Covid
Fuming with the stupidity of delivery drivers
madcatladyforever · 14/03/2020 11:53
I am at home, having spoken to my GP, with a slight fever and a runny nose, all the symptoms of the common cold and self isolating. I don't think I have anything serious but have been told to self isolate as I work in the NHS.
I have barricaded the house and I'm getting deliveries online.
I am livid. Everyone else happy to leave my stuff on the doorstep. Just had the toilet rolls I ordered delivered as I have run out, explained nicely to the delivery man through the closed door that I am isolated and therefore cannot sign for the product.
Have held up my driving license through the see through glass so he can see it's me and he wants me to come out and sign for the item.
After a lengthy conversation I have completely lost it and asked him if he is a fucking idiot or what, I am self isolated under suspicion of coronavirus and he wants me to come out, cough all over him and put my germy hands all over his machine.
He refused to deliver my roilet rolls - I have none now and has gone off with them.
What kind of absolute fuckery is this.
Just about to phone the people I ordered them from to complain but that doesn't change the fact I've paid for them and have no loo rolls at all.
I'm thinking of ringing my neighbour and asking her to throw one over the fence. She wasn't in earlier to sign for me.
DettolsYourFriend · 14/03/2020 11:55
You were right to not open the door. He's a fuckwit.
Ring them, it needs addressing. Any ideas what courier it was? Probably better to go direct.
NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 14/03/2020 11:55
You called the delivery driver a fucking idiot?
When will the results of your coronavirus test be through?
Mayaaaaa · 14/03/2020 11:59
You dont have suspected corona.
You said yourself. If you really thought it was corona you need to isolating for 2 weeks.
It's a cold
Coudlnt you have come up with a solution. Like him leave the thing you sign on the doorstep and you come out sign it, then he grabs it. Wash you hands first.
He has probably been screwed over with people not signing and claiming they havent recieved it, before.
crustycrab · 14/03/2020 12:04
You've got a cold and the delivery driver is the "fucking idiot"? 🥴
walkingtheway · 14/03/2020 12:05
Your behaviour is appalling. The man was only doing his job and you swore at him?
madcatladyforever · 14/03/2020 12:07
Yes I'm afraid I did after the third time he asked me to come out and sign. I really did lose it.
Its been all over the news, everyone knows hopefully what self isolating means and this fool is refusing to leave my toilet roll on the doorstep - he wants me to come out and infect him and all his customers. I need the toilet roll, I have nne left.
i know I shouldn't have called him down but its this kind of idiot who will kill elderly pople.
No I haven't had a test, I've been advised to self isolate for 7 days only as my symptoms aren't bad enough for anything else at this point.
Mayaaaaa · 14/03/2020 12:08
Cant believe you work for the NHs and are only isolating for 7 days, despite telling people you have suspected corona.
That's beyond ridiculous
Mayaaaaa · 14/03/2020 12:09
You didnt need to infect him.
Wash your hands and get him to leave the thing to sign on the doorstep.
Then wash your hands again
Sirzy · 14/03/2020 12:11
If it’s a signed for delivery then he can’t just leave it.
Sounds like you were exceptionally rude to him when he was just trying to do his job.
Liveinside · 14/03/2020 12:11
You are absolutely in the right not to go out. Government guidelines are clear
- Self isolate for 7 days if any fever
2. Self isolate for 7 days if a cough
3. Do NOT phone 111 unless you need medical help
4. Do not answer the door to deliveries but have them left outside
I don’t understand how people have missed this news!
And are usually same people complaining that we’re not doing anything to combat the spread in this country!
madcatladyforever · 14/03/2020 12:14
I've had a terrible week and people are being deliberately obstructive and ridiculous when we have a pandemic going on. He has a phone, I'd have been quite happy him taking a photo of me with my driving licence through the door - job done and dated proof of the delivery.
I have a cold, symptoms started yesterday but we don't know if I just have a cold yet - I have been advised by 111 to self isolate.
