What time is the big (if any) reveal?

No specific time was announced, just the afternoon of today.

Thanks for correction @TopPocketFind

Found this in the WP:

Bessent is expected to unveil the sanctions at a 1 p.m. news conference in Washington.

JadeHare · 24/08/2026 15:29

This was also in the WP:

“Trump’s coercive tactics are also failing miserably abroad. His inability to defeat Iran after almost six months has emboldened its hard-line regime; it continues to hold the Strait of Hormuz hostage and refuses to discuss its nuclear program. U.S. allies aren’t helping to reopen the strait despite Trump’s demands. Meanwhile, countries including Canada and China have pushed back against Trump’s extortionate tariffs, leading him to pull back in many instances.
Even Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, one of Trump’s few foreign friends, has defied White House pressure to withdraw from Gaza, to crack down on radical Israeli violence in the West Bank and to stop bombing Syrian military installations.”
“Trump’s ability to intimidate has dramatically eroded because the whole world has seen how empty many of his threats are. He is not, for example, going to bomb Oman. He talks big but backs down so often that “TACO” (Trump Always Chickens Out) has become a popular acronym.
Here’s a radical and undoubtedly quixotic suggestion for the final 2½ years of Trump’s presidency: Instead of trying to bludgeon the entire world into submission, maybe he should try persuasion instead. A good start would be giving serious speeches to explain and justify his policies, as previous presidents have done, rather than relying on bombastic social media posts — often designed to outrage and infuriate — to get his message out.”
Many of Trump’s goals, from ending Iran’s nuclear program to getting allies to contribute more to mutual defense, are actually reasonable. But his bullyboy tactics have boomeranged. Where are his vaunted marketing skills when they are needed most?

Netanyahu rejects Trump-backed Gaza plan for Hamas disarmament, Israeli withdrawal — The Washington Post

“Israel does not accept the 15-point document,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. The U.S. president had touted the Board of Peace plan as a step toward a lasting settlement.

Many of Trump’s goals, from ending Iran’s nuclear program to getting allies to contribute more to mutual defense, are actually reasonable.

The WP is sometimes iffy on Trump. That's two goals, only one of which is reasonable.
Why have a redunant goal in the first place.

I didn't report her. Don't know who did but it certainly wasn't me as I would never do that.

I wasn't accusing you just pointing out that someone reported them for making a personal attack. Despite pretty much everyone but me says they don't do that.

Twiglets1 · 24/08/2026 17:59

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 15:16

It's as pp said. MNHQ monitoring the thread. No need for a report.

That's bullshit. MN are transparent about the fact they can only assess posts if people report them.

They aren't like traffic wardens browsing areas people are likely to offend.

Which pp said that? No one said MNHQ monitor threads unless they are reported.

While we're waiting ...

Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani has met with Israeli intelligence officials in Jordan, according to Syrian state media, as the two sides work to de-escalate tensions following an Israeli attack on a Syrian airbase near the Turkish border.

Syria’s Sana news agency, citing a diplomatic source, said the talks were mediated by the United States and involved a “high-level Israeli delegation”.

The AFP news agency reported that al-Shaibani met the head of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, Roman Gofman.

According to Sana, the discussions “focused on establishing practical mechanisms to halt Israeli attacks, arrests and targeting operations” as well as “reviving negotiations for a lasting security agreement between the two sides”.

They also discussed efforts to ease tensions between Israel and Turkiye and to prevent their rivalry from spilling onto Syrian territory, Sana reported.

JadeHare · 24/08/2026 18:30

Going to watch channel 4 news. As well as read updates.

TopPocketFind · 24/08/2026 18:30

I doesn't sound like China and Russia will face any sanctions for aiding Iran.

Details are not really forthcoming, spoken to world leaders but won't say which ones.

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 18:34

Invoked the spirit of WW2.
America is no longer managing the Iranian threat. We are ending it.

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 18:43

Trump is making phone calls to world leaders with specific requests to cease their interactions with the regime. ..

Those who stand with the US will reap the rewards of our partnership.

The US expects action....every country has a defined timeline to tack action.

Will they acquiesce? What rewards?

TopPocketFind · 24/08/2026 18:49

The US is also waging a trade war with Canada, guess they are off the rewards list?

He also questioned Carney's motivation in the questions.

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 18:59

The questioning is good. When asked about the 'timelines', he then said they aren't setting timelines but they don't have infinite patience.

What???

TopPocketFind · 24/08/2026 18:59

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 18:54

He also questioned Carney's motivation in the questions.

Ofcourse he did.

He didn't give any details on the Iran plans, or did I miss them?

Not an iota of detail.

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 19:03

When questioned about what sanctions against China, we got the vague "no one is above this".

trumpredcard · 24/08/2026 19:12

Who are the 60 entities are that the US is targetting? There must be a list at Treasury. eta
Tech, gold, aviation, and shipping to be sanctioned.
