I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

Happy birthday gothamCakeFlowers

andratuttobene · 14/03/2020 11:30

De-lurking to say happy birthday gotham, sorry about your party. I will raise a glass with you tonight in spirit!

There is a very good (and reassuring) summary of what the UK government is attempting to achieve with its herd immunity approach, and why it differs from what other nations are doing from twitter user @iandonald_psych if anyone cares to take a look.

Something that really helps me keep my mood positive is listening to audiobooks that are like balm for the soul while walking DDog and going to sleep. Especially recommend any by Barbara Pymm, and things like Nancy Mitford’s The Pursuit of Love. Hilarious, light and with a good dash of Blitz Spirit thrown in for good measure - which I think we all could do with at the moment!!

I know some anxious people are coming here to calm their worries, but a couple of specific posters seem to be intent on ignoring requests to keep this thread light. Please go and post on any of the other hundred threads running rather than coming here and wanting/expecting others to talk you down.

Callybrid · 14/03/2020 11:35

Happy Birthday Gotham! Cake so sorry about your party; hope your day feels special despite that disappointment.

Thanks for the link to Scottish patient’s story Rassy - very reassuring.

Did a big shop this morning - was listening out for coughing but didn’t hear a single person. Apart from toilet roll and porridge oats good stocks of everything.

Today I’m using cv as an excuse to get in touch with old friends and ask how they’re doing. It’s sunny up here so going to try to get everyone out for some Vitamin D too.

Canshopwillshop · 14/03/2020 12:00

Happy birthday Gotham I hope you can rearrange and have a belated birthday bash in a few months maybe? Thanks for the cake 🍰

CaveMum · 14/03/2020 12:04

DH and I both had a horrible virus about 6 weeks ago, me first then him a week later. Lots of coughing and fatigue, DH had a fever but I didn’t. We’ve both only started feeling normal again in the last week or so. Who knows if it could have been Coronavirus.

Had a bad nights sleep, took ages to drop off and then DD woke with a nightmare at 4am. She got into bed with me but is like an octopus in bed so I didn’t get much sleep after that.

Spudlet · 14/03/2020 12:25

@cavemum We had a nasty bug over half term as well. We dismissed it as a cold at the time, but we are half-wondering now....

Just back from the supermarket. All normal and plenty of loo roll on the shelves! Although not many baked beans. I am concerned for the baked bean but not loo roll stock-pilers, they may have made a crucial tactical error there ShockGrin

Anyway - we’re ok. Keeping on top of things as much as we can.

Gothamgirl1970 · 14/03/2020 12:44

Here is the cake for us but we need to wait until 7.

Meanwhile I have done a deep clean of the kitchen and bathrooms and changed all the beds.

I know we are all worried and in the dark so please everybody try to do some self care, a nice bath, cook something, special cup of tea, a little chat here, maybe a Netflix alone or with the family. X

Can anyone suggest any good, uplifting and funny films on Netflix? Watched The Hustle with Anne Hathway and Rebel Wilson recently which was just what I needed!

Gothamgirl1970 · 14/03/2020 12:46

@spudlet hahahahaha

DaffodilThatch · 14/03/2020 12:47

@Rassy we watched 'Blocked' last night, found it very funny! It is a bit rude though Grin

Rassy · 14/03/2020 12:47

Happy Birthday @Gothamgirl1970 - cake looks great Smile

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 12:50

Radio 4 is funny atm, comedy but about coronavirus

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 14/03/2020 13:33

I have finished a really difficult course... all project work in and exams done.

Looks like my work will be cancelled (freelance lecturer) for the foreseeable so I am going to do some craft and read the books I got for Christmas!

gingerbreadslice · 14/03/2020 13:34

Love this thread just wondered if anyone here is a smoker? I currently am I keep trying to give up but then failing soon as I try! However I've heard it's quite bad for smokers so now trying again to quit.
I have noticed even the most rational people I know have turned into maniacs. Really happy I found this thread I feel calm again and my moods lifting. Hope everyone has a brilliant weekend.
An sorry in advance if I've worried anyone about the smoking just this is my biggest concern atm around it, other than smoking I'd say I'm in good health but still panicking

SureTry · 14/03/2020 13:45

Happy Birthday Gothamgirl! 🎂🎁

tobee · 14/03/2020 13:53

Happy Birthday Gothamgirl!

🍰🍷🥳

tobee · 14/03/2020 13:58

Self help for me:- cup of tea and watching old black & white film I've seen a million times.

Will change my sheets later as I love getting into clean sheets. Ahh!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 13:58

Ginger I read it is the best time to quite if you can - you can even get tablets from the doctor, my friend used them it really helped her.

Fleabag, Mum and Motherland could be good funny shows on player to watch...

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 14:01

To the PP who have had nasty viruses, my any change have you had lingering headaches and sore throats / eyes? I have a stash of opiates (well co-codomols) and working my way through them...

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 14:10

Oh yes, clean sheets! If I were rich I’d have them every day - and someone to change and wash them! It’s lovely how we’re all appreciating the little things that enhance life.

Eebahgumlass · 14/03/2020 14:11

Hello- puppy photo as promised. He is so so cute. Having a little nap after exploring.

Ooooooh, you can just see how silky his coat is. What a little honey.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 14:21

In the shadow enjoy the time, you have earned it. Flowers

Totally get the craving for familiarity, also just put clean sheets on - very nice. Listened to programme on Radio 4 going on about the virus etc in a very radio 4 type way which in itself was oddly calming.
