There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

Thanks yes I did need a little cry I think. Nearly home which is my happy place and full of distractions. Thanks all others who handheld too

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2020 17:30

That's probably because there are so very few cases and so they don't know anyone who has got/had it.

115 cases in 66 million people, with no deaths and no critical cases, really isn't enough for it to be regarded as epidemic at the moment.

Jrobhatch29 · 05/03/2020 17:37

Did anyone watch chris witteys Q&A session with MPs this morning? I found it reassuring. I actually find him so calming to listen to ha. He said a few times that it could be like a bad flu season but in the summer. This is how im going to picture it now rather than the 80% of population scenario x

IpanemaGallina · 05/03/2020 17:37

Yes to the poster who said more hand washing to be the norm after this is all over. Less norovirus and thread worms in schools please!

tud41 · 05/03/2020 17:41

Here's another example of when the media use a small fact and try and turn it into something terrifying.. This was the bbc as well which just makes me angry...

Iran to closes schools and universities until early April.... Now while that sounds like an extreme measure and technically the facts are correct, what they fail to. Mention in the story is that Iran have a public holiday until early April that starts next Friday... So basically they have let them break up a week early... Why can't the media just say this instead of making it sound like they are on lock down for a month...

tessiegirl · 05/03/2020 17:43

First confirmed uk death just released.

MollyWindley · 05/03/2020 17:44

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread - I've always been an over thinker and this coronavirus outbreak seems to have pushed me over the edge into complete health anxiety. I may not post much, but I'll be following along and if I see any bits of positivity I will share them.

Milkwith1sugar44 · 05/03/2020 17:50

The thing is when you've got problems going on in your own life, it just adds to the whole picture and makes everything seem even worse than it should be. I just feel like crying right now.

Looneytune253 · 05/03/2020 17:54

Even if ALL the worldwide cases were within the UK it would still only be a teeny proportion of our population. Honestly this isn't as massive as people are making it out to be. The hysteria is ridiculous. They did the same with bird flu/swine flu/ Ebola and barely anyone got sick here and it just disappeared

If the sun have to report something positive they must be running out of negative stories...

Very said about the first death but it was someone with underlying health problems.. And we all need to remember these types of people would have a high chance of dying from normal flu as well... This also means at the moment our death rate is well below 1%

Stripeyfrog · 05/03/2020 18:07

I saw a graph in DM this pm (for some reason my phone randomly keeps updating me with news - 99% Corona crisis related) and it was a scare story of how dramatically cases have gone up. Which to a degree is scary but then I went on the calculator to see the % of people tested v people tested positive and it was nowhere near 1% .

NemophilistRebel · 05/03/2020 18:09

The graphs across the world are to me looking to be not as steep a rise as people were predicting a few weeks ago.
That can only be a good thing for now

caricf · 05/03/2020 18:18

So glad I found this thread. I'm 9 months pregnant (due in a few weeks) and all these news reports are tipping me over to a breakdown. Can someone who's been through swine flu while they are pregnant please tell me it's not that scary, I could really do with some reassurance Smile

Keynote1 · 05/03/2020 18:27

Trying to be more positive here, I have had a runny nose and sore throat for the last week, granddaughter (4) sneezing all over the place today trying with the tissues and handwashing with her but has been a battle, panicking about symptoms but keep thinking how many people have usual cold etc at moment and trying to keep into perspective. This thread is so helpful.

Sugarmirror · 05/03/2020 18:30

Nice positive first hand experience of CV

dappledsunshine · 05/03/2020 18:31

@caricf

I was about 6 months pregnant when the swine flu outbreak began. I can't deny I was worried but I just kept up with good hand hygiene and I was fine.

The difference is the swine flu did effect pregnant women more, my understanding is that this time around there's no evidence that pregnant women are any more at risk.

NemophilistRebel · 05/03/2020 18:39

Unfortunately as a pregnant lady I have read up and CDC do put pregnant women in the high risk category

Layladylay234 · 05/03/2020 18:42

NemophilistRebel can you link the article/where you read this please?

madeyemoodysmum · 05/03/2020 18:43

DD IS NEGATIVE GrinGrinGrin

peoplepleaser1 · 05/03/2020 18:44

@madeyemoodysmum fantastic news!!!!

NemophilistRebel · 05/03/2020 18:46

@Layladylay234 you only need to google it and cdc link and the lancet will pop up.
But here’s a clear as day snapshot from the NPA

NemophilistRebel · 05/03/2020 18:47

@madeyemoodysmum fantastic!

screamer1 · 05/03/2020 18:50

Is everyone still thinking this is OTT. I'm getting very squeaky bum about it all now. I think because we just don't know how this is going to escalate.

Alsohuman · 05/03/2020 18:54

DD IS NEGATIVE

Brilliant.

And yes, it is OTT and gets more so every day.

Jrobhatch29 · 05/03/2020 18:54

Im 7 months pregnant and my pregnancy is the main cause of my anxiety. I saw my midwife today who seemed very unconcerned. She said pregnant women may be more suseptible to viruses but so far dont seem to be anymore at risk to being severly effected by coronavirus
