App to boycott Israeli goods

1000 replies

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

Yes, of course, people have a choice. But why ALL the focus on Israel when there are equally appalling genocides happening all over the world? Why is it only Israel that is blamed and has people protesting and targeting Jews?

Because this one is being facilitated by the UK.
Our military aids it, our factories make weapon parts, our politicians financially benefit to it, and pushing our government to stop and to sanction Israel might actually help.

Because Britain created the problem in the first place with the Balfour declaration.

If you feel that your energies are best used raising awareness or trying to do something about the atrocities in Congo or Sudan, or helping with homelessness on the streets of your own city then do it! We need many people doing many things.

But to chide those trying to do one thing for not doing everything else is, frankly, ridiculous.

Ah yes Russia the country that retaliated to the slaughter of hundreds of innocent people and the abduction, rape and torture of more?

Oh no hang on I'm mistaken! Russia the country who invaded another unprovoked? It's no wonder they had sanctions imposed now is it?

If gazan civilians are innocent then so are Israelis. Some of you need to be a bit more consistent in your views.

Russia, the country that used radioactive poison and nerve agents against dissidents on foreign soil, that Russia? Where critics of the regime are buying up bungalows and staying away from high windows.
The country overseeing the worst nuclear accident in Europe that still makes part of Ukraine unliveable, but now threatens to bomb another nuclear plant in the same country.
Remember the good old days when people were just shipped to Siberian gulags.

Since when does someone not buying your sweets compare to having your legs blown off?

Since when did the retaliation to the slaughter and abduction of innocents compare to the unprovoked invasion of another country as putin did. Yet here we are.

Gloriia · 17/09/2025 12:05

Any of the app users looked into who they are actually boycotting yet, whether only Jewish Isrealis or all, including Arabic isrealis?

Yes.

Obviously I haven't gone through them all, but the companies I have clicked on have not just been Israeli but had additional things that made them objectionable - ie coca cola running dairy farms in settlements, dominos giving free food to the IDF.

Perhaps if you give me a list of major international companies owned and run by Arab Israelis, I can have a look on there.

Note, it goes into detail about each company. They are major international companies. It's not Mrs Blogs who runs a craft business on Etsy that's being targeted here, but multinationals.

Actions on foreign soil! do you really want to explore actions on foreign soil in relation to Israel?

Ooh let's compare. Novichok, Polonium. I think dioxin was used on Yushchenko. Very tidy. And of course Ukrainian annexation and invasion, the accidental drone attacks in Poland, cutting undersea communication from Scandinavia to the rest of europe, bringing Europe to the brink of ww3, which apparently is a discussion point in the republic wrt neutrality. Finland et Al have had national service and nuclear bunkers for some time, that was an eye opener, they're a bit twitchy about the exercises on their border.

Israel..there was the Munich terrorist in Tunisia, Iranian nuclear sites, hezbollah (apparently an Iranian official had one of their pagers), houthis and hamas.
At home they have the iron dome and bomb shelters for every home ( with design tweaks since 7/10). Who are the warmongers and what's their motivation? Protecting a way of life, or imposing one?

You do know Mossad pioneered the use of nuclear material in assassination’s. Colonel José Alberto Albano do Amarante, in August 1981 in Brasil?

Could you explain why mossad would assassinate a Brazilian nuclear scientist?

Do you think Israel is entitled to kill whoever wherever it wants? Are courts and law redundant?

Looking at the Wikipedia entry for Israeli Government assassinations (so many that it's grouped by decade) it would appear that Israeli leaders do believe they have the right to engage in extrajudicial killings.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone would stop trying to kill each other?

What I think....., is that Israel has been under attack by Iranian funded Islamists since the return of the ayatollah from his exile in France which has internally displaced thousands of people, makes everyone in the region unsafe and perpetually reignites divisions and conflict, and that Russia (& China for different reasons) facilitate it to keep 'the west' distracted. That most Arab states have made peace with Israel's existence and want to move forward and stabilise the region.

I wonder why there is not an internet campaign or great march of return to Pakistan and Bangladesh of the millions of descendants displaced during partition when those countries were formed contemporaneously with Israel. I wonder what is different about the middle east and Israel amongst all world conflicts that draws people's ire.

Are you suggesting Palestinians should just get over their own genocide, what is your point?

I said, wouldn't it be nice if everyone stopped trying to kill each other in answer to your question.
What kind of person would disagree with that?

I'm so surprised at the reactions on this thread. Anyone can choose where to spend their money. I for one don't want to support businesses complicit in any genocide.

Boycott and divestment was important in putting pressure on apartheid South Africa. Without peaceful means of resistance you push people to take on more extreme and violent actions.

Israel is an apartheid state and conflating of Israel with all Jews is probably one of the most antisemitic things you can do in my opinion.

Just looked at the No Thanks list and it's got everyone on there. All the usual big companies.
Just starting at 'A':
Asda, Amazon, Apple, Aviva, Axa, Adidas, Alpro, Actimel, Asics, Audi, Ariel, Always, Aveeno,

Then there's Naked juice, Barclays Bank, Paramount, Samsung, Nestle, Cadburys icecream, Waitrose, Purina cat food, Calvin Klein, Oasis drinks, Sanex, Maybeline, Danone, Papa John pizza, Quavers, Haribo, Legal & General, Cup-a-soup, Texaco, sodastream, Ikea, Coca Cola, Catsan, Canesten, Mars, Maltesers, Daim, Galaxy, Mattel, Barbie, Marmite, Facebook, Nivea, Colmans mustard, Colgate, Fanta, Fairy, Vaseline, Maynard Bassets, Hyundai, TicTacs, McDonalds, Pretamanger, Paypal, Google, Dreamies, Evian, Oral B, Walkers crisps, L'oreal, Whiskas . . . . it goes on and on.

I bought half those products in my shopping today! Car insurance, pension . . .

I'll give it a go though. This will probably be deleted so copy and paste . . .

What?! But Quavers are made by Walkers so you'd think all Walkers crisps would be verboten if it's a company thing? A quick google says they are banned for Muslims as they have alcohol in them apparently, I wonder if he's getting his banned products mixed up?

I agree. It’s disturbing to see just how angry this is making some posters. Well I’m sure there were plenty of people shouting abuse at those that chose to boycott in South Africa too.

I choose where I spend my money, and it will not be going into the hands of any companies that support the Israeli government where I can help it.

To the posters trying the app for the first time: it can be overwhelming but you will find alternatives to pretty much every company you use and everything you buy.
