Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

I think Iranians will only believe he's still alive if they see him. How I'd love a Ceaucescu moment when he appeared, started a speech and looked perplexed when the boos started.

That would be brilliant 😊

Yes, but it was just a post, and fuxake, wasn't looking for sympathy....🙄and am sorry that you are in middle of this, genuinely. Hope you are safe.
However , the Iran situation has been going on for 47 years. I am old enough to remember the hostage situation in the US embassy. I don't have the answers but if anyone thinks these air strikes are going to solve a situation that has been going in for almost half a century and solve the problem for the people of Iran, its naive . Yes , I know YOU didn't actually say that.
The intervention and war in Afghanistan went so well for the citizens.🫤

I'm also old enough to remember the Iranian Embassy siege. Nevertheless the ordinary people of Iran have been protesting against the mullahs for some time and now at last they are being helped to overthrow the regime. A regime which is known to provide money, weapons and succour to terrorists.

RichardOnslowRoper · 28/02/2026 14:42

So Reza Shah Pahlavi then, do we think? At least as interim leader.

38thparallel · 28/02/2026 14:42

@Notonthestairs thank you for that interesting article. It contains a lot of prevaricating - ‘this might happen’ or ‘that could happen’, ‘hmm…not sure if things will change’, ‘hopefully things will improve’, plus of course for balance quoting a supporter of the Maduro’s regime.
It’s early days and I’m glad there is a slow but steady release of political prisoners.
I will be interested to see what is happening in 6 months time.

Whatever Trump decides to do, certain people will march for the opposite it seems.

TBH, I am suspicious, and scornful, of a lot of what Trump says and does. He’s an erratic fool.

But forced change to the Iranian regime is long overdue, whoever’s in the White House. Because of both Iran’s external terrorism and proxy-led slaughter, and its internal brutality and oppression. Obama has admitted regret that he didn’t do enough for Iranian dissenters when he was in office.

It may be Trump in charge for this attack on Iran, but that doesn’t matter. It’s more than justified.

Never underestimate the ignorance though, @Bringemout . I argued on here with someone who maintained that the Israelis were as Islamophobic as Iran, that Israel is a dictatorship, and that they ruled Gaza since 1948.
Oh, and one who didn't believe that there are Israeli Arabs.

So much ignorance 😡😥

Yet these are the people on marches, waving the banners and writing "Free Palestine" everywhere.
Interesting how it was deployed in the Manchester by election as well.

Yes, it beggars belief.

Much of it funded by Iran I imagine. Are the loons out marching in London in support of the Islamic regime yet?

A few weeks ago I saw Iranians on twitter sharing messages that the regime line would be that Israel is attacking schools and children, there were videos of basjis moving equipment into schools etc. not sure how reliable that is, but it’s very hamasy so….

As to those in the west who are objecting to this, most of them are disgusting little tankies who subscribe to a third worldist ideology. They literally don’t care about the consequences for anyone living under any of these dictatorships, they can just pretend that the regimes are “anti-imperialist”. The idea of thinking that Iran and Russia are anti-imperialist is utterly laughable. These people are either misinformed, stupid or literally immoral.

Hoping for freedom and safety for the Iranian people and good on the Israelis for being happy to take the hit to get this shit done.

I’ve seen these posts too.
On another thread, someone posted that human rights organisations are reporting that the Iranian regime is holding onto the bodies of killed civilians, including children.
The claim is that in the event of an Israeli or U.S. attack, they would place these bodies around bombed sites to blame Israel/ the U.S. for the deaths.

Oh it wouldn't surprise me. Those Palestine marches were every weekend at one point?

Twiglets1 · 28/02/2026 15:00

The Times of Israel:

Israel “assesses” that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was likely killed in an Israeli strike earlier today, Channel 12 says, citing unnamed Israeli sources. It says there are “growing indications” to this effect.

For anyone that doesn't know, the Times of Israel are normally a reliable source though they do point out that there is no official confirmation of the report.

Heavily funded and professionally organised

Keir Starmer said in a televised statement that British planes “are in the sky today” in the Middle East as part of defensive operations. The flights were ordered to “protect our people, our interests and our values”.

Sir Keir ordered Iran to “end this now” and “refrain from further strikes”.

That's them told 🙄

What’s with his planes in the sky nonsense.

It's to do with the RAF’s joint squadron with Qatar which has successfully shot down missiles targeting Qatar, according to reports.

Starmer has gathered a lot of kudos and admiration for his steely, determined, selfless efforts to bring about justice and peace in the Middle East, beginning with his clarion call for the return of the sausages.

I agree. He isn't very relevant in this context and shouldn't pretend he is, in my opinion because it's just embarrasing.
