Why always the health ministers?

Health minister tests positive for coronavirus www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51827356

I’m curious to know how she contracted it.

Noconceptofnormal · 10/03/2020 22:52

Wow, as health minister you would assume she was following all the precautions and had much better Intel than any of us on how to avoid it as well.

Bloody hell.

user127819 · 10/03/2020 22:55

I wonder whether she had contact with a known patient, or whether they bent the rules to test her?

BloomedAgain · 10/03/2020 22:57

Yes I'm wondering how she got tested if not a known contact.

user127819 · 10/03/2020 22:59

If she didn't have contact with a known case, I don't think they will be able to justify the current testing strategy any longer.

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 23:00

It’s apparently about 34 times more infectious than flu so don’t know what will happen now government have it?! It’s airborne so don’t think washing her hands would have helped much.

TimeForPlentyIn2020 · 10/03/2020 23:03

Oh bloody hell!

CoronaVera · 10/03/2020 23:05

Apparently she was recently in contact with the Prime Minister so he'll have to be tested now too.

You couldn't make it up though could you.

OP posts:
WorriedAcademic · 10/03/2020 23:06

I want to know why she was able to be tested if she doesn’t meet the criteria. Thought we were all in this together? Is it one rule for them and one rule for us?

If she isn’t sick enough to be at hospital and no recent travel she doesn’t meet criteria?

WorriedAcademic · 10/03/2020 23:07

And would Boris meet criteria? A colleague of mine has had direct contact and they won’t test her unless she has symptoms.

ZombieFan · 10/03/2020 23:09

Of course she should have had priority testing, if the health department is wiped out by the virus what do you think happens to the country?

CoronaVera · 10/03/2020 23:09

Probably not but I wouldn't even begrudge them bending the rules for the PM. I'm not a fan of his but his loveable cuddly we'll all be fine reassurance rather goes out of the window if he's got it himself!

OP posts:
22Giraffes · 10/03/2020 23:10

No you really couldn't make it up! Well if the health minister has caught it then there's no hope for any of us Shock (light hearted)

VivaLeBeaver · 10/03/2020 23:10

I don’t think she should have priority testing at all. What about HCPs who can’t get tested as they haven’t been abroad? Think they’re more vital.

middleager · 10/03/2020 23:11

It's like a plot from 'Years and Years'

I only hope now that it hammers home how close this is to all of us and how the testing criteria needs updating urgently.

TimeForPlentyIn2020 · 10/03/2020 23:11

To be fair, if I was her I’d think of it as a perk of the job.

Frazzled2207 · 10/03/2020 23:14

Hopefully having it this close to home will make BoJo take it all a bit more seriously

VivaLeBeaver · 10/03/2020 23:14

Yes, I sincerely hope they agree to test anyone now who is medically suspected of having it.

seasmize · 10/03/2020 23:14

This makes a mockery of their 111 advice/testing triage. No contact with a confirmed case from the sounds of it, or mention of travel to Wuhan or Northern Italy.

There’s clearly widespread community acquired cases, why are they withholding testing?

CoronaVera · 10/03/2020 23:15

Wonder whether they'll all show up for the budget tomorrow as usual?

OP posts:
Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 23:18

We’ve just been discussing on another thread that we know it is widespread in our community it’s not even a secret.

Our college has it but remains open. Not even been cleaned Angry

VivaLeBeaver · 10/03/2020 23:25

So Boris should be self isolating now for 14 days?

Floooy174 · 10/03/2020 23:28

350 cases out of a population of 60 million and one of them is our Health Minister! Seems a bit unlucky that based on numbers.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 10/03/2020 23:29

Coranavirus has been exposed to Nadine Dorries.
It should self-isolate.

Devlesko · 10/03/2020 23:31

How very convenient, oh well she'll have been in contact with them all.
A nice 2 week self isolation for them all, whilst a deadly virus spreads throughout the rest of us, just in time to peak for Easter.

I'm so very sorry for her, and hope she has no complications.
