I'm hoping I'll still get allllllll the presents! 😁

RedToothBrush · 12/03/2020 22:49

Robert Peston @peston
One of the government’s main arguments against closing schools to slow the #Covid_19 spread is NHS staff would stay home to look after their children, depriving the health service of vital personnel. But one former minister pointed out it would be perfectly...

feasible to compel schools to keep on skeleton staff to look after the children of key public sector employees, notably healthcare workers and police. There are practical solutions to many of the virus-delaying measures that bring accompanying costs.

Apparently @Jeremy_Hunt has outed himself as having come up with this idea. It is a good one, many would say

Apparently this is what is happening in Norway, France and Belgium at least.

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 22:50

What happens when China and Italy come out of lockdown is an unknown. It has to be.

I think this is the thing. Unless they are very lucky there is every chance the number of cases just bounce back.

I think the government hope that hand washing and keeping people with symptoms at home will be enough to slow the spread, so that when we peak it will be a smaller peak and closer to the summer.

I bloody hope they are right, because by the time we know for sure it will be too bloody late.

Horehound · 12/03/2020 22:51

@ofwarren no, I am serious. You are on here all day long. Posting links from lots of different places. It must be consuming you're life and it's not healthy!

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 22:51

@quartz2208
We haven't been asked to do those things you have listed from Germany.
Social distancing and the cancellation of large events hasn't been suggested.

They won't be happy unless we are all told to sit in our houses for four months. Then they'll moan about something else that they can't control

I have fence paint and lo

Greentea93 · 12/03/2020 22:51

@Quartz2208 Belgium has made the decision to close schools

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 22:52

@horehound
Plenty of time on my hands whilst self isolating. I don't need your 'advice'.

OP posts:
Horehound · 12/03/2020 22:53

And the government doesn't need yours Wink

Dirtystreetpie · 12/03/2020 22:53

If your 3 year old had asthma would you keep them out of care? There is no advice. Apart from we don’t know how it affects children, seems relatively low risk...

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 22:54

Yet you insist on giving yours all the time. Funny that..

@ofwarren you have named 22 countries.... Over 100 countries have the virus there so we are actually following the majority! And out of your list of countries many of them have much worse figures than we do... How do you know this isn't due to closures of school causing elderly relatives having to look after the children?

Horehound · 12/03/2020 22:54

I haven't given any advice.
You're so hostile.

Wehttam · 12/03/2020 22:55

warren ignore the hore not sure what persona it is playing but it’s not a good one.

Keep up the amazing work please. Pay ZERO attention to it

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 22:55

But someone has said on here this evening that the government are planning to change how they test and rather than increasing tests from 1500 to 10000 a day as was discussed earlier in the week, they will instead be reducing them and limiting them to just people who are very ill/presented at hospital.

My understanding (and I am also on my way to bed so am not going hunting for the source) is that as well as testing those in hospitals they are going to be doing a form of random sampling around the country to find out the spread of the virus in different areas.

RedToothBrush · 12/03/2020 22:55

I have fence paint and decking paint and lots of garden maintenance that badly needs doing. The lawn is a wreck. I need to lay the compost. I have 8 planters to do. And that's before I start planting up the beds with my seedlings.

DH has bluntly said I'm not allowed to die before I've finished the garden.

I'm not sitting in my house for four months.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 22:56

@emsy86 again, for the hard of reading, it was off the top of my head..
What brings you to that theory?

Over 100 countries have the virus there so we are actually following the majority!

How many of those have more confirmed cases?

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 22:57

@horehound and you are patronising

Just look at the Wuhan cases.
Also first lock downs in Italy have reported a little rise in cases.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 22:58

@TedToothBrush
That's what we've been up to this week 😁
Just bought a greenhouse and everything 😂

One of my daughter’s friends is in hospital with coronavirus. Friend doesn’t sound in a good way. Dd has seen a photo of them with “tubes coming out of them”. I’m hoping she just means something like an IV line.

emsy86 · 12/03/2020 23:01

Well you are moaning that we are not following whT certain countries are doing but some of those countries are in a much worse position than we are... You all rave about how good Germany numbers are and they haven't shut schools... Maybe there numbers and death rate is so low because there health care workers are actually at the hospital I stead of looking after their kids..

And like someone else says this is all very new no body's knows the right or wrong way to deal with this! Just because other countries do something one way it doesn't mean its right... We are ranked second best behind the USA to deal with these situations... Funny how we are both doing things a different way to everyone else!

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 23:02

Italy and South Korea saw their first #coronavirus cases in late January but they both had different testing responses and dramatically different outcomes. The takeaway: aggressive and sustained testing is a powerful tool for fighting the virus t.co/HERNt9Qta4 t.co/qA8k0aWf3F
