US and Israel strike Iran. (title edited by MNHQ at request of the OP)

Twiglets1 · 28/02/2026 06:46

Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

I agree although I suspect somebody else will start a convo on AIBU soon.

No doubt.

BerthaPotts · 28/02/2026 09:16

Why has the OP called it a 'pre-emptive' strike? Talk about bias right there.

Technically, militarily, politically it was a pre-emptive strike...

Personally I don't think use of the term is indicative of bias.

Ihatetomatoes · 28/02/2026 09:20

Agree.

One that puts its people first rather than supporting numerous terrorist groups in the middle east.

I hope the regime falls.

Yes, they've certainly exported terror ( plus used it on their own people)

As I said on another thread in this:
This isn’t (just) about oil. Along with Venezuela, this is mostly about Trump and his ego. He wants to build the ultimate legacy and be the President that does the things that no other President could or would dare. He genuinely wants that Nobel Peace Prize and will do it by taking down one anti western regime at a time using the might of the US Military while claiming throughout that no one has done more to bring about world peace than he has. Each success plays hugely well to his base at home and reinforces his America first doctrine and the resurgence of America renewed manifest destiny as the no1 global power.

TheBlueKoala · 28/02/2026 09:26

Well who would have guessed since the US foreign secretary advised all non emergency staff to immediately leave Israël yesterday. They basically told them to get on a flight to anywhere- just get out of the country.

Notmyreality · 28/02/2026 09:29

Twiglets1 · 28/02/2026 08:41

Yes I believe it was co-ordinated from the start.

I've asked for MN to change the title of the thread because the way it was reported at first in the media did not reflect that it was the joint strike it has turned out to be.

yes of course it was coordinated from the start. The US have been flying in planes, men and materiel for weeks since the protests. The whole thing was greenlighted back then - they’ve just been building up the necessary forces to make it a decisive victory. The whole world knew it was coming (except OP). It was just a question of when.

peanutbuttertoasty · 28/02/2026 09:30

I support this and wish them success. The regime and its men are absolutely evil.

So why hasn't he been more aggressive in dealing with Russia? Iran has nuclear just as Russia does but he seems to be too afraid to be proactive with the former. If it was the Nobel prize he was looking for surely it would be Russia he would target first.

Iran is ruled by men who think a woman's role is to be a slave, all gays must be executed, anyone Jewish must be killed, anyone atheist or Christian must be eliminated from earth etc etc.

Me too. I just wish someone could take out Putin as well. Pure evil. A narcissist just like Trump but he's in a country allowing him to get away with more evil.

Are you seriously suggesting that Trump bombs Russia? Do you really want WW3 to begin in earnest? We'd all be involved not just countries far away from us.

Exactly. So many brave Iranians are making a stand against this horrific regime, and paying with their lives.

Iran doesn't have "nuclear just as Russia does".

They have yet to demonstrate tje ability to actually make a single fissile device, let alone demonstrate the ability to deliver the same to the US mainland.

OTOH the assumption is Russia still has multiple hundred if not thousands of viable devices (warheads) and the ability to deliver them to the US (ICBMs, Long Range Bomber Force, Submarine launched missiles).

Iran doesn't have an arsenal of nuclear weapons, whereas Russia does. If the US launches an attack on Russia then we can expect the maximum retaliation - probably on us first in Europe as we're closer! That would be a crazy action on Trump's part, I doubt there would be many survivors to award a prize after that.

Why do you think they are attacking Iran (while knowing full well that it puts Israeli lives at risk of retaliation)?

Erm because:

  1. Russia doesn’t threaten the US. The war in Ukraine is irrelevant to the US and Trump and his supporters consider it a Europe problem
  2. Trump admires much of Putin leadership style. Strong man putting his country first. Trump wants to emulate.
  3. It would start global nuclear war

Despite appearances and MN consensus, Trump isn’t actually stupid. He knows exactly what he doing and what to target and what to stay well away from.

Putin can't take Ukraine for years. Do you really think he could do something for Europe/Nato? The only one thing he would be capable- few bombs for Eastern Europe, that's it.

In a sense, yes.

Iran is governed by theocrats who politically are a mixture of far left and far right.

The regime is totally unstable and unreliable. The motivation behind ensuring women there must be veiled is the same motivation to get nuclear weapons to obliterate Israel and the USA.

Agree with this. Many choose to ignore the fact that the Iranian leadership is a direct threat to other countries, not just its own people (of which it’s killed about 30,000 in the last 2 months, which our media has barely reported). It funds terrorism around the world, wants nuclear arms (which it intends to use) and the destruction of Israel, America, the west, all Jews, all Christians.

Trump’s focus is about his country’s defence and growth. His interest is in basic security and resources. He had an opportunity to contribute to the toppling of a dangerous, threatening regime and he took it. I applaud his and Israel’s decisiveness. Their actions will make us all safer on the long term, though I recognise it might not seem like that in the short term.

OrangeAxolotyl · 28/02/2026 09:57

@BrinkWomanship good points, I think many people don't understand what's happening in Iran, it rarely hits the headlines with the scale of human rights abuses.

Many conveniently ignore the threat Iran is. Indeed thousands of slaughtered mainly young Iranian people who were protesting raised small sympathy.
