I am so angry with our government

I think I have Coronavirus. Started with the hacking dry, cough on Monday, then the temperature etc. My children are the same. I'm self isolating at the advice of my GP.

I work for a local authority, have seen numerous members of the public in the last few weeks as I always would along with staff within my office and from other offices.

I will not be tested. My case will not be included in the stats. I could have passed this onto numerous people. Some very vulnerable and high risk.

The governments action and advice on this is s fucking travesty. An absolute disgrace. No checks for people entering or leaving the country, no testing of those with symptoms unless you're at sea ha door, no banning of large events, no schools shutting.

Not only have public services and the NHS been systematically dismantled over recent years, but now when there is a genuine situation of catastrophe, the government are white washing as it happens. And nobody seems to be absolutely furious about this.

What the fuck has happened. When did we become like this. Like lambs to slaughter.

Now that the virus is in the community rather than being brought in from abroad they can't possibly track contacts for everyone. They also can't possibly test everyone. What difference will testing make to you anyway? You have it. You isolate yourself and hopefully don't pass it on. Testing can't be used for the hundreds of thousands of people who will get it. Mathematical modelling will mean you are counted.

PreseaCombatir · 13/03/2020 14:15

The government didn’t give you Coronavirus.
Denmark was the second country to go into lockdown, and that was Wednesday.
What did you want out government to do on Monday?

MrsWolf2 · 13/03/2020 14:38

I hope you and your children feel better soon Flowers

I’m ok at the moment but also very angry at the government and very scared. I actually think the U.K might manage to fuck this up for the whole world, if their lockdown measures work and they eliminate the virus and then some carrier from the UK visits and starts it all off again for them.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 13/03/2020 14:45

Try and calm down, this is not the government’s fault, any more than it is anyone else’s. Would you rather NHS staff were running round complaining statistics, or looking after all the people who are and are going to get very sick? It’’s awful and it’s very worrying, but it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Best save your energy for the next few months and thinking how best you can deal with it. 💐

I thought they said that there were cases of people being repeatedly infected meaning that it's unlikely you become immune after one dose?

crazydiamond222 · 13/03/2020 14:57

'I actually think the U.K might manage to fuck this up for the whole world, if their lockdown measures work and they eliminate the virus and then some carrier from the UK visits and starts it all off again for them'

Unfortunately lockdown is not about eliminating the virus it is about temporarily restricting its spread. As soon as lockdown ends the virus will recirculate unless there is immunity in the population.

buttonmoonb4tea · 13/03/2020 16:10

For all those saying it's not the governments fault, yes you're right, but they really haven't got a grip on how to handle this.

Like I said no checks at airports, nothing.

It's ridiculous. I am sat here with the cough, tight chest etc. This is going to catastrophic for this country and all the government cares about is the economy not the health of the people. It's a disgrace

LadyLuna16 · 13/03/2020 16:22

Why do people not believe the scientists when they say checking at airports would make little difference. I have no idea how these things work and I am no fan of Boris, but I also trust the scientists that they have a plan. There is no right decision here. It’s new territory and we are being asked as citizens to use common sense and think of others. You are doing that.
I honestly don’t believe Boris is trying to kill us. I think he is in an unenviable position and is taking advise from those that know rather than wasting time, money and personnel on things that might look good but will have little effect.

NichyNoo · 13/03/2020 16:25

Surely closing schools and workplaces is much worse for the country than you having a cough????

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 16:26

If Boris is so right, why are leading members of our scientific community not so convinced?

I am so angry with our government
bigchris · 13/03/2020 16:27

It's not the governments fault

They're goimg on WHO advice

bigchris · 13/03/2020 16:29

Why do people always think they knkw better than the experts

Same happened with brexit , bank of England 'it'll be catastrophic financially to leave the eu' Joe public 'let's leave the eu it'll be fine '

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 16:29

It's not the governments fault. They're goimg on WHO advice

Recent criticisms of our government are that they are actually ignoring WHO advice.

Alsohuman · 13/03/2020 16:31

The over reaction to this is bonkers. An average of 17k people a year die of flu, yet we’re treating this as if it’s the bubonic plague.

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 16:32

Copied from another thread...

The who is sitting right now on their press conference begging countries to test and find every case. Which is what we said we’d stop doing. They want aggressive action. They won’t name countries they aren’t happy with, but will take the tough conversations directly with those countries. Is what they have just said.

Our government are not following WHO advice at all.

Clavinova · 13/03/2020 16:33

If Boris is so right, why are leading members of our scientific community not so convinced?

The leading expert you have linked to is only aged 36!

Butterwhy · 13/03/2020 16:34

Testing at airports is mostly pointless, as the incubation period is long people carrying it might not have a temp, and it lulls them into a sense of security when they actually may go on to develop symptoms. At best you might catch a few who already have it, but all other places have been doing is telling them to isolate. I would rather than money is invested in buying the correct equipment needed for hospitals and care settings rather than testing, if people follow the guidance and self isolate (and do it properly rather than many on here who seem to want to pop out), then testing is pointless. You also will get people who have few symptoms and so won't test, making the data inaccurate anyway. Be mad at the Chinese government for covering it up for as long as they could maybe, a lockdown won't work here for a sustained period.

CuppaZa · 13/03/2020 16:37

@bigchris, no they aren’t following WHO advice

buttonmoonb4tea · 13/03/2020 16:38

WHO are the experts and they are not following their advice

OP posts:
Babyroobs · 13/03/2020 16:39

I'm very angry at how no checks were done on people returning from Italy where the problem is huge. It seems like this is where a lot of the Uk infection has come from.

TheMemoryLingers · 13/03/2020 16:42

The leading expert you have linked to is only aged 36!

I'm not a scientist so can't comment on that individual's credentials - but I don't think 36 is too young to be an expert. I say that from the experience of middle age.

NeverTwerkNaked · 13/03/2020 16:42

They govt are ignoring WHO advice. They are also ignoring the advice of their own experts unless it fits with what they want to do

Michelleoftheresistance · 13/03/2020 16:44

The WHO has been begging from Monday, live in press conferences and obviously will have been liaising directly with the British Govt too. They've done all but name the UK as going absolutely against their advice.

If immunity happens after catching it why have health workers died after repeatedly getting this virus? At best this is risking millions of people in an untested experiment.
