TOTAL AND UTTER MADNESS

I am totally amazed at the attitude of our Government! Thousands of Spanish football fans have travelled from coronavirus-hit Madrid to the UK for a football game in Liverpool tonight. Madrid has parts on lockdown and are not allowed to gather on mass there, yet they can fly here!!
Total madness!
All true here is the link to the Liverpool Echo

Liverpool fan as my username suggests. Watching the game but can't concentrate given the situation! Hope the hotels, bars etc involved have the sense to do a deep clean. At least Klopp is taking it seriously lol

Im amazed at how certain people continue to blindly defend Boris, even when he's once again shown himself to be a completley inept leader. He was useless during the floods and now useless during this pandemic.

As a foreign friend of Errol Flynn with poor English once said.
"They think I know F nothing but I know F all.

Im quite shocked to have read that pretty much every other league in Europe are playing their games in empty stadiums but here everything is carrying on as normal?

Newjez · 11/03/2020 20:49

I never ever thought I would say this.

But I think we might have been safer with Jeremy Hunt.

BelleSausage · 11/03/2020 20:58

The strategy is to contain the hit in the economy. We don’t have any reserves to bring us out of another recession. So the government are trying to delay doing anything to cause the least damage to business.

They will wait to lockdown until there is already a high number of people off sick in the work force and then shut up shop to help ‘flatten the curve’.

My money is on another two weeks and two thousand cases before they look at doing anything more serious.

Michaelbaubles · 11/03/2020 21:00

Newjez, ain’t that the truth. Every time I’ve heard him speak recently he’s sounded like a voice of sanity. And I couldn’t stand the guy before this.

Andbreatheout · 11/03/2020 21:01

My sister and her dh are in Madrid and both have been told to work from home whilst self isolating as their offices both have confirmed cases. She says it's rife, aren't Spain the second highest in Europe? Can't understand why UK isn't taking this seriously.

Helpwithaversion · 11/03/2020 21:03

We are renowned for our stupidly as a nation reminds me of the saying ‘only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’

Inkpaperstars · 11/03/2020 21:22

The chancellor opened his budget speech today saying they were doing everything they could to limit or contain or something. After that lie I found it hard to concentrate on the rest.

KenDodd · 11/03/2020 21:29

I reckon Dominic Cummings has looked at the group most likely to die from this and seen a solution to the crisis in social care.

Not even joking.

Clavinova · 11/03/2020 21:36

the guy from the Lancet - Richard Horton

Richard Horton is not without controversy himself;
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Horton_(editor)

Just because Richard Horton is editor-in-chief of The Lancet doesn't mean he's not politically motivated.His tweet after the general election;

"The UK seems to have elected the most right-wing populist government just about ever. And it’s our fault. #shame"

He doesn't like Matt Hancock at all;

"A combination of gutlessness and sycophancy leads Matt Hancock to pander to the ill-informed prejudices of Boris Johnson.Welcome to Britain."

Are people just annoyed because it’s the tories?

It does seem that way.

Truzza · 11/03/2020 21:37

Just read the WHO report not naming and shaming, but it's pretty obvious that they were talking about the uk... so scary

Sunshineand · 11/03/2020 21:41

LuxLFC Did you see how Klopp ridiculed the journalist that had flown in from Madrid and asked him if he was concerned about coronavirus? He was sooooo good! I really like him now!

Cor I've heard about this Klopp geezer being great. But that takedown of the journalist was excellent! Well said that man

Re naming and shaming Dr Tedros called on governments to change the course of the outbreak by taking "urgent and aggressive action”

Source: bbc.co.uk

We respond by letting 3000 football fans in from the worse affected area of Spain....

PointlessAddict · 11/03/2020 22:09

He’s doing the right thing. The advice he’s given is from experts. Why wouldn’t you go with it? He’s right in saying that if you do it too early, it’ll backfire. Are people just annoyed because it’s the tories? I’m guessing it is.

I agree. This sure has brought out the armchair experts.

It’s not in the government’s interests for everyone to get it due to the impact on the NHS and the economy if that happens. I think the Tories are arseholes but they do actually have scientists and doctors advising them it’s not just BoJo making it all up. They have to time it so that it peaks at the time that will cause less harm. They also need to make people realise there’s benefit to be had from implementing measure. Telling everyone now you can’t go anywhere, your kids school will be shut, you can’t go out socialising or do any hobbies, when only 400 and odd people have it, people aren’t going to buy into that and will ignore it and it’ll be worse than if they had delayed such measures to a time where people could see the benefit
