Conflict in the Middle East

Trump threatens to 'massively blow up' major Iranian gas field

Twiglets1 · 19/03/2026 06:48

Donald Trump has just issued a long Truth Social post about an Israeli attack on the South Pars gas field in Iran on Wednesday night.

In retaliation for that strike, Iran attacked Qatar's Ras Laffan - an industrial area that contains the world's biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing facility.

In his strongly-worded post, Trump says the US "knew nothing" of Israel's strike, and threatens an escalation if Iran attacks Qatar again.

"Out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East", Israel "violently lashed out", Trump writes.

He goes on: "The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen."

But Iran didn't know this, Trump writes, and that its retaliatory attacks on Qatar's Ras Laffan were made "unjustifiably and unfairly".

Trump writes - in capitals - that Israel will not attack Iran's South Pars gas field again, "unless Iran unwisely decides to attack" another innocent nation, which in this case was Qatar.

It Iran does strike Qatar again, Trump threatens that the US will "will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before".

He adds that he doesn't want to authorise "this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications" for Iran, "but if Qatar's LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so."

Good, I'm glad he's dead.
May I suggest that it's the perfect epitaph for Trump himself?

Are you in the U.K. with dc? Why are you so sure Iran wouldn’t use the weapons? They’d go for here too if they did.

Also apparently Yemen via the Houthis, Lebanon via Hezbollah, Iraq, Syria & Afghan insurgency brought to you by the IRGC. I wonder if they will help the Taliban against Pakistan's current activities. It was after Iran lobbed some missiles into Pakistan in 2024 that Pakistan and Saudi brokered their mutual defence pact.
Maybe the disparate groups in Iran will listen to reason from the big boys in China. Apparently the Uyghurs are all hunky dory so that's a relief.

Posts on Mumsnet are educational.

Thank you Quantum.

That's enough MN for me today ... that comment about the Uyghurs was too much.

Because of the arguments already made that no one answers because, apparently, this forum works on "gotcha!" logic and not materialist reasoning and historical relevance. The fact that my post above was deleted shows that this place is some facade of debate in a supposed free speech environment, because I've had this very discussion plenty of other places that predate Mumsnet by quite some years and never had a mod delete it because of their fee fees being hurt.

By all means keep cowering over the Iran threat none of you cared about until February when this all kicked off. Just like how everyone became virologists overnight when COVID hit the news cycle. Having to explain why Iran has beef with the West is tiresome, so please do keep believing this is the plot to the late great Chuck Norris movie Delta Force where all Muslims are caricature evil cartoon villains wanting to kill the West because they dress sexily and have freedom or whatever. I'm sure the US losing the Middle East and the petrodollar being disbanded won't have any impact on the Islamophobia I see in this thread which goes unquestioned.

Bye.

No answer then as to why you’re so sure Iran wouldn’t use nuclear weapons if they had them … noted.

We will assume you’re not in a country Iran has pledged to destroy & don’t care what happens to them.

To me the aggression of the regime is scary - it is out of control with them now attacking their own citizens & their neighbours in the Middle East.

It isn’t to do with them being Muslim by the way, it’s to do with them being extremists.

This thread is worse off with the loss of @Duckopolis. Open and fair debate requires ALL sides to be present, otherwise it's just an echo chamber.

So Trump, the stable genius, the 'street smart' leader, is now threatening a war crime if Iran doesn't open the SoH...when Iran is in talks over maritime security and has said that the SoH is open, except to its enemies.

This article explains how people around the world have been affected by Israel and US going to war against Iran. Let's hope 401s, pension plans and investment portfolios have time to recover before they are needed. Prayers for the families who have lost loved ones and are those suffering daily as a direct result of this shameless war.

Yes I’d prefer more reassurance than a kind of flounce and assumptions.

The G7 countries listed below have explicitly outlined their position. I doubt any country not on that list thinks Iran should get the weapons. No one rose wants MAD.

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2026 08:20

Ah, we’re at the stage that any questioning of the war provokes the ‘you must want Iran to have nuclear capacity’ answer.

The US & Israel bombed Fordow last year and buried the uranium. The US own security reports confirmed they weren’t building a weapon. Iran was negotiating and those negotiations should have been seen through - ideally led by someone better equipped than Witkoff.

It was a war of choice.
Now it’s a war of necessity because it’s going to screw with the world’s economy.

Is this to a particular post?

It doesn’t reflect what people are saying which is G7 countries have explicitly stated the risk.

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2026 08:24

The G7 asked for the war? Or did they want a negotiated settlement?

Agree regarding Duckopolis, it was refreshing to read such well informed posts covering the historical and geopolitical realities.

The whole World will be plunged into darkness if Trump commits his latest war crime. Iran will respond in kind and destroy the GCC infrastructure.

It's an act of desperation, counter value targeting is the response of someone who is unable to respond with force.

We're all going to be poorer.

EasternStandard · 22/03/2026 08:30

The posts are focusing on the threat of Iran having nuclear weapons, which I’d say all other countries agree on but some have explicitly stated a position on.

If everyone agrees with that then it’s a start.

What is done, people can put forward options including the G7.

This it to the pp on their question.

Re the poster leaving, their decision, if an mnhq deletion prompts it well up to them.

Can you explain why that should lead to a deletion? I'm not for a minute suggesting there wasn't a genocide of the Uyghur population in China but there are posters constantly denying persecution of people such as Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, denying they're being ethnically cleansed and starved. I think this is the issue the poster was referring to.

Why not respond to their denial with evidence as many other posters have had to do with other denials.

It's not for me to explain MN deletions (even if I could) though the tone of that post was extremely unpleasant and also contained a personal attack.

Sometimes it gets wearisome to keep responding to people who you wouldn't engage with outside MN. Others times it feels fine, depends on mood.

People always have the option to report posts they feel break site rules and then it's up to MN. I notice one of mine got deleted yesterday too so we all experience that, who post a lot on controversial topics like war.
