Going to Spain tomorrow

How stupid am I being??

I'm off on a short break to Spain tomorrow. Not in an affected (or largely affected anyway) area, but I note the situation is getting worse by the day.

Staying near Torrevieja. I'm there tomorrow until Wednesday.

It's tricky as it's such a fast moving picture. I get it. And it's money lost possibly if it's not a firmly advised against action. Just this week I was looking at flights for work to Europe but today we have been told no travel.

sudocremanglaise · 13/03/2020 21:30

I wouldn’t. As others have said, it is fast moving and others parts of the country outside of Madrid and Basque Country are already moving into lockdown. Imagine the Valenciana community go a similar route to Murcia - some people have mentioned isolating on your return to the UK, but think about how you would feel if you were asked to isolate on arrival in Spain and whether that is worth it?

Agree with others it is madness to go to Spain right now.

We were due to go to Spain late March to sort out my dads will but we are postponing it (luckily we have insurance) but even if I couldn’t recoup my money I still wouldn’t go.

Peasfox · 13/03/2020 21:49

I know someone who was meant to be flying next week and staying with family so the cost of having to stay longer really didn’t matter and they could stay with their Mum if the country got locked down

Even they aren’t going anymore

Peasfox · 13/03/2020 21:49

That’s Alicante by the way, the beaches are shut apparently

LR33 · 13/03/2020 21:52

I live in playa flamenca and we are on a 2 week lock down, all restaurants and bars are closed from midnight,
You are only allowed out to go to the shop or to the pharmacy.
Police are patroling areas around.
You are mad to come here!!

GreenTulips · 13/03/2020 21:53

Apparently as the schools close parents see it as an extended holiday and are heading vet o the coast, particularly those with holiday homes. This is why it’s spreading.

Beesisabuzzin · 13/03/2020 21:55

No way would I go and I can't tell you how bloody desperate I am for a holiday.

OhMargo · 13/03/2020 21:58

Oh just go. You just want us to tell you that. Grow up and make your own decisions based on the information available, which to me sounds horrific in Spain at the moment.

Let us know how you got on when (if) you get back.

IronShame · 13/03/2020 22:00

Oh just go. You just want us to tell you that

OPs not even posted since the first page, chill out. It sounds to me they were simply asking for advice as to whether they should go or not.

Hearthside · 13/03/2020 22:02

My inlaws are currently in Torreviega and currently there for another week .My DH has gone to bed in a massive sulk because i said that i will not be taking myself or DS's near for at least two weeks when they are back, he thinks i am hugely overreacting as it no more than a bad cold Hmm.I love my inlaws but i think they have been incredibly selfish because they could bring it back with them .I am asthmatic and i work with very vunerable people so i am definitely not going close .Surely a holiday is not that important given the state of Europe at the moment .

Hopeisnotastrategy · 13/03/2020 22:02

Costa Blanca going into lockdown in one hours time.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 13/03/2020 22:04

I also want to add to the chorus of don’t go. A close family member went skiing in Austria, feeling safe enough ‘as it’s not Italy’. They have brought the virus home!

Jespers · 13/03/2020 22:06

Very. Don’t go.

Beingyellow · 13/03/2020 22:08

Depends. Got to admit i'd still be temped.... where are you staying? Own holiday home? With a friend? If it was one of those I'd go. If its a hotel or rented apartment I would probably cut my losses....

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 22:10

I wouldn’t advise it there is over 4200 cases ow here they’ve shutting all schools etc, I have a thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3843845-Coved-19-spain where we’re trying to keep updated in Spain , if anyone has anything to add please do!

thenightsky · 13/03/2020 22:11

Just been on the phone to my (in denial) friend. She says her sister in law flew to Benidorm two days ago and all must be fine as she's not heard from her. Hmm

She's using that example to prove to me that its all hype in the papers and I shouldn't believe what I read. We are all being scammed apparently. Hmm

QueenofDestruction · 13/03/2020 22:18

I am in Spain. For a few months for work at the moment and the government has declared a state of emergency, which is level 3 at the moment and panic buying has started in not so seriously affected areas. The schools are closing on Monday throughout the country and you have a very good chance of not being able to return

PhoneTwattery · 13/03/2020 22:23

I wouldn't want to be quarantined. In another country. Probably in a tiny room. With none of my things.

cookiemonstressa · 13/03/2020 22:24

I'm in Marbella, don't come to Spain.

48 hours ago I'd have said still come over.
24 hours ago I'd have cautiously said you might be okay.
But now I would definitely advise not coming over. The shops are closing from midnight tonight so there was lots of panic buying this afternoon/evening. All schools are now closing as well as all markets, activities, play areas etc. Everyone has been asked to self isolate and not travel if possible. I expect within the next day/s we will be on full lockdown like Italy, as the rumours circulating here suggest. I've been very laid back about this all but the situation is changing rapidly and I expect you may struggle to get home again if you do come to Spain.

QueenofDestruction · 13/03/2020 22:24

The state of emergency in Costa de Soll starts tomorrow and police have been all over my town taking n offence resources as part of that.

wherearemychickens · 13/03/2020 22:26

Nope, no way I'd be going.

QueenofDestruction · 13/03/2020 22:27

Sorry autocrazy, the police are checking local resources , the rumour is that all shops except pharmacies and food stores will be closed shortly,

LR33 · 13/03/2020 22:27

This is where we are! Near Torrevieja

Going to Spain tomorrow
