Conflict in the Middle East

Trumps senior counter terrorism officer resigns due to the war with Iran and has said they only went to war because of Israeli pressure, not because of any imminent threat from Iran.

If that is really the case will this not be very damning for Trump? How will he respond to this?

If anyone cares, the Iranian uranium is used in the form of a viciously toxic and reactive gas, uranium hexafluoride, and will be stored in maybe 30-50 six feet tall cylinders. It must never come into contact with air.

If anyone was imagining metal bars on a shelf, like gold at the Bank of England, it’s not that.

What happens if the facility where its held is bombed? Or all the scientists who deal with it are killed?

ThreeDeafMice · 18/03/2026 01:58

If the canisters are (slightly) damaged and the UF6 is released, it will react with the moisture in the air to release hydrofluoric acid gas and powdered uranyl fluoride or uranyl trioxide. They will probably coat everything in the same room or area, and make cleanup a really really challenging task.

if the canisters are hit with an explosion then the uranium will probably coat the entire blast area (as a mixture of various oxides).

As far as I can tell UF6 is stable in sealed steel canisters (designed for the task) and will be fine left alone more or less indefinitely at room temperature.

Im not a specialist in uranium chemistry but I understand that the biggest danger is the toxicity to the human body: breathing any amount of any kind of uranium containing dust like you’d get after a slow or catastrophic leak of UF6 would be very dangerous.

I don’t think there’s much danger of a nuclear criticality incident.

it would be more technical staff than scientists who would handle it, but I presume that’s who you mean.

ThreeDeafMice · 18/03/2026 02:10

It’s just occurred to me that the uranium is actually highly enriched, to 60% U235. That means it may need storing in a more dispersed form. I’m curious how they manage the radiological risks. Lots of smaller tanks, maybe.

Yeah, there's nothing honourable going on here. It's a split between the captured by Israel neocons who are still loitering around and the racist, anti-semitic, white nationalist loons as they square up to fight for the hearts and souls of the MAGAs.

Both sides can go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned.

Does it not disturb anyone that the “captured by Israel” meme is basically the Protocols, rewritten for the 21st century?

I’m curious: what is the difference between that, and that pesky Jewish octopus manipulating the dumb Americans to carry out its dastardly plan to enslave the world (mu ha ha ha)?

How are they going to 'finish off the nuke side'?

And are there actually any nukes? All too similar to the invasion of Iraq, when it transpired that Saddam Hussein didn't have weapons of mass destruction. I have no time for Starmer but at least in this situation he has had the sense not to be a lap dog to the US. Unlike war criminal Blair....

The suspicious thing is that the guy was supported by Carlson Tucker, who is apparently a fan of the extreme far right. That has me wondering what’s going on there.

Kent has links to white supremists and said Trump won the 2020 election… he wouldn’t normally be considered a credible person by those now rushing to believe his current words because that suits their agenda.

Realitycheck1 · 18/03/2026 06:28

Also as part of their working without a head strategyy they have different areas for all their arsenal.

KatiePricesKnickers · 18/03/2026 06:28

@Flomingho ”and are there actually any nukes?”
No, because if they had one, they’d have already fired it at Tel Aviv.

Realitycheck1 · 18/03/2026 06:28

Enriched uranium at different sites

That happens but also on weapons if people are waiting for them to have nuclear ready to use then it’s probably too late to do much about it.

And for Israel’s sake, it needs to stay this way.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 18/03/2026 07:10

Trump and his team will start a smear campaign against him soon, “he lost his mind” “ he was a threat to national security” “he was an Iranian spy” there’s no end to the lies Trump is willing to tell.
Or he might get randomly shot by a college student. 🤐 corruption at its finest.

Not just Israel. If the weapons were used it’s likely others would retaliate and we’d all be in dire straits. It’s pretty existential that they don’t.

Suggesting that we shouldn’t discuss Israel’s influence over America because “it’s antisemitic” to do so probably isn’t going to work anymore. No country and no country’s foreign policy should be above criticism.

Kent's "profile" is not looking any good already. But, yet, he was good enough to run the counter terrorism centre just yesterday....
It is clear there is a deep division between Trump and the US intel and security councils. How deep is to be seen. And how it will affect him with his voters.

No issue with people discussing the influence of Israel on America's foreign policy. They are very strong allies.

What is antisemitic is repeating the same old lies about Israel being all powerful and Jews apparently running the world - able to make a poodle out of Trump apparently.

No - Trump does what he wants to do - more than any US president in history.

As someone who has diametrically opposed opinions to you, I can assure you, I don't consider him a remotely credible person. One could say equally, that he would normally be beloved by those now rushing to revile him because that suits their current agenda.

Its clear that as long as you're prepared to toady up to Trump and toe the line on his various lies you'll be considered for any position regardless of whether or not you're qualified. See also Kash Patel.

It's awful to see the disruption already bought by Trump and he's not even halfway through term. Let's hope those saying MAGA is finished are right- imo Trump is the most dangerous man in the world.

No, it's nothing to do with jews controlling the world or drinking blood or running Hollywood or Soros. It's about Trump and Bibi essentially being criminals willing to do anything to cling to power and stay out of prison. One is smart, one is stupid. You choose.

MAGA will move to Vance (who has been remarkably quiet of late). He'll sell them the same America First line.

Doubt there are many on these threads who would ever find him "beloved". He holds some seriously shady views and not many of us on here are fans of Trump, which Kent very much used to be.
