Covid

Fuming with the stupidity of delivery drivers

I am at home, having spoken to my GP, with a slight fever and a runny nose, all the symptoms of the common cold and self isolating. I don't think I have anything serious but have been told to self isolate as I work in the NHS.
I have barricaded the house and I'm getting deliveries online.
I am livid. Everyone else happy to leave my stuff on the doorstep. Just had the toilet rolls I ordered delivered as I have run out, explained nicely to the delivery man through the closed door that I am isolated and therefore cannot sign for the product.
Have held up my driving license through the see through glass so he can see it's me and he wants me to come out and sign for the item.
After a lengthy conversation I have completely lost it and asked him if he is a fucking idiot or what, I am self isolated under suspicion of coronavirus and he wants me to come out, cough all over him and put my germy hands all over his machine.
He refused to deliver my roilet rolls - I have none now and has gone off with them.
What kind of absolute fuckery is this.
Just about to phone the people I ordered them from to complain but that doesn't change the fact I've paid for them and have no loo rolls at all.
I'm thinking of ringing my neighbour and asking her to throw one over the fence. She wasn't in earlier to sign for me.

OP, there was no need for your horrendous attitude.

Make sure when complaining that you mention exactly what happened i.e The driver was following the company protocols (which he'd usually be hauled over the hot coals for not doing) and you decided that wasn't good enough so you called him a fucking idiot.
The last part is absolutely crucial.

Do the government guidelines say to be abusive towards delivery drivers?

Now, pull together and be supportive.

I can't ever bring myself to be supportive of abusing people who are out delivering vital goods to others Hmm

This, plus the saying she had suspected corona. How is that following guidelines?

Everyone having a go at the OP, have a word with yourselves. She's following government guidelines and being sensible.

I fear I’m a bit behind on this guidance which is very worrying seeing as a lot of my job entails giving out Infection control advice. Blush

Where does it advise that this is the correct course of action?

I have completely lost it and asked him if he is a fucking idiot Hmm

I can't believe the flack you're getting OP.

On Tuesday I had a scratchy throat, stuffy nose and headache, was worse on Wednesday. As a precaution, I cancelled a planned work session in a school. By Friday I had a fever, dry tickly cough and felt very unwell. Today, is much the same, but the cough is worse and my chest feels tight.

On Tues or Weds it was no different to a cold, but now I have all the symptoms of Covid-19. It might not be, it might just be coincidence, quite frankly, I'm not taking the risk. Whatever virus I have, it doesn't need to be passed on via a delivery driver's touchscreen to unsuspecting vulnerable people who are avoiding the shops.

Honestly, yes. OP was following the guidelines:

Make sure you tell delivery drivers to leave items outside for collection if you order online. The delivery driver should not come into your home.

He saw her driving licence which would confirm her name, address and identity. He could've signed it and left it outside. He didn't - definitely an idiot in the current circumstance. I'll excuse the 'fucking' again down to OPs circumstances.

You do realise that if you have even the slightest symptoms of a COLD, you have to isolate for 7 DAYS

Cold? I thought it was a cough or a temperature not a cold?

Thank you for the link @NonHypotheticalLurkingParent but it does not contain the advice to call people “fucking idiots” so I fail to see its relevance Hmm

Not that this is helpful now for this delivery, but I believe that "self-isolate" DOES still allow people to open the door and accept a delivery, either from a delivery driver or from friends, family, neighbor, etc. The intent of self-isolation is not for people to starve to death.

Ideally the delivery driver would also be able to forego the signature or to find a way to get it (if they really need one) while absolutely minimising contact with the person in the house.

All sounds a bit overly dramatic.

Personally I would complain about the policy, and ask them to refund you for the loo rolls but be prepared to be told they won't tolerate abuse to their staff. Maybe apologise. You don't want to get blacklisted for online deliveries in the current climate!

Given the shortage of loo rolls it could be that they have had problems.

Who said he wanted to come in to her home?