Self isolate means not popping outside to have a nice chat with delivery drivers and spreading my germs everywhere. Spoke to my GP as well as I know him very well and he confirmed that.
Anyone who puts other people at risk during a pandemic with stupid behaviour and refuses any other alternative proof of delivery is a fucking idiot and it's people like this who put elderly like my mum who has cancer and hasn't been out for weeks at risk.
Ditto people going on holiday/clearing the shelves of food/generally being selfish.
And also he was very rude to me first.
LettuceP · 14/03/2020 12:14
Absolutely disgusting that you called him a fucking idiot, you should be ashamed of yourself. He was doing what he has been told to do, just trying to do his job. If you have an issue with the policies of the company he works for then take it up with them rather than abusing the poor delivery guy.
ch3rrycola · 14/03/2020 12:14
Those drivers get paid a pittance and treating like shit by their employer and would probably have got in trouble had he not got a signature thus he couldn't make his delivery. Very rude of you.
duvetaddict · 14/03/2020 12:17
He is an idiot. Royal Mail and other delivery companies are not allowing people to sign anymore so they can minimise risk. You were right and following the guidance by PHE.
supercee · 14/03/2020 12:18
I'm sorry but he was being a fucking idiot.
Yes the toilet rolls needed signed for but sometimes I wish people would just apply some common sense rather than stick to a rigid 'rule'. It's just toilet rolls and the OP had explained 3 times why she wasn't coming out.
countrygirl99 · 14/03/2020 12:18
Before the loo rolls were delivered couldn't you have asked if he could deliver to a neighbour who could sign and then leave them outside your house?
themental · 14/03/2020 12:19
A slight fever and a runny nose and yet you called 111???
Regardless of all the other stuff, this is the unreasonable bit.
This is going to completely overwhelm our services and lots of people are going to die -- and it's because people DO NOT listen to advice.
You're literally moaning about someone not listening when you are not listening yourself.
Why would you waste 111 and GP time for a slight fever and a runny nose? Are you mental?
madcatladyforever · 14/03/2020 12:20
Sigh, I have been asked to isolate for 7 days by both 111 and my GP as a precaution. Obviously that will be reviewed. I'm pretty sure it's a cold but who knows.
Not everyone has symptoms like fevers - I wear Butec patches and take a lot of painkillers for spinal problems so I often don't feel ill when I am.
I can just go on advice that I am given for now.
So I am at home for 7 days unless they tell me otherwise, I shall be checking when the 7 days is up.
Also I've had the last 7 days annual leave and have been at home that whole time.
daisypond · 14/03/2020 12:21
When will the results of your coronavirus test be through?
People are not being tested at all for the virus in these circumstances.
cologne4711 · 14/03/2020 12:22
You called the delivery driver a fucking idiot
To be honest, despite hating swearing, I think in the circumstances, the OP wasn't really wrong!
And he needs (a lot) better training.
cologne4711 · 14/03/2020 12:23
Before the loo rolls were delivered couldn't you have asked if he could deliver to a neighbour who could sign and then leave them outside your house
Maybe the OP doesn't know her neighbours and maybe she'd done the order before she had to self-isolate anyway.
cologne4711 · 14/03/2020 12:23
He was doing what he has been told to do, just trying to do his job
There is such a thing as applying common sense.
oTurnToPage394o · 14/03/2020 12:23
Yet OP, had you posted saying you were in isolation and were thinking of going out for a run/to walk the dog etc everyone would've jumped on you for not taking the terms of your isolation seriously 🤷🏼♀️
GulliBelle · 14/03/2020 12:24
If someone called me a fucking idiot they could whistle for their toilet rolls.
In your job you are not meant to tolerate abuse why should delivery driver be meant to put up with it?
LittleLittleLittle · 14/03/2020 12:28
I agree with the OP he is a fecking idiot.
As he will be self-employed when he gets ill he won't get paid. Even if he doesn't get ill he will be a super spreader.
