Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

I think some ME countries might. The Shia / Sunni split might become more obvious to see. I recall that Jordan deployed its armed forces to help Israel within the last couple of years.

I also believe that many of these nations just want peace and for their people to thrive. This includes Israel (though many seem to think that it bares ill-intent towards its neighbours. It really doesn’t- it just wants security.)

Being physically located close to a nation like Iran has been problematic for the whole region. The demise of the regime could allow so much peace, goodwill, trade and prosperity. I so hope this aspiration is realised.

Iran and Isreal are over a thousand miles apart. They are not close to each other.

Shows you they aren't wanting the regime to continue.... seems only random westerners want it to continue as is.

Indeed. I always find it bizarre when people with the privilege of living in a liberal democracy would defend a homophobic, antisemitic, misogynist fascist regime.

I will never understand the left for this reason

They’re within missile range so close enough.

dancingredshoes · 28/02/2026 13:30

@peanutbuttertoastytotally agree with this. I’ve listened to LBC all morning…. Everyone who has called from Iran is really pro these attacks…! All the left wingers from the UK, who aren’t Iranian are against them!

Bizarre isn't it. You'd think they'd be behind the repressed people but sone just anti west even if the people cheer on attacks on the regime.

Jordan and other middle-east countries have issued statements against the regime too. Still the idiots in the west cannot help themselves. Odd.

My daughter in Australia and her boyfriend who work for corporate travel company have had to go to work to sort out VIP travellers as their flights are cancelled...🙄. It's after midnight there. Lovely Saturday night for them. Luckily they were having a quiet evening at home. Their emergency line is jammed.

@Twiglets1

to be fair to everyone, it depends on what media you read and who you follow. If you follow military news then you would have seen the Americans ordered another carrier back to the region that’s actually desperate for repairs and crew have had tour extended recently plus planes had been moved from the uk after we said the Americans Weren’t going to be allowed to use our bases. But none of this was in mainstream news, it was on military commentary sites that appear on my Google feed. What was surprising is that it was today being a Saturday, I’d have suspected tomorrow myself

Guess Iran didn't expect Israeli air strikes on Shabbat.

BrinkWomanship · 28/02/2026 13:37

We’d all like to be ‘all kumbaya’ but realism does have to come into play at some point. Striking now could help facilitate a greater peace later. Putting one’s fingers in one’s ears, singing ‘peace is great/no war’ is, in my view, naive to the extreme.

I think - for some - whatever the USA and Israel do, they'll support the opposite. Like the poor Iranian protester at one of those marches who was attacked for his sign saying "Hamas is terrorist".
They just couldn't handle that, so attacked him.

They are in terms of ammunition. Perhaps you forgot that Iran's missiles flew over Israeli territory during the war last June?

Absolutely this. People will go on about it being about oil/ distraction from the Epstein files/ Trump’s ego, completely disregarding what the Iranian people have been going through.

I suspect it's a lovely time ATM for people living in Iran and Israel currently.
I really don't have too much sympathy for your daughter in Australia while my cousins in Israel have to stay in their safe rooms (something that Iranians don't have).

HepzibahGreen · 28/02/2026 13:51

RE Putin and Russia- there is going to be regime fall in Iran, sooner or later. If it’s later there would be a LOT more civilian bloodshed.
Either way, Putin would be very interested in what happens next.
I keep hearing people say America should keep out, but if they did Russia wouldn’t (imo)
As for Israel, the Islamic Regime funds Hamas so they have good reason to join this military attack.
I hope they blow the Mullahs straight to Hell, not gonna lie.

I can’t have much sympathy for this whilst my house is actually shaking from missile attacks. Of course anyone caught up in these countries is scared, VIP or not. Isn’t this the kind of thing a travel company is supposed to support you in, if an emergency occurs?

HepzibahGreen · 28/02/2026 13:52

I really need to do the shopping but cant seem to get off the damn internet!

I believe that’s an unverified Iranian news agency report. The BBC has covered it too, along with the Iranian claim that Israel “targeted” the school with 3 missiles. Which sounds highly unlikely. I wouldn’t trust anything that the Iranian state says.

Yes, imagine him witnessing support for Hamas, openly, on the streets of London.

Yes, I think the BBC hadn't verified that.
