Aesop, read Loppy above you.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/03/2020 00:37

Oh shit. Her poor mum.

Much as I loathe her, yeah, her poor mum. I'd be really worried.

Cremebrule · 11/03/2020 00:48

This is potentially very serious in terms of who might have to be in self-isolation or potentially affected by the virus. If she was at Cobra or in contact with the CMO and his team then we’ve suddenly lost some very important people for a few weeks if needing to self-isolate. At some point they might have to effectively isolate some cabinet members so they can step in if others go down, split up the PM and a deputy etc.

Graphista · 11/03/2020 01:07

“Of course she should have had priority testing, if the health department is wiped out by the virus what do you think happens to the country?” Errr nothing much different to now based on this govts level of sheer incompetence to be honest! There are millions of civil servants who will ensure things continue as usual too.

“Coranavirus has been exposed to Nadine Dorries.
It should self-isolate.” Pretty close to my initial internal mental reaction of “oh well seems apt”

She’s really not the brightest or most compassionate Mp!

“ I call BS myself, they’re afraid and want to close Westminster and this gives them the perfect excuse.” Yep! Thinking similarly myself. Absolute shower of chocolate fucking teapots in power at the moment!!

“Don’t be silly, of course it isn’t one rule or even two rules. Testing and self-isolation, and vaccines (if they come) are worked out on a very careful structure with different levels of priorities. We are a demographic country and as such maintaining an elected government must be a priority whether we like the people in power or not.” Irony? Please? I hope so

Isn’t stuff like this why the queen always wears gloves? Guessing they may be getting thoroughly washed —incinerated— now

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 11/03/2020 01:15

Apparently Boris and Matt Hancock have been cleared for "work" and do not need to self isolate due to the contract tracing team investigating then calculating that the chance of them contracting the virus from her as being low.

It is of course entirely possible that even though they were in the same location as each other there was no physical contact or that they were not in prolonged close proximity to each other. I would imagine that there could be a lot of worried MP's, health officials, constituents and their family members who will be very concerned though.

Hopefully she makes a full recovery and her elderly mum tests negative or also makes a full recovery.

Mintjulia · 11/03/2020 01:20

Wishing her well. Must be worrying, to say the least.

DressingGownofDoom · 11/03/2020 02:23

I'm trying really hard to muster up some sympathy but it's just not coming tbh.

Lweji · 11/03/2020 02:59

I hope it's a wake up call.
It's been the most chaotic response countries who've had health ministers infected, isn't it, though?

TeaAndDarkToast · 11/03/2020 03:05

I wish Nadine and her mum and everyone a clean bill of health asap.
I wish Boris would self isolate permanently but that's a different thread...

crazydiamond222 · 11/03/2020 04:21

In Iran 8% of parliament has been affected by covid 19 and several politicians have died. Given the age profile of parliament here it could be a sign of things to come.

Newjez · 11/03/2020 05:13

Chris whitty didn't look well during his press releases. Boris either.
I suspect they will fall like dominos now.

sashh · 11/03/2020 05:27

Coranavirus has been exposed to Nadine Dorries.
It should self-isolate.

I was thinking, well if anyone has to have it...

falcon5 · 11/03/2020 05:31

Hold on. She has self isolated when she got s positive result. Wasn't she meant to self isolate from when it was decided she met testing criteria through till tesult ss well.

PhilCornwall1 · 11/03/2020 05:40

Of course she should have had priority testing, if the health department is wiped out by the virus what do you think happens to the country?

It will more than likely run a little better than it is now.

LynetteScavo · 11/03/2020 05:42

So she held surgery on Saturday but now claims to be over the worst?

Just me who thinks this is a publicity stunt (the health minister if all people!) and when no one catches it from her and her mother is fine we all breath a sigh of relief that it's not so bad?

The alternative is many, many more people have it than we know and we are only a few days behind an explosion.

I think I prefer my conspiracy theory out if the two scenarios.

TokyoSushi · 11/03/2020 06:01

I know it's not a laughing matter but 'known fool Nadine Dorries' did make me Grin

You really couldn't make it up!

Charlesthekingcavalier · 11/03/2020 06:04

Of course she the rules would’ve been bent to test her. She’s the health minister who’s in contact with the Prime Minister. FFS

TokyoSushi · 11/03/2020 06:09

I'd forgotten that Boris has since been at the service at Westminster Abbey, oh....

Depressedbywork · 11/03/2020 06:55

Whatever you think of Nadine Dorris/government I don’t think it is fair to blame almost anyone for catching covid19. If it’s her fault for not washing her hands enough then presumably you agree it is for everyone else.

AuntieStella · 11/03/2020 07:01

Why always the health ministers?

Because a) they spend more time round people who hang out with sick people and b) they are (probably) more readily tested if they are symptomatic.

I hope she did self-isolate as soon as she thought it was a serious possibility. I wonder how she got on with the 111 triage? Because I am wondering if it bounced her, but a staff member was able to override 'the computer says no'

If that was the case, then I hope she gets on to getting the computer fixed

Also, it'll prompt the government, I hope, to really look at different ways of working. Do they need meetings of so many people in one room, especially if the only reason is that is how it's always been done

Hellodotdotdot · 11/03/2020 07:02

So the whole of parliament with catch it and get the best treatment/priority in hospitals to ensure they survive. Whilst normal people end up dying because theres not enough hospital beds

RoseAndRose · 11/03/2020 07:05

Do those who have been in close contact need to self-isolate ?

A lot of people must have been within 2-4metres of her for >15 minutes around the time she became symptomatic.

Including a lot of ministers, MPs and senior officials

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2020 07:07

She's my MP.

I find it hard to believe she was actually in the constituency. She is known to live 100s of miles away and only visited it twice during the election campaign. There would be something of a sad irony is she had brought it to mid Beds, it being one of the places without CV thus far.

She is worried about her mum and that is concerning.

It is probably good in some ways that a high profile figure has CV : it shows it is a real threat.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2020 07:08

Also, she's an ex nurse, so I am sure she followed protocols and behaved sensibly re hand washing etc.
