Funny how the people who plan to isolate themselves expect everyone else to keep working.

This.

People on here prepping to isolate themselves and their families. Taking kids out of school, not working. For how long, 18 months until a vaccine is available??

The same people expect others in the service sectors to keep working - supermarket workers, NHS staff and so on. Going on about getting all their shopping delivered and so on.

Some of the preppers / self isolators on other threads were berating NHS retirees for being worried about being asked return to work, and telling NHS nurses who were voicing worries about isolation and childcare that they should lose their jobs.

Selfish irrational weirdos. I don’t know anyone in real life like this but seems like there are dozens hiding away on here.

@bellinisurge I’m not sure what you want me to say. You had something you didn’t need that you needed someone else to dispose of. Thanks??

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:21

2 week self isolation. That's all you have to think about. And even thinking of that is too shocking and inflammatory for you.
Don't ask me to do your shopping for you. Because I'll probably be having to tool around at home for two weeks too. But at least I have enough bog roll.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:23

Should I have disposed of my late father's morphine myself? Or was he being one of those pesky patients who didn't use up all his meds before he died?
You aren't making sense. You said people hoard medicine they no longer need. I told you how I didn't. And I did that wrong too.

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:23

I’m so pleased for you. You can use that to wipe away your tears while you sit alone surrounded by your tinned goods and a flashlight.

OP posts:
LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:24

@bellinisurge why would you hoard morphine or see it as an altruistic event that you gave it back?

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:29

Two weeks. Two sodding weeks. That's nothing. Why would I need a flashlight. The power will be on. The water will be running. Why do you think it wouldn't? Why do you think I'd think it wouldn't?
You really don't know what a prepper is, do you?

PotholeParadise · 05/03/2020 14:30

Ohhhhh-kay, this has gone bizarre.

Yes, people ordering too much medication before their demise is a problem for the NHS. When you return it, you're not returning it for redistribution, you're returning it for safe disposal.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:30

@IheartNiles , you accused Preppers of being people who hoarded prescription medication. I told you that I didn't. But you seem to think that's a big deal.

Nicepud · 05/03/2020 14:30

bellinisurge I'd give up on this thread to be honest. I did.

Nothing you say will get through as Op is clearly anxious and bitter about those she thinks have it 'easier' (i.e could give up work without disrupting anything).

Devlesko · 05/03/2020 14:31

I too don't agree with people being brought out of retirement, as a doctor said on the news, he's been retired 5 years and so much has changed/ done differently, He stated he wouldn't feel safe or his patients.
I have a few extra things, do I pass your test?

I also happen to have a cupboard (huge) full of anti bac hand gel, so shoot me.
Not as a prepper but bought a few each month for my dd at school. They then placed a huge dispenser outside every door, and I mean every door. Grin So mine ended up with a cupboard full that she brought home. If school runs out she can share some with her dorm.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:32

Op started off with a common sense concern about people taking service workers on low pay for granted. Which I totally agree with. Then the odd shit started.

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:35

@Nicepud I can give u work tomorrow. I might decide to do that soon. If people want to self isolate please go ahead, it’s no skin off my nose to never run into any of you in real life. In fact I’d be happier not to. But don’t expect me to sit silently while people who hoard and isolate expect others to keep the country running.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:36

But I don't expect people to serve me while in isolation. Preppers don't.

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:37

You can all keep some extra put aside and of course if you are told to isolate yourselves please go ahead. But I won’t be told that extreme hoarding and self imposed isolation, while expecting others to keep things running is anything other than weird, selfish behaviour.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:37

Again , I don't expect others to keep things running for me. Kinda the point of prepping. Actual prepping.

MotherOfDragonite · 05/03/2020 14:38

"And yes I will carry on working and helping people through this."

Are you nuts? The official statistics suggest that up to 80% of the population is likely to get coronavirus, and of those 20% get it severely. You can't guarantee that you'll be able to carry on working through it. It's lovely that you are working now, so am I, and so are most people.

You have completely missed the point here. The point isn't about expecting other people to keep the country running. The point is that a relatively high percentage of other people are likely to NOT be around to keep the country running.

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:38

So if you or your family got very sick you’d self care then, you wouldn’t take up a hospital bed because you are totally self sufficient in your bunker. Fine. Good luck with that.

OP posts:
MotherOfDragonite · 05/03/2020 14:39

@IheartNiles you make no sense

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:41

No. As I have MS, it's rather a consideration. I'm encouraging people who can to take care of themselves and to get out of the way of emergency services- likely to be a scarce resource anyway.
Why should anyone be worried about bringing you a pot noodle when they have better things to do but you are avoidably hangry.

Nicepud · 05/03/2020 14:41

Ok IheartNiles but I still haven't seen (bar a very few nasty posters on the nurses thread) any reason for you to think this is a widespread problem?

You seem to have a general dislike of preppers, despite saying it is not 'us' you are talking about (but then who is it, bar two people on an mm thread?)

And you have just been viciously nasty to Bellini for no reason that I can see.

Clearly you have some anxieties/issues goingnon at the moment, but surely you can see that some of this thread is just mean/bizarre?

If what was happening in your op was actually an isuue I would completely agree with your concerns by the way.

Willow2017 · 05/03/2020 14:52

Preppers seem to think that if the worst came to the worst and services stopped running they could hunker down with their stockpiles having emptied the shelves and wait it out.

Again with the preppers have emptied the shelves stuff. How is it you still cannot get your head around the fact that preppers DO NOT empty the shelves. I think you are deliberately continuing in this vein just to be goady. Nobody can be that thick.

Oh and fyi many preppers could wait it out as they have done the prep and have the skills to use it. Not many of us regular small time preppers but more than you would know as they dont spout it all over their neighbourhood.

Sunshinesky1981 · 05/03/2020 14:53

Well this has escalated Shock

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:58

The fact that some people refer to themselves as ‘preppers’ with a sort of pride is in itself worrying. You might want to think about help for anxiety when this is over.

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 05/03/2020 15:00

My words have obviously hit a tiny guilty receptor in your brain.

Grin this was one of the 'sayings' that was on a thread recently about useless sound bites thrown out on MN that annoy the heck out of people as it basically means "I dont have a coherent argument because I know you are right but I will just turn it around and say i hit a nerve with you to cover that up."
You are deliberately ignoring the explainations of people who prep, how they rotate stores, why they do it, how it works, that nothing is wsted (how on earth do you come to the conclusion that prepping is wasting food anyway?) just to continue sneering and acting all superior in you minimalist world.

Pretty pathetic from supposed adults really.

Devlesko · 05/03/2020 15:05

OP, are you OK?
Your posts just aren't making any sense to a lot of people.
Why are you so bitter and jealous of others, even ill people.
You are supposed to care, I find this completely weird and bizarre tbh.
