Going to Spain tomorrow

How stupid am I being??

I'm off on a short break to Spain tomorrow. Not in an affected (or largely affected anyway) area, but I note the situation is getting worse by the day.

Staying near Torrevieja. I'm there tomorrow until Wednesday.

chatterbugmegastar · 13/03/2020 17:09

If anyone needs to ask this question today I really have lost all hope.

This

Stupid needs managing Hmm

Delatron · 13/03/2020 17:10

Parents in Law currently in Andalusia and think everything is fine! Say they are having a lovely holiday. I’m not sure what they are thinking of but I guess some areas are worse than others. Not sure I’d risk it now though.

Zucker · 13/03/2020 17:10

Spain this afternoon declared a state of emergency. Their Prime Minister is mobilising the military to contain new cases. The WHO this afternoon stated that Europe is now the epicentre of this pandemic.

You do you though and enjoy your break.

ooooohbetty · 13/03/2020 17:11

I know someone who is on the Costa del sol now. Everything isn't closed. There are lots of people on holiday there. I'd go.

blue25 · 13/03/2020 17:11

A state of emergency has been declared in Spain. Why the hell would you travel there tomorrow?

IronShame · 13/03/2020 17:13

The advice is not to travel to certain areas of Spain unless absolutely necessary, not Spain in general.

Torrevieja is no where near Madrid.

WokClock · 13/03/2020 17:13

Have you seen all the flights being cancelled from various European countries? I wouldn’t go

Fortyquinn · 13/03/2020 17:14

Very stupid. Don't go.

Chloemol · 13/03/2020 17:14

You are being very selfish. Think about your family. Will you self isolate when you get back? It’s not worth it.

MrsMigginsPie · 13/03/2020 17:15

FCO advise against all but essential travel to some parts of Spain - costa Blanca isn’t one of these areas. It’s not clear cut and I don’t know whether YABU.

I’m due to visit my Mum (late 70s) in 2 weeks and I don’t know what to do. My gut says to not go. If I infected her then I would never forgive myself. She says she’s just as likely to catch it elsewhere. And what if she does get it and I haven’t visited her (only really see her twice a year max)?

Think Spain is slightly ahead of us in its epidemic so FCO May change its advice to incorporate larger swathes of Spain. Spain may also close its borders or impose stricter lockdown measures - which might might you’re stuck there with nothing to do (or actually stuck there and not able to get home).

Also think about what would happen if you got ill in Spain. Would your travel insurance cover it?

Witchlight · 13/03/2020 17:20

If you go, please don’t come back until this is all over in about 4 months.

Sheer selfishness and stupidity!

Spied · 13/03/2020 17:21

It surely isn't worth it

quiteathome · 13/03/2020 17:24

Really? They have declared a state of emergency. No way would I go.

user5656 · 13/03/2020 17:25

DH and I were supposed to be going to Seville today.
We cancelled, it's just not worth the risk of getting stuck there. Plus, lots of places including Alcazar palace is closed.

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 13/03/2020 17:27

What part of Spain are you going to?

BothALarkAndAnOwl · 13/03/2020 17:31

Please don’t. Who knows what you could be taking with you or what you could bring back. You could seed a whole new cluster.

Torrevieja will still be there when all of this is over.

MissMoiselle · 13/03/2020 17:32

@Dootie I live in Alicante and I wouldn't advise it. There was an announcement today that Murcia is to be quarantined (nobody in or out) and Alicante is to follow suit. Everything is closed apart from some supermarkets and pharmacies. If you come, you WILL be stuck here for a while.

Grufallosfriends · 13/03/2020 17:33

Is this a joke or a wind up Hmm?

Of course you shouldn't fly anywhere now especially not Spain!!!

rumandbiscuits · 13/03/2020 17:35

Don't go!

MoltonSilver · 13/03/2020 17:36

They are in the middle of a national emergency. They don't want you there. Grow up.

MoltonSilver · 13/03/2020 17:37

Ireland has issued a travel advisory against all non essential travel to Spain. Has the UK not done the same?

Onemorehitandillcrumble · 13/03/2020 17:37

Well you won’t have to queue at check in if you go.

Going to Spain tomorrow
BanningTheWordNaice · 13/03/2020 17:38

I’m currently in Madrid - we booked a flight back early, we’ll go from the plane to our car into self isolation. Restaurants etc are closing, parks are closing, police are circling and there will almost certainly be a lockdown.

Isla727 · 13/03/2020 17:43

Okay fine but then self-isolate for a fortnight IF you get back to the UK.

Roselilly36 · 13/03/2020 17:44

We were supposed to fly out next tues, we cancelled three weeks ago.
