There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

As normal here too, London yesterday followed by a night out last night, competitive swimming for us today too @estherfrewen, also football.

estherfrewen · 08/03/2020 16:19

Hope the gala went well, @ExpletiveDelighted!

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2020 16:26

Atm the positive benefit of being out and doing stuff, not curtailed, out weighs the very small risk of getting it.

Seeing other people out in the sunshine is good too, the park was packed.

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/03/2020 16:48

It went very well thanks @estherfrewen, DD hasn't been able to compete since before Christmas due to injury but is raring to go and PB'd all events. Hope yours did too.

estherfrewen · 08/03/2020 16:51

He’s been out injured most of the season and since back only swimming 3-4 times a week due to gcse revision but he was very happy. 2/4 pbs and close in the others. Well done to yours - sounds like an excellent day. We only have one gala now until post GCSEs

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/03/2020 16:53

Mine isn't in GCSE year (that's my other DC) but she's desperate to move up a training group so going all out now but I was talking to a y11 parent at the pool who said her DC had had to cut down training.

I actually cancelled a clothes and book order yesterday thinking what was the point and cancelled a concert last night. Going out for a walk today and getting a bit of perspective from here have helped.
Incidentally Chris Smith, The Naked Scientist, who is a Cambridge Virologist has been doing Q &A sometimes on the BBC news, his slots seem to calm me a bit.

Superbrew · 08/03/2020 17:55

I am new and just wanted to say thank you for all the positivity!
Also about swine flu , my son was 3 months at that time and I was absolutely terrified. I remember having plans on how I would bleach all letters , plans on how I would do shopping without exposing my kids to flu I even had plans to make my husband leave so that he wouldnt infect kids. I didnt leave my house for 3 months, so I am really feeling for you Keynote. My Dr at the time told me I have to just accept whatever will happen will happen and to do exercise, force myself to go out for walks etc. That really did help. I do think now is much worse though because the internet and media being constant in our lives.

Superbrew · 08/03/2020 17:57

I mean the constant bombardment we have of news is worse - sorry didnt make that clear.

AlandAnna · 08/03/2020 18:10

I was pregnant during swine flu and I did start driving to work instead of train but even then I don’t remember the reporting being as awful as this.

DontCallMeDarling · 08/03/2020 18:19

I think smartphones mean we are bombarded by news and notifications. I went out today and life is still normal apart from no toilet rolls in my local supermarket!!! The news seems hyper yet everybody I know in RL seems pretty chilled about it. I'm probably the least chilled about it largely because I have this holiday in less than 4 weeks and have no idea whether it will be cancelled or not, I feel like I am in limbo with no toilet tissues or hand gels to comfort me! Grin

Jrobhatch29 · 08/03/2020 18:20

@Superbrew that is how i am now. Im due in may and cannot see how i can keep a newborn baby safe from this 😭

Jrobhatch29 · 08/03/2020 18:22

Ive considered taking my kids out of school and making my partner stay at his parents so i can lock us all in x

SureTry · 08/03/2020 18:30

I was pregnant with DS1 in 2005 when Ebola was happening, pregnant with DD in 2009 for Swine flu and I now have a toddler. I just don't remember there being this level of panic. I saw the odd news report but I definitely didn't panic. I can only put it down to social media, spending way too much time on my phone, possibly being older and anxiety kicking in. (thanks peri menopause)

Thymelord · 08/03/2020 18:35

I need this thread today! My anxiety is terrible. Two cases have been confirmed in my town and I can't stop worrying. We are supposed to be going away for our wedding anniversary this Friday, and I want to cancel. Sad

Jrobhatch29 · 08/03/2020 18:35

There definitely wasnt this level of panic. The media have alot to answer for but i do think this is different x

Eebahgumlass · 08/03/2020 18:41

I really cannot remember anything at all about swine flu! I had a baby and a toddler at the time - I also had anxiety around that time. I can only think that I just didn't read the news or have so much social media. So it passed me by somehow!

AutumnRose1 · 08/03/2020 18:42

Those blaming the media, what kind of media? I’m finding the evening news switches topics after ten minutes, which is good. I don’t see it during the day.

PineappleDanish · 08/03/2020 18:46

Every day is a day closer to the end of all of this. It will end at some point, it has to.

Superbrew · 08/03/2020 18:48

Jrobhatch29 I would really recommend speaking to a Dr you trust, it helped me so much. And honestly I dont think you need to worry . Anxiety is a normal instinct for mothers to have to keep their children safe, just sometimes it becomes unhealthy for us.

The media I am being bombarded with is notifications on my phone-and I have no idea how to switch it off!

AutumnRose1 · 08/03/2020 18:51

“ The media I am being bombarded with is notifications on my phone-and I have no idea how to switch it off!”

I would go bonkers if I had news alerts on my phone, I’m surprised anyone sets it up?

Stripeyfrog · 08/03/2020 18:53

Superbrew
I got my teen DD to turn off my notifications, it's been much better!

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2020 18:54

I only get news through R4, that’s it, helps enormously.

Stripeyfrog · 08/03/2020 18:55

AutumnRose1
I definitely didnt set up news notifications, they seem to happen automatically when I upgraded my phone!

Superbrew · 08/03/2020 19:00

I didn't it's a nightmare I haven't got a clue how to switch off, I'll see if my teenager can turn off too good idea!
