Now the whole country is designated as a place that requires self isolation if you visit and later feel unwell with symptoms that may be the Covid 19.
How likely is it that the advice will change to Do Not Go.

The FCO should declare ALL Italy a no go zone, it's ridiculous.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/03/2020 22:00

No I wouldn’t

The government need to be clearer at the moment those who are already in the lockdown areas of northern Italy have been told they can stay yet for locals breaking the curfew could lead to a jail sentence

I think by Easter travel will be limited substantially

middleager · 08/03/2020 22:15

Fergus Walsh BBC News

"Time to prepare is running out"
"We must take it seriously" (with regard to not overwheming NHS)
"Vast majority will get a mild case"

He spoke about the problem of shutting schools re healthcare workers and childcare.

Wigeon · 08/03/2020 22:16

Oh dear, FCO advice is now that you will have to self-isolate on return to UK if you go to all the lockdown areas in N Italy (not just the original 10 towns), even if you don’t have any symptoms: see here.

Guess that’s the final nail in the coffin of our trip to Venice...Gonna cancel the Naples bit too - with all the museums shut, it won’t be much fun, especially since we planned the whole holiday around going to Pompeii! (Which is also closed).

Sarcelle · 08/03/2020 22:20

Man with underlying health issues has died in Manchester hospital. Believed to have been in Italy recently. Should concentrate the mind. Not worth going, however much you lose.

middleager · 08/03/2020 22:21

Sorry - wrong thread!

SmellyBeard · 08/03/2020 23:04

@Cocoaone

We also heard that lots of people left before the curfew last night - but from family based over in Italy, so I suspect it's true.

We are supposed to fly to Verona for Easter but won't be going now.

QueenOfPain · 08/03/2020 23:07

My parents are skiing in Turin at present. They say that it’s absolutely dead there and they think the resort and ski lifts will be closing down tomorrow. They intend to fly home to the uk and self isolate for the two weeks (despite no symptoms) if that turns out to be the case.

PsychoWiener · 08/03/2020 23:23

We're due to go to Sorrento mid May to visit our wedding venue. So bloody excited and now gutted that we probably won't go. We have a 1 year old so I wouldn't want to risk him catching it or us catching it and passing on to someone in the high risk group. DP works from home though so would be easy for us to self isolate. Just hope they place a travel ban so we can get our money back.

Chilobster · 08/03/2020 23:24

That would be a hard no from me.

bumblingbovine49 · 08/03/2020 23:39

,We're due to go to Sorrento mid May to visit our wedding venue.

All weddings have been cancelled in the lockdown zone.at least until 3 April . If numbers rise in the south ( which after the exodus of people down there just before the lockdown ,seems particularly likely now) then they may do the same there but later in the year.

PsychoWiener · 08/03/2020 23:56

@bumblingbovine49 we're not getting married til July next year so hopefully it's all sorted by then! I don't know what we'll do otherwise Sad

bumblingbovine49 · 09/03/2020 00:18

@ PsychoWeiner

I think you should be alright for July next year. It will be endemic well before then as a lot.of people will be immune well before the end of the year I'd imagine. There will have been a lot of death but the initial crisis should be over . We may even have a vaccine or at least some treatments that help Smile.

I hope it all works out for you.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/03/2020 00:38

Our whole trip was based on wanting to go see Pompeii. Which is closed until 3rd April. We go on the 6th but I doubt anything much will change by then. Sad

mrssunshinexxx · 09/03/2020 00:46

No I wouldn't go it's completely selfish
It's a matter of time until the government put a stop on all none urgent travel and this should of been done weeks ago

Seymoursyourfriend · 09/03/2020 01:03

We have booked, and paid for, a family cruise around Spain, France and Italy from May 2nd, to celebrate my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary. Hoping the Govt or cruise company stop us from going tbh so we won't lose the money paid. Its cost us over £15k between us all. Apparently if we cancel we won't get refunded. If its a Govt or Company decision we will.

Sgtmajormummy · 09/03/2020 01:15

I know this is cheeky and MN might want to take this post down BUT...

I’m in the opposite situation to you. I live in NE Italy and had planned to go on my annual break to the U.K. at the end of April.
Now, for all the reasons you’ve discussed here, I’ve decided to cancel our trip.
If you’re interested in a week (24/4-1/5) self catering in the Victorian Osborne crescent in Torquay, you can send me a private message. They’re currently offering weeks for over £1000. I’d ask MUCH less.
osborneapartments.co.uk/

I have to warn you, though. Two cases of Corona Virus infection have been reported in the Torbay area (kids returning from an Italian holiday).
Blush
There really is no escaping it.

Kawahara · 09/03/2020 05:23

Our whole trip was based on wanting to go see Pompeii. Which is closed until 3rd April.

When did they close it? It was open this week.

Kawahara · 09/03/2020 05:26

Sorry forgot to say I wanted to know so i can inform the school. It may form part of the decision, the kids were there this week and in the museum.

Wigeon · 09/03/2020 07:20

@Kawahara - I imagine it closed at the same time as Italy announced the closure of all museums across Italy, which was a few days ago. I think we checked yesterday and saw the attached notice on their website.

Italy in April. Would you?
PelicanPie · 09/03/2020 07:26

If the govt advise to cancel all non urgent travel, I assume the insurance companies will all have to pay out and probably go bust in the process?

PsychoWiener · 09/03/2020 07:32

@bumblingbovine49 Thank youSmile

Kawahara · 09/03/2020 07:35

@Wigeon wow! The kids were lucky they got there and came home when they did.

They got back yesterday (8th).

That was my biggest fear, they wouldn't get home for a while. I can imagine by the end of this week, theres the potential for it all to br a no go zone.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 09/03/2020 07:38

Museums have been opening and closing all the time in Italy! A few weeks ago they all closed in our town. Then they decided that they could open them but limit numbers. Now they have closed again.

Kawahara · 09/03/2020 21:10
