Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

I'm also old enough to remember the Iranian Embassy siege. Nevertheless the ordinary people of Iran have been protesting against the mullahs for some time and now at last they are being helped to overthrow the regime. A regime which is known to provide money, weapons and succour to terrorists.

So Reza Shah Pahlavi then, do we think? At least as interim leader.

@Notonthestairs thank you for that interesting article. It contains a lot of prevaricating - ‘this might happen’ or ‘that could happen’, ‘hmm…not sure if things will change’, ‘hopefully things will improve’, plus of course for balance quoting a supporter of the Maduro’s regime.
It’s early days and I’m glad there is a slow but steady release of political prisoners.
I will be interested to see what is happening in 6 months time.

TBH, I am suspicious, and scornful, of a lot of what Trump says and does. He’s an erratic fool.

But forced change to the Iranian regime is long overdue, whoever’s in the White House. Because of both Iran’s external terrorism and proxy-led slaughter, and its internal brutality and oppression. Obama has admitted regret that he didn’t do enough for Iranian dissenters when he was in office.

It may be Trump in charge for this attack on Iran, but that doesn’t matter. It’s more than justified.

A few weeks ago I saw Iranians on twitter sharing messages that the regime line would be that Israel is attacking schools and children, there were videos of basjis moving equipment into schools etc.

I’ve seen these posts too.
On another thread, someone posted that human rights organisations are reporting that the Iranian regime is holding onto the bodies of killed civilians, including children.
The claim is that in the event of an Israeli or U.S. attack, they would place these bodies around bombed sites to blame Israel/ the U.S. for the deaths.

Oh it wouldn't surprise me. Those Palestine marches were every weekend at one point?

Israel “assesses” that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was likely killed in an Israeli strike earlier today, Channel 12 says, citing unnamed Israeli sources. It says there are “growing indications” to this effect.

For anyone that doesn't know, the Times of Israel are normally a reliable source though they do point out that there is no official confirmation of the report.

Keir Starmer said in a televised statement that British planes “are in the sky today” in the Middle East as part of defensive operations. The flights were ordered to “protect our people, our interests and our values”.

Sir Keir ordered Iran to “end this now” and “refrain from further strikes”.

It's to do with the RAF’s joint squadron with Qatar which has successfully shot down missiles targeting Qatar, according to reports.

Yes, it's hardly "nonsense".

Starmer has gathered a lot of kudos and admiration for his steely, determined, selfless efforts to bring about justice and peace in the Middle East, beginning with his clarion call for the return of the sausages.

I agree. He isn't very relevant in this context and shouldn't pretend he is, in my opinion because it's just embarrasing.
