Can you think of any?
Mine are mainly to do with climate change and reducing our carbon foot print.
So fewer going on cruises and flying would be great for the planet.
Less reliance of far eastern goods would also be great.

People have stopped talking about Brexit quite so much.Grin

Positives of the coronavirus? Idiots are more likely to die of it.

So make sure your family keeps a good eye on you.

Interesting prospective - Idiots are more likely to die of it!!
As one of the 'Idiots' with a congenital heart condition and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease I sure am suitably chased and will give myself a good old wobble for being such an idiot!

Population control.

cormorantyes · 06/03/2020 20:19

Maybe norovirus rates will fall due to the hand washing?
I did think today if all schools shut and families confined to their homes for 2 weeks it would be an ideal opportunity to get rid of head lice.

Snowy111 · 06/03/2020 20:26

I think it’s very possible that this is a government made virus to reduce the cost of looking after the elderly, both in terms of pensions and healthcare. And there is an environmental impact. Personally I could never say this is a good point but where money talks, our leaders have form.

Our Society accepts death- as long as it’s not too close to home. Look at the refuges or economic migrants dying in the med. It’s horrific, absolutely horrific. We voted brexit as we don’t want “them” in our country. We don’t vote for politicians who are compassionate.

Wildthyme · 06/03/2020 20:28

Population control

Found the Malthusian.

KenDodd · 06/03/2020 20:30

I think coronavirus might save the NHS.
The NHS will be overwhelmed, but it will cope a million times better than the American system, it will serve Rich and poor alike including those who would normally go private. We will value it more and push for it to be funded better instead of just wanting to pay less tax.

*Clutching at straws and looking for any day of sunshine I can.

Tableclothing · 06/03/2020 20:30

Might attenuate the pension/social care crisis.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 06/03/2020 20:33

Well it's not wrong. If we're on a thread talking about positives of a deadly virus spreading throughout the world at a accelerated rate it's not going to be sunshine and roses is it?

It's true.
Overpopulation is killing this planet and it's inhabitants.

But nobody will sign up to a Government sanctioned child limit.
Or forced sterilisation.
Can't go Mayan and start killing off everyone when they get to old.

So what exactly is the plan?

At least with a global virus nobody gets blamed.

bellinisurge · 06/03/2020 20:38

You can spot who the idiots are because they think it's just a cold and it's all a con from the main stream media.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 06/03/2020 20:52

@bellinisurge I've actually heard someone say they don't believe it's real!! That they don't know anyone with it and it's only on the news and it's all fake!!

I thought it was a joke. It was not.

KenDodd · 06/03/2020 20:57

@bellinisurge
They seem to be mostly Leave voters on mine, might be something to do with experts...?

Comps83 · 06/03/2020 20:57

Better personal hygiene

Stripeyfrog · 06/03/2020 20:58

I'm worried that Corona headlines will detract from unpleasant policies that the government might be planning/implementing.
From a personal POV it's made me more aware of not eating or drinking on public transport as I dont want to eat without first washing my hands and cant find hand sanitizer for love nor money

Doubletrouble99 · 06/03/2020 23:05

I also hope it will show up Trump for the numpty he is and what a crap health system they have in the US.

OP posts:
daisypond · 06/03/2020 23:09

My normally horrendous commute on public transport in London seems a little less crushed.

WreathsAndRopes · 06/03/2020 23:11

Fuel prices have dropped apparently because China is buying less and they normally import loads (I forget the detail).

Evilcountspatula · 06/03/2020 23:18

The end of zero hours contracts which effectively mean no sick pay for the first four days of being sick. Inexcusable in a civilised society, terrifying when you consider that these are the terms that people like hospital cleaners are on. Maybe I’m too idealistic but I genuinely hope that recent events will lead to a change in legislation around this issue.

daisypond · 06/03/2020 23:29

More awareness of what jobs really matter and benefit society if all workers stay at home and can’t go to work, and ultimately better pay and condition for those workers.

Porpoises · 06/03/2020 23:29

Businesses might realise that teleconferencing and home working can be just as productive as flying their staff around the world for meetings. This would help the planet.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 06/03/2020 23:30

Meetings that drag you to the other end of the country that could've been sent in an email might actually be sent in a fucking email!!

Fatted · 06/03/2020 23:32

The share prices of Dettol sky rocket?!

People actually wash their hands?!
