There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

And hand sanitizer.

God yes! Its funny how saving the planet and plastic is evil has now gone out of the window isnt it ;)

NoRoomInBed · 05/03/2020 15:34

Its mental where I live the closes covid case to me is 300ish miles away and theres no hand gel shops are putting up posters and I'm being treated like a leper. I have a cough just a normal cold cough and people have moved away from me from me clearing my throat. I was in one shop and a guy coughed into his hand then used the chip n pin machine and the shop worker went and disinfected everything that man touched.

Waterandlemonjuice · 05/03/2020 16:23

Great thread, thank you.

AlandAnna · 05/03/2020 16:24

Thanks for continuing this vital thread. I’m on the cusp of a relapse of MH anxiety issues. Actually crying on the train in fact.

Alsohuman · 05/03/2020 16:27

Please don’t cry @AlandAnna, the hype around this is ridiculous, I don’t know what’s going on with people, it’s complete madness.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/03/2020 16:31

The number of new cases shouldn’t be added to the current tally. Some of the first people are recovered and well. It’s not clear reporting.

Don’t cry lovely, the media are out to sell papers. The Royal family are out and about shaking hands. They wouldn’t do that if the risk was high.

picklemewalnuts · 05/03/2020 16:40

Hullo! Popping in to straighten my head up. I've taken some practical steps to reduce risk, and am keeping an eye on the news.

I find some small measures and chatting to the family about how to be prepared has helped me feel a bit more on top of things.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/03/2020 16:47

These people live in a paranoid echo chamber where all they want to hear is ever increasing stories of doom.

^^this is so true.

There's always doom on mumsnet about something. Global warming, Brexit, world war 3 being the main ones in the past year. At least coronavirus has quietened the anti-vaxxers, they'll be first in the queue for the vaccine I don't doubt.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/03/2020 16:50

Interestingly the DM have gone all positive on us today, obviously have decided good news will lead to more clicks.

The WHO are displaying the critical thinking skills of an average 8 year old. At least twice as many people have had it in China than the official figures show, I think the same is true for Italy. Germany OTOH have 238 cases and no deaths presumably because they have detected all the cases.

Milkwith1sugar44 · 05/03/2020 16:54

I'm so glad I found this.
I almost lost my baby to swine flu and absolutely terrified of this.
I'm trying to focus on the positives but end up in tears most days with my anxiety/ panic attacks.

Alsohuman · 05/03/2020 16:57

Am I a traitor? We currently have 34 loo rolls in the house, other than that no stockpiling at all but I have a horror of not being able to wipe my arse!

userxx · 05/03/2020 16:59

@Alsohuman Jesus christ!!!! That's a lot of arse wiping! Where the hell do you store them?

Alsohuman · 05/03/2020 17:01

You haven’t seen the size of my arse! They’re in the airing cupboard (old house and it’s massive)!

Spudlet · 05/03/2020 17:01

Remember also that although more people have tested positive and that does feel worrying, that’s still only a tiny percentage of the people who have been tested. Less than 1% of those tested have returned a positive result. The vast, vast majority of those tested have been fine.

Personally I’m hoping that all this handwashing will become a norm and we’ll all catch norovirus a bit less frequently!

peoplepleaser1 · 05/03/2020 17:06

@AlandAnna deep breaths, you might feel better after a good cry although I can understand why you'd not want to do that on the train.

It's ok to be worried, lots of us are a bit worried, but keeping it in perspective is important.

Is there anything you can do to take your mind off if?

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 05/03/2020 17:09

@littlequestion, thankyou for that link (yes, I clicked on a DM link - I shall be in the garden flagellating myself with nettles after I've posted this, if anybody wants me). It was very interesting, and very reassuring - I read just a few of the comments, and there were some by people who obviously subscribe to the "WE'RE DETERMINED WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!" school of thought. Reminded me of a thread not a million miles from this one actually...

hubblebubbletoilandtrubble · 05/03/2020 17:10

I'm new here, first ever post. Please may I join this thread? It seems sensible and some others are really scarring me

autumnleaves1966 · 05/03/2020 17:11

Jrobhatch29 I saw your post about active cases and Wembley stadium and thought it was a great analogy.

peoplepleaser1 · 05/03/2020 17:12

@Canshopwillshop thank you, it's nice to hear from someone else in the same boat.

We have a family get together tomorrow and I'm dreading all the hand wringing surrounding DS's potential trip. I will decide what to do nearer the time, I don't need everyone piling in with their red top fuelled scare stories. I'm likely to say something grumpy and everyone will sigh at me!

I've said it so many times but thank you everyone for this thread.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/03/2020 17:16

I'm likely to say something grumpy and everyone will sigh at me!

Nothing wrong with being grumpy 🤷🏻‍♀️. I'd just tell them I wasn't going to discuss it, end of conversation.

Spudlet · 05/03/2020 17:16

I’ve just sent that DM link to my very own DM, to vet and pass onto my DBro if she deems it helpful. He is a diabetic, among other health conditions and also has autism... this makes it hard for him to keep things in perspective, sometimes. He’s been very anxious about this. Hoping that link will help a bit. Thank you for posting it @littlequestion (although shift over and pass the nettles, @Zoidbergonthehalfshell)

Here is better, and I don't think there is any exam before you can join. If there is I missed it!

Think of the others as being like ghost stories told round a camp-fire: intended to scare people, but not really true. It helps.

peoplepleaser1 · 05/03/2020 17:22

@Teateaandmoretea oh I need to be brave and say something like that- although they would probably all eye roll and talk about it anyway!

See my user name- I'm rubbish at sticking up for myself!

hubblebubbletoilandtrubble · 05/03/2020 17:23

Thank you. It's scary isn't it. I've been watching it since about early February and starting to prepare a little bit, just a few extra packets of paracetamol etc. The last week or two I've felt really scared though. it does feel like people in real life are still just generally not very aware and not really wanting to discuss.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/03/2020 17:28

they would probably all eye roll and talk about it anyway!

At that point I'd calmly walk to the kitchen Smile
