Shows that the hand washing isn't enough and the government has not taken robust enough precautions to protect the population. There is clearly community transmission so the number of cases will be being vastly underreported. Schools are not allowing children to even carry out the extra hand washing and so can't/won't/aren't safe guarding children in even the way government advice says to do. Whilst children do not in general seem to succumb badly there are plenty of immunocompromised children and immunocompromised relatives who healthy children will have contact with. I feel Teri my sorry for the ministers mother who is now showing symptoms and may be made very ill by this.

Lweji · 11/03/2020 07:20

Also, she's an ex nurse, so I am sure she followed protocols and behaved sensibly re hand washing etc

  • So the whole of parliament with catch it and get the best treatment/priority in hospitals”

As MPs, when Parliament is sitting, tend to live within the Division Bell, that means they will end up in St Thomas, along with everyone else who lives in that bit of central/south London

I sensible measure would be for Parliament to rise early - say by the end of this week? Then MPs to self isolate for 14 days, then return to constituencies until parliament resumes

I wish Easter was a bit earlier this year

MissEliza · 11/03/2020 07:23

Schools are not allowing children to carry out the extra hand washing. Where did you get that from? It's not true in the school I work in nor my dc's school. There was a man on our local radio complaining his dc's school was making them wash their hands too often.

RancidOldHag · 11/03/2020 07:24

And Boris went to see the flood victims

Yes, he'd rather been in the pillories for not going, hadn't he?

ElderAve · 11/03/2020 07:26

I actually think this is huge for the stability if the country. Of course a senior government official should be tested if there was any concern at all but if they can't pin point where she got it and/or it wasn't through the current channels the NHS is telling us are the only risk, something needs to change swiftly.

She must have had direct contact with a lot of senior people and others, working in government and despite the jokes, we are in trouble if they're all incapacitated.

crazydiamond222 · 11/03/2020 07:31

"So the whole of parliament with catch it and get the best treatment/priority in hospitals”

I wonder if they will follow the three wise men protocol when treating MPs. As many are aged they should be low priority
www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-uk-deaths-nhs-intensive-care-flu-wise-men-protocol-a9361916.html
It would be somewhat ironic given that they are responsible for the situation in the first place.

lumpy76 · 11/03/2020 07:37

@MissEliza I have children in 2 different secondary schools. They've not even had a notice to wash hands. At one they've been told washing hands isn't a reason to be late for their next lesson. Neither school has hand gel and soap has run out. My yr 9 said the only chance he had to wash his hands was at lunchtime. Same for my primary aged child.

AuntieStella · 11/03/2020 07:37

"we are in trouble if they're all incapacitated"

Yes, if it's at the same time. This is where we need social distancing ASAP, plus real support for self isolation.

And creative approaches to working from isolation. Appreciation of how difficult/impossible it is to do when you have DC (MPs who have both London and constituency houses have options unavailable to most people).

We can't stop it, but we can spread the peak. Unfortunately this shows that handwashing is not sufficient, and that community spread is occurring in central London

coronaworry · 11/03/2020 07:53

Will now be interesting to see the gap between rich and poor survival rates when it does the rounds in Parliament etc
I think it’ll show there’s a big link between your income and survival rates and the care you can access plus how quickly you get tested and treated/supported

Jerseygaly · 11/03/2020 07:55

I'm also swinging between it's not true, given quick recovery and notice they will close if they have a case

And going
Clearly we all knew figures were bs.
Due to criteria.
They wanted no-one to know how much it's spread already.
Criminal really as many vulnerable people going around convinced they are safe.
Personally I've felt that for a while. Especially if they say a peak in 2w. We must all already be infected.....
Especially if it takes 7-10d to feel bad after the fever.

Also it goes back to
It is said people don't need masks.
The implications that Hand washing is enough. But you can get it from being stood near them.
Then saying no evidence we should be reducing large gatherings.

Imo they have done the complete opposite of their plan so far. Not tried to contain it at all. Not socially distanced.
And it looks incredibly suspicious.....

NotTerfNorCis · 11/03/2020 08:03

Coranavirus has been exposed to Nadine Dorries. It should self-isolate.

Grin
MissEliza · 11/03/2020 08:09

@lumpy76 sorry that's happening in your dc's school. You should kick up a stink.

mylittlewoodenword · 11/03/2020 08:27

The government behaviour is truly criminal. They will cause the NHS to shut down as there would be too many cases to handle. Not closing schools and cancelling events caused the virus to spread further. The government would all get a treatment as a priority, what about other people that would not get the bed as they caused the virus to spread beyond capabilities. They should be accountable for it! They are the one that failed us!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 11/03/2020 08:32

I hope she recovers fast.

I'm a bit confused why they're keeping parliament open tbh, the HoL especially surely are a fairly high risk group.

ElderAve · 11/03/2020 08:43

Using current advice, there would be no need to close parliament. A school in the same situation would be advised to ask those sitting next to her to self isolate. Everyone else carrys on as normal.

middleager · 11/03/2020 08:46

Elder Let's see if they model that Hmm or if it's one rule for us and one rule for another.

WaterSheep · 11/03/2020 09:08

Let's see if they model that Hmm or if it's one rule for us and one rule for another.

I predict outrage from staff and parents if parliament closes. Schools have been told they can and should stay open, and it will be interesting if parliament follows their advice.

Jerseygaly · 11/03/2020 09:36

I feel we need to send a message to them that they WILL be held accountable for not trying to slow the spread so nhs can cope

mylittlewoodenword · 11/03/2020 09:41

I agree!!!

middleager · 11/03/2020 09:49

Health minister Nadine Dorries has today revealed one of her staff has now 'gone down' with coronavirus after she tested positive and went into self-isolation for the next fortnight.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8099279/Nadine-Dorries-reveals-one-parliamentary-staff-coronavirus.html

ElderAve · 11/03/2020 09:50

So which is it? We will be outraged if they do close or if they dont? Grin

HappydaysArehere · 11/03/2020 09:54

So Boris should be self isolating now for 14 days
Would we really notice? Or am I being too unkind Grin

ElderAve · 11/03/2020 09:56

Only if he was within 2 meters for 15 mins or more, or she actually coughed on him.

coconuttelegraph · 11/03/2020 10:09

I have children in 2 different secondary schools. They've not even had a notice to wash hands

Tbf though that's a failing of one school, you can't extrapolate from that to say anything about other schools. I've had a message from my DCs school saying they are encouraging pupils to wash their hands, it's a school by school thing.

Whilst it's not good for the individuals and their families having CV affect parliament could well be a good thing as it will make MPs of all parties fully aware of the situation.
