Funny how the people who plan to isolate themselves expect everyone else to keep working.

This.

People on here prepping to isolate themselves and their families. Taking kids out of school, not working. For how long, 18 months until a vaccine is available??

The same people expect others in the service sectors to keep working - supermarket workers, NHS staff and so on. Going on about getting all their shopping delivered and so on.

Some of the preppers / self isolators on other threads were berating NHS retirees for being worried about being asked return to work, and telling NHS nurses who were voicing worries about isolation and childcare that they should lose their jobs.

Selfish irrational weirdos. I don’t know anyone in real life like this but seems like there are dozens hiding away on here.

Perhaps it might be an idea to sort your pantry out at ho e do that you aren't the problem the emergency services have to fix. They can focus on people who really need it.

Willow2017 · 05/03/2020 13:58

A hoarder of supplies is an extreme prepper. Someone who has ridiculous stockpiles to last them for months. If those people willingly come out and share with others then I would faint in disbelief.

If the person has bought stuff themselves over years then how the hell does that ever impact on you? Its not impacting on shops now because its taken months or years to build up use and resupply as and when needed.
Why the hell should they share with people who cant be arsed to do anything for themselves?
Go out and add 3 or 4 things to your own shop every week it soon adds up. Buy things on offer like the rest of us did. Hell go to a supermarket in the pm and get a shed load of bread and other stuff for pennies then use the money you would have spent on a bag of pasta or tins of whatever you like. Its really not difficult just savvy shopping.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:00

If your a minimalist stuck in the house for two weeks in self isolation, I suppose you can theoretically wipe your arse with uplifting thoughts.

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:00

I don’t want to stockpile, thanks. It’s inherently selfish, wasteful behaviour. But keep it coming, you’re starting to reveal yourselves.

Again, if, as you rightly point out, delivery drivers are likely to be affected. Who will bring you a couple of sheets of toilet paper to add to the couple of sheets you have?

HoffiCoffi13 · 05/03/2020 14:02

Again, I’m not a prepper, and have just looked through my cupboards and reckon I’d have enough to feed all 5 of us comfortably for about 3 days. But I don’t think it’s wasteful is it? From what I’ve read preppers tend to have a rotation system, so things get used and replaced before use by dates are reached.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:02

Why is it wasteful if I use all I have and keep it on rotation?

KahlanRahl · 05/03/2020 14:04

I don’t want to stockpile, thanks. It’s inherently selfish, wasteful behaviour.

It's not because it isn't taking away from anyone. Nobody ate any less just because I bought a few extra beans and tins 5 months ago. Why do you call it selfish?

KahlanRahl · 05/03/2020 14:05

And I don't wast because I only buy what I use, I just use it a few months later. I buy what I normally eat.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:05

I grow most of my own vegetables- good and bad harvest permitting. My veg food miles are measured in metres? How is that wasteful.
I reuse plastics for gardening supplies?
How is that wasteful?
I put any unused fruit and veg in my compost bin?
How is that wasteful?
I make reusable sanpro for my dd, often from old T-shirts etc.
How is that wasteful?

KahlanRahl · 05/03/2020 14:05

I truely think that you don't know how prepping works OP.

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:07

@bellinisurge maybe I can wash my arse with the tap. You need to have a lie down I think. My words have obviously hit a tiny guilty receptor in your brain.

How do you stockpile prescription meds anyway? GPs, quite rightly, only allow a certain amount per period of time. Mine are monthly. Couldn’t hoard if I wanted to. This is where a lot of my no deal brexit anxiety comes from - the worry I will not get my meds...

Write to your MP.
Or are they too wasteful too?

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:10

I was brought up Irish Catholic. Guilt is what we do😂😂😂

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:10

@4cats2kids when a person with chronic illness dies their family normally return bags and bags of prescription medicines to the pharmacy. They do hoard, believe me. People under different specialists often ask each specialist to top up their medicines. This is partly why hospital pharmacies rarely dispense more than a month. But they still manage to hoard.

I buy day to day as I can’t abide waste
Who is wasting food then?
I have stuff with bbf dates of 2021, 2022 and 2024. It will all be used i havent bought anything we dont eat regularly anyway.

I would waste money if i was to shop every day!

What are you going to do if the shops sre empty of essentials for a fes days then? Oh i know just keep moaning about those terrible people that prepared for that very eventuality who are not dishing out their own supply they bought to feed thier families, to you.!

Being proud to be a 'minimalist' isnt going to feed you if tshtf.

Its becoming more apparent where you are coming from op. Another "i cant be bothered so someone else who has bothered can bail me out" view.

4cats2kids · 05/03/2020 14:11

It’s not wasted. You build up stock, then slowly use and replace...

Devlesko · 05/03/2020 14:12

OP, the only person revealing themselves is you.
For a nurse you have a very closed mind, I know several and can't say as I've seen this attitude it's not conducive to the caring professions. Shock maybe time to self isolate after going shopping, perhaps you'll have empathy and sympathy for others after a break.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:13

@IheartNiles when my father died of cancer we brought all his morphine in. When my mother died of cancer we brought all her meds in too.
Your point is?

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:17

@bellinisurge every single one of those medicines would have been thrown away. You cannot redistribute medicines as you don’t know how they’ve been kept. Stockpiling medicines is another mechanism that is using up NHS resources.

OP posts:
LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:18

I’m very caring, and empathetic. I’m afraid that empathy doesn’t extend to people stockpiling goods for their own ultimately selfish ends.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:18

Again. I brought my dead parents medicines in. They didn't need the prescription any more because they had died.
You point?

LucheroTena · 05/03/2020 14:18

I won’t be asking or begging people for food and supplies, no. Because it won’t come to that. You’re all hysterical. I’ve never heard such madness.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 14:19

People buying food for themselves shocker😂😂😂
