with chest problems and a blood disorder who knows but that is what they said

AlexanderBerry · 16/03/2020 00:29
To feel scared and embarrassed to live in the U.K. right now?
alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 00:29

@Chloemol Lets see what approach works afterwards shall we? I can assure you that China will have nowhere near the mortality rate that we will have. We will have 500,000 people die. You really think that will mean we have done better? Half a million people die?
