I am so angry with our government

I think I have Coronavirus. Started with the hacking dry, cough on Monday, then the temperature etc. My children are the same. I'm self isolating at the advice of my GP.

I work for a local authority, have seen numerous members of the public in the last few weeks as I always would along with staff within my office and from other offices.

I will not be tested. My case will not be included in the stats. I could have passed this onto numerous people. Some very vulnerable and high risk.

The governments action and advice on this is s fucking travesty. An absolute disgrace. No checks for people entering or leaving the country, no testing of those with symptoms unless you're at sea ha door, no banning of large events, no schools shutting.

Not only have public services and the NHS been systematically dismantled over recent years, but now when there is a genuine situation of catastrophe, the government are white washing as it happens. And nobody seems to be absolutely furious about this.

What the fuck has happened. When did we become like this. Like lambs to slaughter.

If Boris is so right, why are leading members of our scientific community not so convinced?

If you get 5 scientists in a room, you will get 5 different views. The government is following the advice of the Chief Medical Officer - the person employed to assess and give advice on health to the government. Unlike USA, it is not a particularly political appointment.

PreseaCombatir · 13/03/2020 17:40

Every country bar us has fought it
Some by shooting dead the people breaking quarantine...

Alsohuman · 13/03/2020 17:42

Oh for goodness sake @FacingtheAbess, talk about melodrama. I think some people are just enjoying catastrophising.

LettuceP · 13/03/2020 17:50

I dread to think what our nos will be.
We will only know by the distress signs, signals whistle blowing from NHS and when people in gov turn.
Crems backing up, dead, not enough coffins.
oh for goodness sake 🙄

MissBPotter · 13/03/2020 17:57

Oh why don’t you fuck off @buttonmoonb4tea with your shouting!! I actually have corona virus right now, as you probably do. Pathetic response.

Symbollove · 13/03/2020 18:02

Hope you and your children feel better op. What makes you think you have covid and not just a normal cold and fever?

I do agree they should close the border and only allow the British residents to come back in.

However I don't agree with schools closing just yet, a lot of families have both parents working, single mums working, it will cause disruption everywhere if no one can get to work due to no child care

buttonmoonb4tea · 13/03/2020 18:05

@MissBPotter I apologise. This really isn't how I am usually but my mental health is taking a battering right now. I apologise for telling you to fuck off.

I was advised to go to the GP though and had to expressly ask if they were happy for me to go to the surgery.

@Symbollove I have a really dry hacking cough, my chest was really tight earlier.

Earlier in the week I had a headache, aches, a bit of diarrhoea, that's it really!

My DD has a temperature, headache and slight cough but DS had a dry cough and temperature.

Those who think it's melodrama it's what's happening in Italy right now.

Iran is digging mass graves.

And we won't know numbers. And people will die in isolation. The NHS won't cope and we will have the most enormous peak because our measures are too weak.

Barbararara · 13/03/2020 18:16

I hope you and your dc feel better soon OP.

Monstermummymum · 13/03/2020 18:19

Hope you and your children are ok. Totally agree with you. It's a disgrace that they are not testing- our stats are a lie.

Harpingon · 13/03/2020 18:28

We don't need to test everyone now, just count the old, sick and disabled who die from it... The modelers can work the stats out from that, eugenics.

BasinHaircut · 13/03/2020 18:34

Trying to determine the exact numbers when you are talking about an infectious disease in the midst of a pandemic has to be the best definition of a waste of time and resource.

The number can only ever be indicative, they will never be absolute, and to me that is the most plainly obvious fact.

LemonGingerCakes · 13/03/2020 18:37

You are almost certain to recover OP

And who cares about everyone else, right? Hmm. There are many, many people who fit into the old and vulnerable category.

buttonmoonb4tea · 13/03/2020 19:34

@LemonGingerCakes yes I'm worried about myself but also about my vulnerable parents who I won't even feel safe seeing in 7 days time

OP posts:
Charlottejbt · 13/03/2020 19:41

YANBU.

Testing can't be used for the hundreds of thousands of people who will get it. Mathematical modelling will mean you are counted.

If there aren't any accurate figures available because hardly anyone is being tested, surely the modelling won't have anything to go on. Garbage in, garbage out.

Notcoolmum · 13/03/2020 19:46

We are going directly against the advice of WHO. Acting out of sync with the majority of the rest of the world. I'm genuinely worried.

AngelicaKauffman · 13/03/2020 20:08

We are going directly against the advice of WHO

I asked earlier but nobody replied. Does anyone have a link to this WHO advice that the UK is ignoring?

Doesn't exactly addresss the UK, but you can take it they mean the US and UK

OP posts:
buttonmoonb4tea · 13/03/2020 20:41

But Trump has just done a press conference and testing is going to be increased for Americans. Let's hope the UK take heed.

flipflapflopgoesthedolphinshop · 13/03/2020 21:32

@BasinHaircut

I have predicted the exact number of new cases for the last three days using very simple maths.

TheresGonnaBeARain · 13/03/2020 22:27

@flipflapflopgoesthedolphinshop

And what are you comparing your predicted number of new cases against?

AngelicaKauffman · 13/03/2020 23:13

Doesn't exactly addresss the UK, but you can take it they mean the US and UK

Was it the thing the WHO said about many countries not doing enough? That was before Boris's announcement tbf.

But actually what I'm looking for is the specific WHO guidance that the UK is going directly against.
