US and Israel strike Iran. (title edited by MNHQ at request of the OP)

Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

Agree with this. Many choose to ignore the fact that the Iranian leadership is a direct threat to other countries, not just its own people (of which it’s killed about 30,000 in the last 2 months, which our media has barely reported). It funds terrorism around the world, wants nuclear arms (which it intends to use) and the destruction of Israel, America, the west, all Jews, all Christians.

Trump’s focus is about his country’s defence and growth. His interest is in basic security and resources. He had an opportunity to contribute to the toppling of a dangerous, threatening regime and he took it. I applaud his and Israel’s decisiveness. Their actions will make us all safer on the long term, though I recognise it might not seem like that in the short term.

Great post, agree.
I also don't agree with others that Trump is playing to his base. I doubt this will be popular. Its a bold decision with the mid-terms on the horizon.

@BrinkWomanship good points, I think many people don't understand what's happening in Iran, it rarely hits the headlines with the scale of human rights abuses.

Indeed.

Successful military campaigns are one of the most sure fire ways to political victory. History is replete with them. Everyone likes success and most react positively to perceived strong leadership. As long as he is successful with minimal US losses, it will go down a storm at home. Oh, and then he’ll be looking to change the law and run for a third term.

I have a good friend who is Iranian and she is desperate for the regime to fall.

Yes, I know Iranians who escaped that regime in the early 1980s and they too are praying for the regime to fall.

Ihatetomatoes · 28/02/2026 10:41

Nyungnyung · 28/02/2026 10:35

Same here - she keeps telling me that Iranians are the bravest people and desperate for the regime to fall

Thanks for sharing.

Ordinary Iranians need assistance to topple the regime. They appear largely ignored though.

I found the book Persepolis a fascinating read - based on the authors experiences of the revolution in the 70s. A very quick read too as it’s in graphic novel format.

Looks interesting, thank you for the recommendation!

yes of course it was coordinated from the start. The US have been flying in planes, men and materiel for weeks since the protests. The whole thing was greenlighted back then - they’ve just been building up the necessary forces to make it a decisive victory. The whole world knew it was coming (except OP). It was just a question of when.

Edited

That's rather rude to say the whole world knew it was coming except OP. Of course in hindsight everyone knew it was coming.

I have very much suspected it was coming for a few weeks now but no one knew for sure when/if it was coming or how the attack would look.

I was the OP who started a different thread on this board back in January about the US moving a warship to the ME & then updated it regularly including the information that the US had dispatched more than one third of its navy towards Iran. If you read the thread it's not right to say everyone saw it coming but me.

@Twiglets1

to be fair to everyone, it depends on what media you read and who you follow. If you follow military news then you would have seen the Americans ordered another carrier back to the region that’s actually desperate for repairs and crew have had tour extended recently plus planes had been moved from the uk after we said the Americans Weren’t going to be allowed to use our bases. But none of this was in mainstream news, it was on military commentary sites that appear on my Google feed. What was surprising is that it was today being a Saturday, I’d have suspected tomorrow myself

Daylight for the first wave....that's IMO the biggest surprise (maybe that was the point.)

Saudi has issued a statement in response to the missile attacks on the Gulf countries and Jordan:

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the treacherous Iranian aggression and the blatant violation of the sovereignty of each of the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, affirming its full solidarity and standing by the side of the sister states, and placing all its capabilities at their disposal to support them in all measures they take, and warning of the grave consequences of the continued violation of the sovereignty of states and the principles of international law."

I don't think many people expected it quite this soon or on a Saturday but still ... Trump is famous for being unpredictable.

I agree. I’ve been listening to updates from Mayhar Tousi regularly over the last couple of months and was becoming increasingly clear that an attack was likely.

This frightens me.
due to family interests in the past I know that KSA has a fierce armoury behind it.
I can’t see the sense of Iran hitting Saudi.
this is where the escalation starts 😢

I am also going to be interested in Starmer's take on this. We have seen the Muslim vote vanish from Labour in a recent bye election so is he going to be willing to concede that vote is now gone by backing the US verbally?

I think the pro pallys may be getting their anti imperialist war signs out of the cupboard this weekend......

I think Starmer has miscalculated this badly.

He didn't support the US probably because he was worried about losing the by-election, but he lost the Muslim vote anyway and now he's pissed off Trump as well.
