Covid
Would you travel to Mexico next week?
NamechangeMeH · 14/03/2020 12:32
I’ve said no. Friend has said yes.
Apparently only 12 confirmed cases (due to high Temp’s..?)
I’ve read a lot that is saying they are under reporting due to lack of testing...
4 families (potentially) going, with toddlers.
Honeyroar · 14/03/2020 12:34
No. Not because I’m worried of coronavirus, I’ve travelled loads abroad over the last few weeks, but because you’re likely to get stuck there.
Bool · 14/03/2020 12:35
If you are all fit and healthy with no underlying health issues then absolutely yes. Levels are still low. We are 2 months from the peak. We will probably catch it at some point anyway.
SapphireSalute · 14/03/2020 12:35
Er no! Why put other people at risk?
Also it might increase drastically leaving you stuck out there
AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 14/03/2020 12:36
Only if I was prepared to stay in Mexico until October.
NamechangeMeH · 14/03/2020 12:36
Further info:
No pre existing medical conditions.
Obvious problems could be having to self isolate once there, hotel etc on lockdown if anyone has symptoms, not being able to fly back, medical treatment standards, contamination risks at airport/on flight
NamechangeMeH · 14/03/2020 12:37
Wow that moved quickly (while I was posting!)
MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 14/03/2020 12:41
Are you flying direct because if you have a stop that would be via the states and won’t happen. But no, I wouldn’t go.
bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 12:48
Apparently only 12 confirmed cases
That figure will surely rocket if people keep travelling there. I wouldn't want to contribute towards that. Also, on a personal level, you don't want to get stuck there.
Delatron · 14/03/2020 12:49
If they only have a few cases then they may not let you in? Or you’d have to self isolate there for 2 weeks. Or you could get stuck there.
Things are changing daily. Who’d have thought all flights would be banned from most European countries to the US this week. Complete about turn from Trump.
Flights are being cancelled to and from Spain. PIL merrily flew there a week ago. Now they are struggling to get a flight home.
I fully thought I’d be going skiing at Easter. Now most resorts are closed..
Sparkles9768 · 14/03/2020 12:49
I'm also of the opinion that you will get it one way or another.
I's go since already booked
bigbluebus · 14/03/2020 12:50
I was due to go on holiday tomorrow in a group of 3 adults to a country with very basic medical facilities. One of the group dropped out yesterday as she considers herself in the high risk category due to medication she is on and lack of answers from her travel insurance company about how they would repatriate her if she became ill. That left 2 of us still deciding whether to continue with the trip - 1 wanted to go ahead and 1 was unsure but disinclined to go due to the escalating nature of this pandemic and the worldwide shutdowns. Today the decision has been made not to go - inspite of FCO advice that it is still safe to travel. There are currently no recorded cases at this destination but with every plane that lands the risk increases. I am also stunned that there are people who have had their holidays cancelled to other destinations who will get their money back who are now transferring to our destination. To me, these are people who prioritise holidays above everything else and are not the sort of reckless people I want to be sharing an all inclusive resort hotel with. So my answer is, no I wouldn't go.
Honeyroar · 14/03/2020 12:54
It’s only the possibility of flights being cancelled that would be the issue for me. And it’s more than likely going to be sooner rather than later. Plus many hotels are massively scaling back restaurants and room service etc. It depends whether you’re bothered about being stuck there.
thefemalelemur · 14/03/2020 12:56
Not a chance. Given how quickly things are developing anything could happen, and I wouldn't want to be stuck abroad. Couple of weeks ago I was looking forward to a trip to Italy next week and wasn't at all concerned about going. Look where we are now!
waltzingparrot · 14/03/2020 13:05
I wouldn't want to risk going down with it, getting it badly and being so ill away from home.
SixesandEights · 14/03/2020 13:09
No way I'd go unless I was happy to be potentially stuck in a faraway country for an unknown period of time.
DeadBod · 14/03/2020 13:09
There's new changes and restrictions on a daily basis. I wouldn't take the risk.
QueenofmyPrinces · 14/03/2020 13:11

So what’s stopping you?
I can see why you’d want to go but there’s no way on earth I would be doing it.
