So, who wants to come and tell me how selfish I am for travelling to Australia next week, via Singapore?

Well the photographs of shoppers storming one of your stores and ripping toilet rolls from the tray before it was even unpacked seem to be telling the same story.

People minimising the situation are just as bad as those exaggerating it.

I work in central Melbourne. It’s business as usual - cafes filled with people, tourists shopping.People smiling and going about their days etc. my local supermarket was free of bog rolls last week but seems to have been restocked. I’m only talking about my wee corner of course but 🤷‍♀️

popebenedictsp45 · 15/03/2020 19:47

I’m not saying the pandemic isn’t a serious and evolving situation btw. Just that the poster describing post apocalyptic scenes is not helping the other poster worrying about her son.

@popebenedictsp45 No no not from a truck, yikes that would be bad! No I had a top off from a local neighbour that delivery trucks were at the store and we raced to the store. They were restocking empty shelves and we got some of it. I'm not trying to alarm anybody, I realise it sounds insane. It wasn't like this just two days afoot just exploded yesterday. I'm glad to here that your experience is different, I can only tell you that mine was very strange yesterday and looked like that. The lady in the store described it is looking like a war zone and I felt that way too. I'm a member of local groups on Facebook and posts and pictures odnlocal supermarkets show they others in my local area are experiencing the same. Fully appreciate that this won't be everyone's experience though so maybe I'm living in an area were people have just gotten spooked? Woolworth stopped all online shopping last night though so it can't be great in most places? I'm glad to hear that things are normal in your neck of the woods Pope Benedict, there's no reason for the shelves to be bare! Not trying to scare people just describe my last 24 hours. Things might also be different in Brisbane, I hope so.

You must self isolate, you’ll be completely alone for 14 days. How long are you going for?

crustycrab · 17/03/2020 13:07

Have you seen the latest news OP?

adiposegirl2 · 17/03/2020 13:17

I'm going to Australia next week

Err, no you are not.

And if you do, dont expect The British Embassy to expatriate your mischievous selfish self.

New FCO ruling today.

MaitlandGirl · 17/03/2020 13:27

Our PM has recalled all overseas Aussies home and no flights are heading to Europe for 30days. From the sounds of things our borders will be closing in the very near future.

Any Aussies who choose to stay overseas almost certainly won’t be able to get back in within a very, very short space of time.

notimagain · 17/03/2020 13:30

New FCO ruling today

In part:
.
"There is an ongoing outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Australia. The Australian authorities have introduced a number of measures to limit the spread of the virus. From midnight on 15 March, all passengers arriving in Australia from all countries are required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival."

If the OP is still reading please don't ask "does that include me"?

Laurendelight · 17/03/2020 13:30

No one is flying anywhere.

feesh · 17/03/2020 13:31

You aren’t going OP. Sorry. apple.news/A3bMH2q2OQ7ehTa-9qNafTw

Sorry your trip has been cancelled - we were due to do the same early April, to see DS who moved to Sydney last year.
So disappointed, but understand that we need to look at the bigger picture at the moment.
Have a feeling it might be a long time before we can travel over there. Sad

Casino218 · 19/03/2020 15:48

Will my SIL get back? I've been trying to offer her some realism this week to get her shit together and get home quick!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 20/03/2020 06:50

DS flies from Brisbane to LHR tomorrow via Dubai. Just crossing everything that flights go ahead.
